"To want was human, to possess was unnatural."

Quick Synopsis: Tess Matheson and Eliot Birch accidentally unleash the devil from his book-bound prison, when they stumble upon an ancient book in a hidden tunnel underneath the basement of the haunted Jessop Library.

My thoughts: This is a dark YA horror, mystery with a sprinkle of romance in an academia setting. It was creepily good and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The story build up was really good and all the events leading up to their encounters with the devil was so intense and eerie. And of course, when they faced the devil eventually, it was nuts! There are some gore details in this book but not too overwhelming.

Truth be told, I rarely read YA but this book doesn't read like YA at all. It has a more mature writing with great characters development.

I really liked both Tess and Eliot. Tess will do anything for her sister, Natalie. Eliot, seems to be the privileged, snobbish young English man at first, but once you get to know him, you may change your mind. The audiobook narrated by both Suzy Jackson and John Keating was excellent! They added so much personality to the characters. I liked Keating's narration on Eliot character with the posh British accent which was perfect!

In a nutshell, this was a creepy, gripping horror read that will send chills down your spine, especially when reading from the devil's POV. Yeah, that kind of scared the heck out of me. I think readers of Hendrix's books would enjoy this one!

I adored this book!
The plot was creepy and fast paced, and I loved the main characters and their dynamic. Eliot was such a soft sweetheart, I liked that he wasn’t depicted as the stereotypical broody bad boy that we get in so many YA books.
The narration was alright overall, but it took me a little while until I got used to the male narrator.
I definitely recommend reading this!

The Devil Makes Three was a quick read. I was granted the audiobook on Netgalley. I really liked the narrators. The story mostly held my attention. Though, it took almost 20 percent in for anything to happen. With a touch of dark academia and some paranormal devil body snatching action, The Devil Makes Three is perfect for fans of The Ravens, The Dead and the Dark, and The Vampire Diaries.

I kinda know what I hoped.

It is so much more than I hoped.

Other than their inability to fucking just sit down and tell each other what the hell is happening, which causes the pace to slow down a bit in the middle?

OH FOR THE LOVE OF DARK DEMONIC BLOOD INK MAGIC.... it was brilliant.

The mismatch of dry wry wit vs the dark occult happenings was absolutely brilliant.

The male narrator sounded a bit older than the female but chapters were clear with pov).

"He was conceived on the highway, because that was where most accidents happen- Elliot

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ETA:

I stand by everything I said and add....

and oh but the last sentence sent chills up my damnit spine.

ALSO- definitely horror and occult/magic not fantasy if anyone needs more clarification.
