Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of Camp Mah Tovu!
I don't really know how to rate this book, honestly. It's a cute story of a girl named Lila with ADHD who has trouble connecting with her peers at camp. She befriends a wild horse and goes on a mission to stop the local government from forcibly removing the wild horses from the land near the camp. However, the story is pretty unbelievable, and I feel like the author is a bit out of touch with the world of Jewish summer camps. She tries to incorporate aspects of Judaism in the story, but the Judaism she portrays feels a bit out of sync with how modern the camp seems. This aspect of the story might not be noticeable by the general audience, but I, as a Modern Orthodox Jewish person who has had some contact with the Ultra-Orthodox world, found it to be a bit jarring. I liked the themes of the book and the plot is very sweet, but everything wraps up a bit too neatly for my taste.
