What a great cookbook! I loved all the recipes. and the ones I've made so far have been hits with my family.
Country Kitchen Cookbook is filled with traditional American recipes from hamburgers to apple pie. So many delicious homestyle recipes.
ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I grew up in a rural area with strong ties to the way food was done in the country. I learned about the recipes passed down from mothers to daughters and shared with good friends. Looking at the recipes in this book brought back the memories of sitting down to eat meals made from scratch.
All of the recipes are easy to follow. Anything special you will need is listed so you aren’t caught off guard. They may take longer than some might like, but the results are well worth it. The recipes are accompanied with colorful pictures that let you see what the meal will look like in the end.
I was able to find recipes that I didn’t have growing up, and I’m planning to make some of them as soon as I can. This book would be a great resource for anyone that likes to cook.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This was a great cookbook and I really enjoyed reading through the recipes. I definitely found some that I will be making.
Some of these recipes I have never heard of. They look really good and easy. I will have to try some soon!
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* really love the recipes in this book! i will be buying at least one copy tho i know a few people whod love this as a gift too!
4☆ A Scrumptious Collection
Firstly I want to say I wouldn't advise reading this book on an empty tummy...not only are the recipes mouth-watering, but the photographs accompanied with the recipes make them all the more tempting!
There are so many wholesome delights in this book there's something for all tastes.
The book is broken down into the following chapters:
Homestyle Breakfasts, Irresistible Snacks and Starters, Scrumptious Salads and Sides, Hearty Main Dishes, Country Desserts and Cakes ( my favourite chapter 😏)
All the ingredients are in Cups which is pretty frustrating as I'm in the UK and our cups are just not the same... but I'm not going to be put off by it as the recipes are yummy!
It would of been a nice added touch to of included a conversion chart.
Oh and some of the ingredients are different in the UK so just be mindful of that before you head out to buy your ingredients.
There are far too many recipes to list them all but the blurb does give you a tiny taste as to what's inside.
Overall I would most definitely recommend this Scrumptious Cookbook. I'm a huge lover of cookbooks and have a vast collection, this one would make a great addition
Country Kitchen Cookbook: A Collection of Traditional American Home-Cooked Recipes by Jennifer Boudinot is full of recipes for anyone who is a fan of bacon, cheese, buttermilk, savory casseroles, the sweetest pies, or anything deep fried. With a flexi-bind format that stays open while you cook, Country Kitchen Cookbook provides Perfect for hanging around at home or inviting guests for a late, light supper, there is a recipe for everything. Recipes include Strawberry Shortcake, Loaded Baked Potato Soup, Apple-Smothered Pork Chops, Beef Stew with Dumplings, Country Corn Fritters, Collard Greens and Bacon, Hush Puppies, Home-Fried Sausage Casserole, Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and more!
Country Kitchen Cookbook is well organized and full of southern inspired comfort food recipes and corresponding photographs. The recipes are divided by themes and are easy to navigate. This is not a collection for those that are trying to eat healthy or have dietary restrictions. However, for those that are looking to master some favorite comfort food recipes or to treat yourself (and/or others) to a down home meal this will hit all the notes you need. As someone that does not often indulge in this style of cooking, this would be a book I would gladly check out from the library in order to master a few recipes for special occasions or days that I just fill the need to treat myself or my friends and family to something special. I think this would be a great addition to most public libraries fr that very reason. Those that tend to cook this style of food more often, or want to learn how, just might want to add it to their personal collection
Country Kitchen Cookbook is a great collection of recipes for those looking to serve up some comfort food.
This cookbook has some great additions to any professional or amateur chef's kitchen! The photography is great quality and makes you get excited for the mouthwatering recipes. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Chartwell Books for a copy of this book for an honest review.
4 stars! This book is chock-full of delicious country-style recipes and photography that will make your mouth water. The recipes are very easy, perfect for a home chef of any skill level, and the ingredients should all be very simple to source. My only caveat is that nothing about these recipes is low-cal, low-fat, or low-anything, but everyone needs a treat sometimes, right? I might have mentioned in another cookbook review that I have been trying to eat a bit more healthily lately, but I’m still looking forward to the Apple-Smothered Pork Chops and the Chocolate Chip Pancakes that just might be happening here very soon… Don’t even get me started on that desserts section, ha ha.
I'm grateful to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Chartwell Books, for the opportunity to read and review The Country Kitchen Cookbook.
I am not a huge fan of how this cookbook is set up - there are a lot of unnecessary graphics throughout each recipe. It is VERY Southern which isn't bad but I would say you need to like those flavors. I tried the Fried Okra and it was good, I didn't fry in a skillet as I have a tabletop fryer at home but I liked the batter on the recipe. There is no table on contents in the front to distinguish between the different categories and no break between each section of the book so it is kinda a mess to refer back to stuff.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. There are so many recipes in this book that just make my mouth water. The Honey Chicken sounds amazing. I think the Key Lime Pie recipes sounds delicious. It me the feeling of home cooking and that makes me sitting around the table with my family growing up. This brings back memories of when I decide I wanted to take up cooking and pulling out my mother's cookbooks. The pictures add to the experience and make me want to try more of the recipes.
There is something comforting about eating simple, unassuming country cooking, and Jennifer Boudinot has introduced dozens of down home comfort foods from all regions of America in her excellent cookbook, Country Kitchen Cookbook: A Collection of Traditional American Home-Cooked Recipes. Although it’s fun to savor a gourmet recipe once in a while, most of us are happiest when eating something simple or traditional. These are recipes that will appeal to everyone in the family, but they are good enough that they can also be served to company.
The recipes are written in a succinct, easy-to-follow format, making it possible for all cooks, beginning to advanced, to create picture perfect dishes that everyone will love. The fact that there is a beautiful photograph of every recipe is very appealing and makes this cookbook a cut above. The variety of recipes is great, and almost everyone will find themselves cooking from this book often, and most will have a queue of “must try” recipes that will keep them busy for months. Most of the recipes call for basic ingredients that most of us have around on our pantry shelves or fridge or freezer. Otherwise, they can be found at any regular grocery store.
Although the recipes represent “country” cooking from all regions of the US, there seems to be an emphasis on southern style recipes, some traditional and some a bit different.
This is a fun cookbook to curl up in a corner and read – it will make you hungry, though - and the vignettes and recipe notes are interesting. For those who like simple delicious meals, this is a cookbook that will be used over and over.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
A ton of these recipes sound outstanding and I have saved a bunch for my fat kid dining days. However the actual construction of this book really is frustrating. I think a good beta read will fix all of the issues and then it will be outstanding!
Down home comfort food at it’s finest! This invoked feelings of coziness and Sunday family dinners. I enjoyed it! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
If you enjoy comfort food from the South, then Country Kitchen Cookbook is the right one for you. This one was full of great recipes for so many different comfort foods from snacks to desserts. This cookbook definitely isn't for those who are on a diet but if you are looking for comfort food, then this book is just perfect.
Unfortunately I didn't get much joy out of this one as the download on the Netfalley Shelf app was distorted and annoying.
Pity as I love a good cookbook.
This book is perfect for me! In fact I have already ordered a physical copy from my favorite bookseller.
Can't wait to share this with my other country living crew. Highly recommend. Great recipes and great photographs.
The Country Kitchen Cookbook is exactly what you would expect- a book full of classic comfort food. It is nice to have a collection of comfort foods all in one place for easy access, but I didn't really see anything new here. I liked that there were pictures with every recipe, but the general layout of the book was a little messy for me.
If you are from the South, you have recipe cards from your granny covered in flour and grease spots. This book is the equivalent of these cards. I could almost smell granny frying chicken as I was reading these recipes. All the recipes are easy to follow and well written. You’ll want to run into the kitchen immediately.
