literally couldn't get it to work for so long. I had to download several things on my laptop, as it didn't come up on my netgalley shelf??????
my only thought is: what did I just read/look through. I just couldn't get into it, I DFN'ed it within the forst 20 pages. while I thought the art was ok at times, the story and plot completely fell through for me. I hated every second of this.
Thank you net galley for the chance to review.
I tried so hard to like this book but it was a complete pile of confusion. A lot of the words were unreadable. Not only that punctuation was terrible!
It doesnt support or open after I download the protected pdf version of it.
It's also not showing in my shelf in netgalley and I cant open it to read
Please look into the issue and if you can send me the pdf in my mail ID- taniagungunsarkar@gmail.com
I cant read the book from here.
Please look into the issue and deliver me the book to review properly, moreover i was pretty excited about this book
The story has potential, but the constant change and jumping from one character to another got me really confused.
Jo came to my attention several years ago when I saw the cover to an issue of Southern Nightgown, but I never actually BOUGHT any of her books till the special expanded edition of Theory of Magic... I've now read ALL her series, and while Theory of Magic is my favorite (and that Sabine Rich artwork!) I've enjoyed all the titles, even the Chrysalis and Kiss ones.
Now, a second Ancient Dreams prose BOOK... wow and it has that wonderful Dawn McTeigue cover!
While I am intrigued by the description and the cover art I was unable to open the graphic novel on any devices and am unable to post a full review.
Unfortunately, I can not post a review since I am unable to open it from my PC and read the graphic novel.
An absolutely beautiful pile of pretentious verbosity I soon gave up trying to get on board with. Consider this turd polished.
JP Roth's 'Ancient Dreams' is a Young Adult fantasy romance graphic novel about Greek Mythology. It follows Cara Wynter, who, from the description 'Cara must face her worst fears, to save the soul of a god she has treasured for centuries, and a love she cannot live without'.
The book itself features 18 year old Cara from Fairhaven Washington who is the daughter of witches as she has prophetic dreams for 13 nights about a long lost love, a battle between gods, death, and monsters. There is sex and violence in this book, so while young adult, it may be better for older readers.
The plot, for me, was hard to describe. It was hard enough I had to copy+paste from the description and write this multiple times to put it into my own words. This may have been a specific stylize choice by the writer, and as such I can understand, but there is no strict narrative plot to speak of. The ending can feel a bit rushed for me, and there were what seemed endless pages of full-page text to attempt to explain or give more insight, however I was still confused.
The reason I am not giving this a lower star is because the art, while not my personal taste, did have much technical skill and talent. The colors were strong, the proportion of the different elements and the flow were pleasant in many scenes. If I may give some criticism, there only seemed to be one or two body types from which the artist drew. I am not speaking of large breast thin waistedness or muscularity we see in comic books, but of the fact there seemed to be a hard time differentiating between characters at points because of it. While I can't expect a book about Greek Mythology to have a large amount of racial diversity, it does take place as well in the modern day. And the one inclusion of a person of color was....not great. I would not read this for any BIPOC/BBA who are triggered by this kind of content. This book is not without its merit or entertainment, but I am would personally not recommend it to anyone.
This seems to be an anthology of some sort? There is no clear story but the art is pretty good.and there is potential
While I did like the idea of basing this story in Greek Mythology, I did find the story a bit confusing and the timelines a little all over the place. It jumped from character to character. Some of it made no sense or at least a little confusing. However I did like the premise of the main character, Cara.
Some of the artwork I found a bit...for the lack of a better word, over the top with the female body but honestly, that's nothing new. The artwork was still beautiful and for the most part the story telling was interesting enough for me to want to continue reading this story. My only hope is that some of the storylines start to connect because some of the chapters just seemed to repeat the same scene just a bit.
Overall, I did like and enjoy it.
I have no way of reading this unfortunately as I usually read on my kindle and the PDF will not open on my laptop at all

I love mythology in all forms. This story combined Greek mythology with new characters that transcended time and space. Some of the text was hard to read, hopefully this can be fixed.
The art and storylines were out of this world. Full of complexity and leaves the reader wanting more.
