The Revenge of Moriarty follows The Return of Moriarty and is a reissue of a mid-1970s publication. John Gardner was no Ian Fleming but he wrote a capable series of James Bond novels. He's no Arthur Conan Doyle but he doesn't need be since Sherlock Holmes barely appears in a novel that is devoted his most celebrated nemesis. Moriarty engages in clever schemes to take revenge on a list of people. The plot loses steam when he shifts his attention to Sherlock, but the book has some clever moments.
