With a tories about daily life in the Caribbean, the book tells of all kinds of people. Seemingly very different people but finding connections. It was a bit too slow paced for me and I didn’t feel I really got to know the characters.
*** Huge thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

Enjoyed this book of short stories set in the daily life of Jamaica and the other islands in the Caribbean. The dialect wasn't too hard to understand and the stories really captured both the universal human needs and conditions and the specific social situations faced by Island residents. My favorite story was Alvin's Ilk, where a boy comes finds unexpected commonality with a neighbor that seems very different and tries to decide whether he's a "good boy" or a "bad boy" (and tries to decide what those terms really mean).

I enjoyed some of the stories in this collection more than others. I always like learning about different places and cultures, so I appreciated the stories where the culture came through. Other stories didn't really connect for me, and as a whole this collection didn't leave a lasting impression. Unfortunately, at times I also struggled to understand this audiobook. Between the unfamiliar words and the Jamaican accent, I think I missed some things despite choosing a slower playback speed than usual.

A collection of short stories set in Jamaica, innocence and rawness of everyday life. Narrated in a beautiful Jamaican patois, sounds very authentic and almost a personal account. School, church, parish, growing up, culture, correctness, manners and even a bit of scandal all interlinked throughout the book. Easy to listen to, thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
