For the sheer fact that the book is about Kamala Harris and it's 2024, I don't plan on reviewing, let alone reading, this book. At this point, I don't have the option to opt out of reviewing the book, so my review is that I didn't read it and don't plan to.
This book was a must-read for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read in exchange for my honest opinion. I found it very interesting - and inspiring - to read stories from Kamala Harris' background as well as her career, and how it relates with being a woman in business today. Would definitely recommend!
Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to read this one because I changed my kindle email address and forgot to update it on Netgalley, so it never arrived to my device. *facepalm* But I love everything Hitha Palepu does and would have loved to read this one.
I have followed Hitha Palapeu for years on instagram and I was overjoyed to find out that her books are just as witty and wonderful as her social media presence!
This book was received as an ARC from Little, Brown and Company - Little, Brown Spark in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
In the historic moment when Kamala Harris was named the first female Vice President, shock and awe roamed the entire country filled with hope. The heritage behind Kamala and what motivated her to join the game of politics and get through the grind and gruel that go with it gets you wondering how does she do it? Hitha Palepu gets up close and personal in Kamala's professional and personal life everything down to her role in the white house to her morning yoga routine and she even included a recipe to Kamala's favorite Tuna Fish Sandwich. Through this book, you'll feel like you know Kamala not only as the Vice President of the United States but, the empowered woman she is away from the white house.
We will consider adding this title to our Self Help collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for reviews.
This book is not only a story about Kamala Harris’ life. It's about the life lessons she takes to fulfill her dreams and passion. Feels like there's some tips about how to fulfill your own life as well as some life lessons.
Inspiring and therapeutic!
This book is so much more than I initially anticipated. I was expecting to learn more about the life and career of my Vice President and Soror, Kamala Harris, but in turn, I finished this book learning more about myself. The way in which author Hitha Palepu intertwines Kamala Harris’ personal life and career with her own and reveals how the reader too can broach similar circumstances is both productive and impactful. This writing style and method gives the reader purpose to remain engaged and leaves a lasting impression because the lessons shared are relatable.
The inclusion of short stories from other women and illustrations brought an additional layer of creativity. This is not your typical memoir. This book will not only educate you on Kamala Harris and Hitha Palepu, but most importantly it will transcend how you see yourself and how you show up, personally and professionally.
3.5 stars Interesting take on an inspirational book for women. The nine chapters each focus on a specific topic, providing biographical info on Kamala Harris, examples from her life and career, and then advice on how to enact that characteristic in your own life. Each chapter also ends with a brief example essay by another person. The book is geared towards women and seems especially applicable to BIPOC women as it addresses some additional challenges they in particular would face.
Good info here but quite heavy on the biography, so if you've already read Ms. Harris's own book or aren't as interested in her background details, there may be parts that drag.
