I really wanted to do a hand fasting ceremony for our vow renewal. I purchased a physical copy to have on hand and take notes from. I like how she incorporated not only information on the ceremony but also the history of how it came about. Definitely would recommend.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.
I never really knew the history of handfasting or how it cam to be. This researches the history and countries that made handfasting what it is.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This book talks about the history of handfasting and what goes into this type of ceremony. Its origins comes from the British Isles. There is a lot of steps to go about performing a handfasting. It breaks it down into steps. One being that you have to find a Celebrant. Which is the person who would be performing that actually handfasting. The book goes into great detail on where handfastings are legal or recognized as a binding contracted. There are some locations that don't recognized them with legal status. I enjoyed reading this and getting all the facts and details. I have read about them in books of fiction or seen them in shows or movies. It was nice to have a better understanding of what actually takes places and how to go about having one.
Requested this book since I was interested in incorporating a handfasting ceremony in my wedding. Beautiful book with lots of information about the history and origins of handfasting and how to incorporate in within your modern day ceremony.
A decent book of things to consider when doing a handfasting, a few practices represented (is slightly British focused, but does have Canada and US info). It is a decent book overall
This is a well put together resource especially for someone who didn't know much about Handfasting. I liked the sample vows and the tools and ritual objects you will need.
I enjoyed the chapters on the different deities of love and marriage chapter I like that it gives so many options. Also the chapter on flowers was well researched.
I can see this as a great resource to share with your officiant if they aren't as familiar with handfasting.
This is a very good compressive guide that would work great if you are planning a handfasting or officiating one!
I received this book from the publisher Llewelyn and NetGalley for a fair and honest review
As an ordained minister who has performed several matrimonial ceremonies, I was happy to spend some time learning about handfasting. It is important to me to make each ceremony unique to the couple I am joining together in marriage and this book provided the material I needed for couples seeking to embrace a pagan rooted ceremony.
Modern Handfasting provides sample vows and rituals, troubleshoots unexpected problems and talks of incorporating love magic into the ceremony. How beautiful is that? The author also includes tips and stories from others, helping to leave the reader with a broad understanding of the handfasting tradition.
I wish I had a guide like this when my husband and I got married. This is a great starting point for creating your ceremony and the different things that can be incorporated. I would have liked to add some elements to our ceremony that I saw in this book. It is very informative and also gives you a full ceremony layout if you need it!
I believe this is a very useful book for anyone planning a handfasting. While it does supply a lot of correspondances and a few sample ceremonies, spells, and rituals it mainly focuses on giving you the information you need in order to make this day (or days) special and unique for you and your partner. The reader is reminded that the beauty of a handfasting versus a traditional wedding is that there is very little that cannot be customized or improvised. There are also sections which address how you might wish to prepare for a handfasting spiritually as well as how to make sure you've planned to respond to some of the more common disruptions and disasters. Overall, the author writes with a very light-hearted and flexible attitude and breaks things down into pieces which removes a lot of the stress one can feel when trying to plan a large event.
I'm getting married soon and this book was something I was searching for and not finding. I needed something where when I say I wanted a handfasting what I was actually referring to. It is very important that I have a historical understanding of what it represents to make sure it's something that resonates with me and my partner. Synchronicity brought me to this book, but I hope it finds many others who are interested in handfasting as well. Well written and packs a lot of useful information.
