I like three of Jo's story's. I didn't like The Jealousy Man but really like the last story about drivers. What interested me was the snakes which really was a turn around. Each of the stories kept my interest except for the Jealousy Man. Maybe I was not motivated enough or distracted by it, it was good reading never-the-less. I like reading either a whole story but not short stories where I can stop reading after a story. I didn't read this in one sitting, it maybe why I like some of the stories and not the others.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Jealousy Man and Other Stories.
I'm a big fan of Jo Nesbo and his Harry Hole series so I was really excited when my request was approved. I'm not a big fan of short stories unless the author is a fave of mine.
I really liked the theme of jealousy playing a part in all the stories and I enjoyed some of them.
They weren't as twisty or suspenseful as I liked but it's hard to maintain that level of drama when a story is short; some were predictable but still worth a read.
I always enjoy the author's writing and I like knowing some of the characters in the stories will not meet a happy end.
If you're a fan of the author, give this a try.
These aren't my favorite stories of his but I'm glad I was given the opportunity to read The Jealousy Man and Other Stories.
Thank you to Knopf DoubleDay Publishing and to the author for this advanced copy of The Jealousy Man and Other Stories in exchange for an honest review.
I have enjoyed Jo Nesbo's work in the past, The Snowman is one of my favorites. However, this compilation of short stories did not really do it for me sadly. The first story was absolutely fantastic, but then it just sort of fizzled out from there. If I am being honest I DNF this book because some of the stories I found to be anti climatic and confusing. The format on my Kindle was also a bit rough because it was hard to tell when one story ended and another began.
I would love to see the first story developed into a longer novel, I think it would be so exciting. Other than that this was a disappointing one for me. I will not give up on Nesbo, we don't always like every single book written by a cherished author.
I’m typically a huge Nesbo fan, but with the exception of the first story which I enjoyed these all lack sufficient intrigue and punch and to really appeal
This is a collection of short stories by author Jo Nesbo with the common theme of jealousy. There were a few stories that were very good and I would have liked them to have made decent novels but generally this book dragged. The book was in excess of 500 pages and it seemed to go on forever. I normally reads large bite size chunks of books but with this one I found myself dipping in and out between other novels. I do enjoy thee Harry Hole series and the authors writing style but I found this one hard going.
The book starts well and the first short story was addictive but many of the other stories were predictable, repetitive and too short to get absorbed.
I would like to thank both Net Galley and Knopf for supplying a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you #netgalley for letting me review this early. I am a huge fan of this author and will read anything by him but this collection of stories was meh. I loved the first story but the others were just ok to me. Not my favorite.
I am a massive fan of Jo Nesbo but these stories did not live up to his usual high standard. The underlying theme of jealousy was present but I was quite happy when the book ended. Just did not grab me like his work usually does. Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
