This is a really Cute Children's book, and I read this book to my twin boys. My boys loved this book so much, and they laugh a lot while I was reading this book to them. I really loved the pictures in this book. I think this book is great for kids pre-k to k or before they school. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Flashlight Press) or author (Amanda Noll) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
having trouble viewing this one- whenever I try to open it it crashes the software. Will review if I can get it to work.
Definitely a different type of bedtime story! I love all of the other types of monster series books and this one is no different. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the text is really engaging for kids!
I loved this alternative alphabet book! The author was very creative with the word(s) associated with each letter. I thought the illustrations were fantastic; the colors were vibrant and entertaining and the monsters were terrific!
This book would have been a favorite in our house when my daughter was young.
This is certainly a different kind of bedtime story! Not for a parent who is easily grossed out. I thought it was very cool and a great book to read leading up to Halloween. I can see a child reading this story over and over and over again. Great graphics that really make each monster come alive. Love how each monster squeezes under his bed. No worries about monsters staying there. This is one book that may help kids overcome their nighttime fears.
I don’t usually review board books, but this time I just can’t help myself. In my house, some of our favorite books are I Need My Monster and Hey, That’s My Monster. We read them all the time, complete with silly voices. So when I saw that there was a new book, I couldn’t wait to read it. Unlike the other books in there series, D Is for Drool by Amanda Knoll isn’t story based. Instead, it’s a concept book—an ABC book to be specific, but it’s one of the more enjoyable ones I’ve seen in a while. Unlike most concept books these days, which feel loaded down with teaching a heavier lesson, this one is just good fun, with each letter dedicated to a monster body part (or parts!) In truth, what I loved most about this books as seeing old friends, from the raspy-voiced Cynthia to our favorite teacher, Mr. Zee. And, of course, Ethan is back along with his favorite monster, Gabe!
This is a great ABC book for little ones, or honestly any kid who loves monsters!
My granddaughter loves stories, songs, TV shows and movies about monsters. When we saw this book, she asked if I would read it to her before she went to bed. Well, I read it a few hours before bed, just in case. D is for Drool is an alphabet book starring monsters. When Ethan can’t sleep, he doesn’t count sheep – he says his ABCs, but they are not your ordinary ABCs. Each letter is not for a type of monster, some are for monster attributes like arms, drool, quills, ooze and more. Howard McWilliam’s illustrations are wonderful. They are fun, colourful, and full of monsters and their stuff. She absolutely loved this book and asked me to read it to her a few more times when she was over. I also read this to my youngest grandson and he enjoyed it as well. They laughed as we read it again and this time we read it before bed. I definitely recommend this one to families and classrooms. There is some great vocabulary in this one.
D is for Drool is another book in the My Monster series. This is a very cute monster/alphabet book. Each letter describes a different monster or a feature on that monster. This is a very different alphabet book, that children are really going to enjoy! I would highly recommend this!
I love alphabet books and bedtime stories, and this book is both. I wish I’d learned the alphabet this way. There’s no boring A is for Apples in this book; A is for Arms, enough that you will need to use all of your fingers to count them.
I would have giggled my way through this book as a kid and would have had fun calling out what each letter is for. The monsters aren’t scary at all; they’re actually quite adorable. Howard McWilliam’s illustrations pop with colour and all of the monsters are expressive.
I enjoyed the continuity throughout the book. When you turn the page you get to see the tail end of the monster from the page before. Oftentimes you’ll see snow or ooze on subsequent pages from the more messy monsters.
I loved the baby Jaws making a snow angel but my favourite monster was the one with green pigtails and pink tutu.
Howard McWilliam’s alphabet is amazing. Not only does each letter match the colour scheme of each letter’s monster, many of their attributes are also represented.
I would love to see a special edition of this book that includes an alphabet wall border. It needs to be on my wall.
I definitely need to get my hands on the I Need My Monster series.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Flashlight Press for the opportunity to read this picture book.
First let me begin by saying how absolutely adorable and imaginative the illustrations in this book are. I love them! The monsters are not scary but so innovative and animated that kids will love each and every one of them.
When Ethan is unable to sleep he recites his ABCs. He doesn't count sheep but monsters. Each letter is attributed to the appearance and action of a monster: A is for Arms, B is for Belly, C is for Claws, and D is for Drool! Kids will love this book and all the others in the award-winning series "I Need A Monster." This book a pure delight from A to ZZzzzzz when Ethan finally falls asleep. The book is playful, creative and a very fun read. I highly recommend this book!
Oh what a cute read that was. Thank you to #NetGalley & #Flashlight Press for an advanced reader's copy of #DisforDrool by Amanda Noll; Shari Dash Greenspan in exchange for a genuine review.
Halloween is fast approaching so I feel like this is very fitting. My son enjoyed this book and it's a good ABC book. The illustrations were all so colorful and it was pretty engaging for my 5 year old. I requested for this book because of the cover and title - both very interesting and my son drools a lot. He laughed when I showed this book to him. Will definitely read this to him again.
This book has a very cute premise with saying the alphabet while trying to fall asleep. Each letter is corresponding to an attribute of cute/friendly looking monsters and the book ends with Zzzs. I loved the vibrant illustrations and found the book very cute in general.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Flashlight Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I am not familiar with this series, but the title caught my eye. I absolutely loved this book. It is colorful and fun to read, even younger children who don't speak English. I read and made up stories to my Marshallese friends children. The colors and illustrations drew them in. The monsters were fantastic and adorable. This one is a keeper. 5 stars
This is a great ABC book especially for Halloween coming up. The monsters are cute without being too scary.
I read this with my daughter and it would have been great for her a year or so ago when learning her letters. Even now, it kept her interest because each monster was unique and being a bit silly. A good book for new readers as well.
The highlights were the monsters all trying to hide under the bed and the very long Zzzzz at the end that can be followed along a couple pages.
The illustrations are nice and colorful and draw kids in to really find fun design details.
5 stars for cute colorful monsters that are the right amount of spooky!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a free copy of this book for my honest review.
Part of the My Monster series of picture books. Saying your ABCs is a good way to fall asleep. This set of ABCs is all about monsters. Not just their drool but their googly eyes, pointy tails and claws. Colorful, fun illustrations throughout.
My first experience of this series is actually a very well done alphabet primer, with all the letters of the alphabet – well, most of them, but that would be telling – shown using a parade of monsters, all crossing the bedroom floor of the kid from the franchise's four previous books. If they're like this one they're really well made, for this is excellently drawn – full-on oddball monsters, almost in a kind of Flanimals photorealist fashion. There's humour, there's great character creation and design, there's the letters to be learnt or revised, and there's – well, I said earlier that that would be telling. From fans of the series this would be rated 'priceless', and even from me it's a strong four stars.
Such a fun addition to this series! It was great to see some of the monsters already known from previous books as well as new ones. I loved that O was for ooze, and laughed at X for "eXhausted ". A great addition to a little one's library!
I love how colourful and bright the pictures are in D for drool. It really helps with the story and keeps you interested in each page. I think it’s good idea to have the alphabet at the beginning and end of the book . It’s really colourful and I like how they have the big alphabet snd the little alphabet at the side. The story goes through the alphabet and has words for each letter. I think this will definitely help young children to learn the alphabet and I lovely book to read with there parents. Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book
