I’ve loved @ellecosimano ‘s books for years, so I was thrilled when she had so much success with Finlay Donovan is killing it last year. I read it in December 2020, and I was dying—maybe I shouldn’t use that word when it comes to this series—to read the next book. Book 1 ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead is every bit as fun as the first book. Finlay and Vero get into a ton of crazy shenanigans—maybe even more this time. The themes of the importance of female friendships are strengthened, but we’ve still got a love triangle with the hot young bartender soon-to-be-lawyer Julian and the more age appropriate, but no less hot cop Nick (I’m pretty squarely team Nick this time around, but I remember being team Julian in the last book; the mark of any good love triangle). I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one and loved being back in the world of these characters. In the author’s note, Cosimano says she was writing during Covid and struggled with the comedy during a time when things were so bleak. I wish I could say that time was history, but I’m so glad she persevered because we need books that make us laugh like this one more than ever.
Is this book over the top? Yes. Yes it is. Is everything Finlay and Vero do believable? Not even close. But it’s not supposed to be. This book is ridiculous in the best way and for full enjoyment I suggest surrendering to the ride. The end was a surprise even though I’d had a vague thought in the beginning that I brushed aside, and we’re left with another cliffhanger that has me hankering for book 3.

I really enjoyed reading the #1st book in series, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It, and I was super thrilled to listen to the second book.
I liked the second book even better than the first as it was full of mystery, wittiness and charm. It is the sequel in its true sense as it refers to many incidences from the first book, but it’s easy to understand even if you haven’t read the first one.
Angela Dawe has done a marvelous job narrating the story. I enjoyed her pitch and voice while listening to the book. Calling out to all of Elle’s fans to check out this book when it releases on Feb 1, 2022.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the #gifted audiobook in exchange of my honest review!
I just finished Finlay Donovan Knocks Em Dead and I had to tell you all about it tonight so you can take advantage of the 25% off preorder at @barnesandnoble and preorder it before it releases on Tuesday! (The preorder discount ends tomorrow).
This book was so much fun! Finlay and Vero are an awesome pair! Honestly, I actually liked this one better than the first book! There were some twists and turns I definitely didn’t anticipate and I loved the end- it perfectly sets up book 3!
I’ve seen some people compare Finlay Donovan is Killing It to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich- which you all know I LOVE and I didn’t really agree about it in book one but I definitely do see the similarities in book 2- and really, yes, they’re there in book 1 too- I guess I just don’t find the FD books quite as funny as the Stephanie Plum series. But they’re both great series and I love them both!
But I digress. If you liked the first book I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s a fun mystery that isn’t scary but full of outrageous situations!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for my free advanced copy
Once again Elle Cosimano delivers with a fun, escapist adventure that kept me turning the pages. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this one as much as the first. There's just nothing quite like it out there and I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series. I hope Finlay has many more adventures to come!
Finlay Donovan steals my heart yet again with her antics in this stellar follow-up.
MV Rating: 10/10 I never want this series to end.
•Finlay & Vero are back, and trying to figure out who is trying to kill her ex Stephen (cue Kristin Cavallari’s “Stephennnn” from Laguna Beach).
•Right off the back, hijinx ensue, and Finn and Vero are fighting time to beat the killer to his mark. Throw in a dead body, the Russian Mob, and a hot cop, and you’ve got a party!
•There is such a fun and empowering female friendship and independence angle to these stories, and I love it - Finn doesn’t need a hero, she’s got it all under control…. Or at least she’s trying! Love that there’s still romance in here for Finn too, but it’s not the main focus of her life - I think that’s a very empowering message too.
• Can they save Steven, figure out who set him up without incriminating themselves, AND meet her newest book deadline? You’ll have to read to find out.
I’m thoroughly obsessed with Elle Cosimano, and Finlay Donovan. Thank you so much to Netgalley & Minotaur books for the advanced copy!
Finlay Donovan is back! And once again, she is finding herself in all kinds of difficult situations. In this second book in the series, Finlay discovers that someone is out to kill her ex-husband.
Of course, Finlay and her devoted nanny, Vero, set out to find who wants Steven dead. During all of this investigating, Finlay’s agent is breathing down her neck to meet her next book deadline. After a few more dead bodies, some shootouts and car chases, Finlay manages to discover who is involved and get her book written.
Readers will get to know some new characters and learn more about the ones from the first book. Some foreshadowing hints at more adventures ahead for Finlay. Her career is looking up and so is her romantic life.
This was a fun adventure and I’m sure readers will be anxiously awaiting the third book in the series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read an advance copy. I am happy to recommend this book and give my honest review.
If nothing else this book was funny! I am on team Finlay Donovan forever. She is a single mother, an author, a jane of all trades, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a lover, and she is figuring her shit out one day at a time. There were so many realistic moments about mom life that I found myself totally relating to Finlay's struggles. I was also totally in awe of her general badassery and her Veronica Mars level of investigative prowess. This story was fun and twisty and it had shootouts, mayhem, a hot lawyer, sexy detective, and so much else.
I highly recommend this one!
Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead by Elle Cosimano is book 2 in the Finlay Donovan series. I read the first book in this series and absolutely loved it. This book-- I could not imagine how the sequel could match up to the first book in the series. But this book absolutely lived up to the first. I sincerely hope there is a third book. I have heard criticism about this book, that the reader could not get into it because the hijinks Finlay gets into are unbelievable. I completely disagree with this. In fact, I think the author does a brilliant job making the implausible seem plausible. It is remarkable, really, and it makes for a really unique book. I adored this book and can't wait to see more like it from the author. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Cosimano is a successful American author of many YA books. This is her second release in the adult mystery series featuring the character of Finlay Donovan. The first in the series was "Finlay Donovan Is Killing It". Finlay is a single mother of two young children and a struggling author. She relies heavily on her live in nanny and friend Vero and together the two of them end up in crazy and dangerous situations. In this book, Finlay finds out that someone has put a hit on her ex-husband, who while he has many flaws is still the father of her children and she wants him kept alive. Finding out who put out the hit, who took the job and protecting her ex from harm provide the action in this zany story. Romance is provided by Finlay's interest in two men, a law student and a police officer. This is a great recommendation for fans of Janet Evanovich, but I highly recommend readers start with the first in the series. The books are already being made into a television series.
There is something so refreshing about the Finlay Donovan series that is unlike so many other books out there. There is a little suspense but there are so many lighthearted and fun moments scattered throughout that you can't help laughing out loud - even when dealing with hit women, the mob and murder mysteries. I think the combination of Finlay and Vero is one of my favorite in years and despite a far-fetched plot - they make every page enjoyable and you can't help compulsively devouring this book in one sitting.
✨Book Review✨
Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead by Elle Cosimano
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
.
Well, Elle Cosimano does it again. This sequel was just as cute as the first book. How I love Finaly and her crazy schemes. I don't know why these books are so comforting, but they truly are. While they are about murder for hire, they manage to be light, funny, witty, and even a little bit romantic.
.
In this sequel, Finlay and Vero find out that someone has hired a hitman to murder Finlay's ex-husband. Their search for the culprit takes them on some more hysterical adventures. It ends on a cliffhanger, so I hope there is a book three! I'll be first in line to read it if there is.
.
I highly recommend listening to this one on audio. It reads like a movie!
Finlay Donovan Knocks Em Dead is the second book in the series and I am here for however many installments Elle Cosimano wants to write!
We have got all the fun components of the first book, but somehow amplified in the second. Finlay slips deeper and deeper into this secret revenge world, which this time around is hitting even closer to home than before and Vero heads into this mess right alongside her... again. The dynamics between Finlay and Vero are fantastic!
The story is quirky and the writing hysterical.
This is a strong follow up to Finlay Donovan is Killin It. This follow up has the same vibe with quirks and shenanigans that Finlay gets into. Some decisions that Finlay made or things that occurred were pretty out there/stupid, but I think that's what you'd expect from a stressed out mom wrapped up in an insane murder conspiracy. I just love all of these characters. Even the love triangle, which I typically do not enjoy in books, just works so well and I love both love interests. The ending/reveal totally surprised me and also just fit so perfectly with the story! I can't wait to keep following Finlay in all her adventures.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead.
Finlay is back for more in her latest adventure. This time, someone in on a dark web chat has put a hit out on her ex-husband. Finlay suddenly finds herself trying to protect her ex while also trying to figure out and solve who put the hit out and who the hit man is. I found myself smiling throughout the book ..and the ending will surprise you!
I loved the first book in this series, Finlay Donovan is Killing It, so when I found out there was a second book I requested it immediately.
I loved this book! I loved it even more than the first one! Finlay is still charming and witty and goofy and even though I can’t possibly understand how all these problems keep happening to her, I’m here for it! It’s funny without being too over the top. The characters are so well developed and you really feel like you get to know them and you root for them! It was a great escape in the cold month of January but this would also be a great beach read. I love love loved this book and really hope there will be a third one!
Thank you #netgalley and #stmartinspress for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Finlay Donovan needs no introduction. She's smart, funny, and constantly getting herself in trouble! I loved book one, so it's no surprise that I love book 2. Knocks ‘Em Dead ends perfectly with another cliffhanger to book 3!! Woohoo - I can't wait!! 🎉
I listened to the first half of the story. I liked Angela Dawe’s narration, but Finlay and Vero's voices sounded different in my head. So I gravitated towards reading the story vs. listening to the story. Simply a case of it's me, not you.
I finished the book on the plane to Puerto Rico. The lady sitting next to me inquired what I was reading since I was laughing every 20 mins. I told her I highly recommend Finlay Donovan Is Killing It and Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead! The scenarios are a bit far-fetched, but that's precisely what you want when you are on vacation and need an escape!
Another rollercoaster romp with our favorite not-an-assassin and her very out of the box nanny/accountant/sidekick. These two make the most unlikely but perfect crime fighting duo. This really needs to be read after the first book as the foundation for the characters and the action is this book is laid out. Otherwise, a reader is going to get confused pretty quickly. While I still feel like most of what takes place in this second book, like the first book, is preposterous, this makes for a complete mindless fun fluff book. A great cozy to enjoy either cuddled up on the couch or sunning on the beach. I can not wait to see what is in store for this merry band of misfits!
In Finlay Donovation Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano we’re immediately thrust back into her vivid, precarious world. I love the snark and light-hearted tone of this series and found this to be a wonderful sequel. There’s mystery, romance, and the antics you would expect from Finlay Donovan. The story was a little meandering, but I love the tone of these books. The action and characters keep me intrigued as I listen. Angela Dawe is a pitch-perfect narrator for Finlay. The audiobooks for this series are so fun!
Thank you Minotaur Books / Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for providing this ebook / audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead picks up a month after the first book, Finlay Donovan is Killing It. We follow Finlay and her nanny/sidekick/partner-in-crime Vero as they try to sleuth out the identity of the mysterious person that put a hit on Finlay's ex-husband, Steven. Meanwhile, Finlay's love life and day job as an author are still a bit of a mess and Vero is starting to act a bit sketchy about money and her past.
I was SO SURE I had this one figured out halfway through. I was practically smug about it. "Ah, yes, Elle Cosimano had me the first time, but I see through her twists and tricks now!" I'm not ashamed to admit that I was completely wrong in the best way. The reveals had me gasping and laughing out loud and I had a very fun time with this book.
I will say, I think I liked the first installment a smidge better than this one, but if you enjoyed Finlay Donovan is Killing It then you'll definitely still like its sequel. This one has a couple more mysteries to juggle as it wraps up loose ends from the first book and sets up problems for the next book to address, so I don't think we get quite as much room for the comedic and romantic elements that I loved so much about the first one. That said, this is still a fabulous book with very fun characters at the heart of it. I definitely recommend!
🎧 I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I knew going in it’s a bit on the ‘silly’ side but it’s fun. Of course we expect Finley to get herself in precarious and hilarious positions and she doesn’t disappoint! This will keep you entertained the whole way through.
