Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
This is a delightful book of poems for children. It will be a lovely introduction to poetry for young students.
A sweet collection of A.A. Milne's poetry (of Winnie the Pooh fame) complemented by Rosemary Wells illustrations. As always, Wells' illustrations delight and capture the whimsical nature of the poems. Her animals and beloved, and the setting of London a fun addition for parents reading to their small children.
Ages 18 months to 6 years old.
Charmimg rhymes from the author of Winnie the Pooh with beautiful new illustrations. Would definitely recommend!
Cute book! The drawings are colorful and fun, the poems are memorable. Great poems to memorize and revisit!
It is a perfect combination! Poems are by AA Milne and the illustrations are by Rosemary Wells of (justifiable) Max and Ruby fame. The verses are lighthearted and very much enhanced by the artwork and commentary of Miss Wells. At the back of the book is a list of vocabulary words that Ms. Wells calls old-fashioned words.
This looks like a terrific book for young children. They will enjoy the rhythm of the poems and the lively illustrations.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Thank you for the advance copy of this precious book!
I love introducing my children to all types of writing, so we loved this collection of poems. The illustrations were adorable as well!
These beloved poems were first published in 1924 by A. A. Milne. He is the originator of Winnie-the-Pooh which is also a classic. His collection of poems are the most familiar and treasured works in children's literature. He created the poems for his three-year-old son, Christopher Robin, and thousands of children have read or sung these poems over the years.
Infamous author and illustrator Rosemary Wells has worked her imagination and magic to create up-dated illustrations that marry with these timeless poems beautifully. She is noted for her Max and Ruby series and Mother Goose illustrations that the modern-day child will be familiar with.
This book is a gem and lovely to share with a new generation. Both young and old will appreciate its delightful charm. I highly recommend it.
This short collection of A.A. Milne poems definitely shows it's age. At the end of the book there is a glossary of old-fashioned terms used throughout that children most likely won't know, especially American children. One thing that helped modernize this collection is Rosemary Wells' illustrations. Wells didn't just illustrate what the poems said but also added side stories and commentaries. You can spend just as much time reading the poems by Milne as you do the art and text of Wells. I think this collection is best suited to older adults who want to relive childhood and perhaps share a bit of it with the children in their lives.
a cute collection of poems with illustrations for kids. Obviously for a British audience, but found it darling here across the pond too. Would recommend.
Here's the review I gave on Goodreads: The book was very adorable and incredibly rhyming, but I felt as if the illustrations in the book were outdated.
After thought, I think it's an adorable book but I would not read it again, unless I had children or grandkids to show it to.
