I received an ARC of “Home Hydroponics: Small-Space DIY Growing Systems” from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing.
Living on a farm, I’ve utilized a number of different growing methods, including hydroponics, so when I was offered the chance to read Baras’ recent book, I was thrilled. What I really liked about this book is that the author, who once lived in an RV, focused on ridding the clutter that one often finds in hydroponics.
Hydroponics if often used in greenhouses because it can be messy, but many people like myself have used it inside the home. And I’m going to admit it: my set-up is NOT pretty. In fact, I used an old plastic box. Baras provided a number of DIY projects that actually encourages people to *aesthetically* incorporate hydroponic systems inside the home and provides detailed directions and photographs to help people do so. Where was this book when I was setting up my system?
With four (4) sections, an index, appendixes—even metric conversion charts and crop selection charts—any motivated reader will be able to get started in applying hydroponic growing systems to their own home. For those who are already growing hydroponically, I encourage you to pick up this book; the pictures alone are worth it.
Tyler has such an awesome approach to home hydroponics. I was so impressed by the craftsmanship of the planters! This is something my hubby does at home so this is the perfect gift for him. So thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to review this book!
I definitely enjoyed learning about hydroponics. I have not spent much time learning about it. But I really liked how I learned how to use my space to grow more.
This was a great book for me because I don't know the first thing to starting hydroponics in my home. I got a ton out of this and I think lots of people will too.
So thorough and helpful, this guide walks you through several projects from utilitarian to projects I'd happily incorporate into any decor. Amazing.
Home Hydroponics by Tyler Baras is an excellent instruction book for diy hydroponics projects. All projects include full instructions and color photos. There were smaller projects for beginners and more ambitious projects for seasoned gardeners and those with previous hydroponics experience. A nice book to add to the collection for avid gardeners.
Thanks to NetGalley and Cool Springs Press for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
Very detailed step by step guide to build and maintain home hydroponic gardens. Tons of pictures to follow.
Almost everything you need to know about starting (and maintaining) a home hydroponic garden is in this book! The author is very detailed about each step and possible pitfalls. There are all sorts of different setups (from a picture frame to a huge cool coffee table) that include building instructions.
This definitely isn’t a pickup the book and have a garden by tonight book. The book is setting you up to succeed. The author explains each step so you feel confident. One of my favorite features is the fact the author explains in understandable terms. For example, he explains if the plant smells like vegetable soup it means one thing and how to fix it.
I received this book from the publishers via Netgalley for a review. A well written and easy to understand information on building and growing a hydroponic garden, I for one will be giving it a go.
This book has extensive knowledge of how to grow plants in your home including some really well researched technical designs for making a wide array of different ways to grow things. It definitely is a book to take your time and really sink your teeth into before trying.
This book was so helpful for me! As an avid Hydroponic user, I've struggled with my more complicated veggies like tomatoes and beans. I appreciated the detail in how to test and balance my system to achieve better results and am hoping these small tweaks make a big difference in my set ups!
This books provides detailed information on the principals of hydroponics but also instructions on how to build your own hydroponic gardens for the home. Loved that the author provided crop suggestions as well as problems that could affect the crop due to the method used. Off to build a salad bowl garden now. Can't wait to see the results.
