Jenny is still grieving the loss of her husband when she finds out she is pregnant, but the baby is not her husband’s. She had a one-night stand whilst away on a course, but why does she keep having horrendous flash backs to that night.

Her best friend Rhonda is always on hand just when she needs her, but is she hiding something from her?

Samantha Hayes has written an extremely dark psychological thriller whose tangled web of deceit and lies kept me awake at night.

The ending is absolutely outstanding!

Jennifer is the local doctor in the same town she grew up in. She is newly widowed after her husband passed away on a ski trip, that he might have go on with his mistress. Her teenage son is struggling with the death of his father. And to make matter worse the day she returns to work Jennifer finds out she is pregnant and it is not her husbands baby.

This story started out a little slow and I did not like any of the characters. I did not like how Jennifer was portrayed as weak, could not stand up for herself and let people walk all over her but we are supposed to believe that she committed a horrible crime not once but twice.

What I did love was how the story was woven together and how all the characters were linked. What I also loved was the twist at the end. I did not see it coming.

The Trapped Wife is one of my September #HOTBOOKS picks and I am delighted to be able to share my review with you today as part of the blog tour. Samantha Hayes is one of my very favourite authors and for years I have bought and read all of her books as she never lets me down! The Twisted Wife is once again a brilliantly twisty psychological thriller that will have you questioning everything you read but I guarantee you will NOT see where this one is going until you arrive at the shocking revelations it dishes up…

Jen Miller is a GP who has been having a difficult time. Her husband, who she is convinced was having an affair, has recently been reported missing presumed dead in an avalanche on a work trip he was on with the woman she suspected him of sleeping with. She has also had an horrific experience on a work night out where she thinks she was drugged and raped. Her best friend Rhonda is trying to be as supportive as she can but although Jen is trying to keep it together for the sake of their teenage son, she is struggling with her mental health and is now convinced that she is being watched by someone…

If you’ve read books by this author before then you know she is brilliant at pulling the wool over your eyes and here she has once again delivered such a shocking twist that you will need to pick your jaw off the floor! The clues are there as you read but I didn’t link them all together to form the bigger picture so when everything came together it was such a shock! Most of the characters here are unlikeable, complex creations with an unreliable perspective and that helps to create a tension throughout as you never know who is telling the truth…

The Twisted Wife is a brilliant, twisty turny ride and I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend it for lovers of gripping storylines and unsettling twists! LOVED IT!

Too slow for me, the second half is better and there’s a nice twist but I struggled hugely to get to that point. The storyline itself is a strange one- GP Jen’s husband, who she suspected of an affair, dies unexpectedly whilst skiing, a few weeks later she discovers she’s pregnant by some stranger she met in a bar who suddenly turns up and wants to become involved in her life. There’s also quite heavy mention of sexual assault that some will find upsetting. Not for me but happy to give some of the authors other work a go.

A little confusing for me at times but that could just be me. A great read though that kept me guessing and reading by lamplight at night to see what happened next..always a good sign. Not my first Samantha Hayes and certainly not my last. Thank you for the chance to read it 📕📕📕📕

Thank you Bookoutoure and Samantha Hayes for the ARC ebook of The Trapped Wife! This book is about a wife, who’s husband recently died in an avalanche and she finds out she’s pregnant. But as the story begins to unravel and secret after secret come out, it gets so intense! I don’t want to reveal anything that could spoil the story. At first as I was reading I was very vested, then it became a lot of different characters and I didn’t understand how anything fit together or why we were being introduced to them. Then, the clues were so obvious, I had a lot of it figured out right away! It was still a good read, as the story played out with plenty of pulse pounding points! The final twist, I definitely did NOT see coming and was floored!! I will look for more books by Samantha Hayes in the future!

I really enjoyed The Trapped Wife. When I read the description I was intrigued, I wasn't sure where I was expecting the story to go and as I was reading it the twists kept coming so just when I thought I had it figured out something happened and completely blew my theory out the water. It kept me gripped throughout and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

Jen is a GP in the same small town she grew up in. She’s also newly widowed, a mother to a teen son, and currently pregnant. She’s grieving the death of her husband when things start to crash around her.
Who is the mysterious man who claims to know her so well? What is it that she doesn’t remember? Can she ignore the breaking shards of her marriage before her husband died?
How will she survive the pressure mounting on her from all sides?
The cover is fab, and when the title appeared too frequently on my timeline, I went ahead and requested an ARC.
Now, I’m in two minds about it. For starters, don’t focus on the blurb. It’s a roundabout representation of the storyline.
Second, the first half is too slow to sustain interest. This is my second consecutive slow book, and that doesn’t work in its favor (sorry). The second half is a lot better, but the story makes more sense only when you read the author’s note. And no, don’t read it first if you want to enjoy at least half of the book.
Third, the characterization is decent, and I liked how I couldn’t fully trust any of them. However, Rhonda could have had a little more role towards the end. Don’t look for character growth here. The graph goes the other way (it’s a thriller, after all).
Fourth, some of the story seemed too far-fetched, even with the explanation. Any important theme has been dealt with in the book, but it comes at a time when the focus is on revealing the mystery, and that dilutes its impact. I feel a topic like that needs more space, especially since it’s not as uncommon as we want to pretend.
The good news is that a part of the twist was well executed. It makes up for some of the other stuff. The book is pretty much a mix of things, and for me, the result is the same.
To sum up, The Trapped Wife is an intriguing thriller if you are willing to deal with the first half of it with some patience. If not anything else, you’ll at least get to talk about quite a few themes from the book.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the ARC.

The plot is Jen, a doctor with a husband she thinks was having an affair, has an either drunken or drugged one night stand with Scott, a stranger, while at a medical conference. Soon after Jen's husband is lost and presumed dead after being in an avalanche in Switzerland. Shortly after this, Jen discovers she is pregnant with Scott's baby. Scott shows up at her door and insists on moving in and becoming a family. It is obvious that Scott is not a good person. His blackmailing Jen with pictures of their night together only confirms this.

This definitely had a twist I didn't expect. Actually one big one that I did and one other that I didn't, but it would have been good even if I had figured the whole thing out.

The book kept my attention and, although not all of the plot points were believable, it was very good and I am emailing a few friends to recommend it.

2.5/5⭐️

Dark and twisty. A true psychological thriller. The past and present collide in the most unexpected way.

I feel like the story was told in an abrupt way, and the plot didn’t flow smoothly but the redeeming factor was how unexpected the twists were.

Exactly what I have come to expect from this author - brilliant writing, twists aplenty, fantastic characters and a story that kept me reading long after I should have gone to bed. A triumph.

Once I reached the halfway point for this book, I literally could not put it down. If you are a fan of twists like me, this is definitely the book for you! Kept me on the edge of my seat.

Dr. Jen Miller recently lost her husband, Jeremy, in an avalanche accident. She is trying to put her life back together with her son and the help of her best friend, Rhonda.

Not only do we receive insight through the perspectives of both Jen and Rhonda, there are also flashbacks to two specific twelve-year-olds, who form a “Kill Club” and share some disturbing conversations.

How do all these characters fit together? Was Jeremy keeping any secrets from Jen?

Is Jen holding onto secrets, too?

I highly recommend this book to fans of mystery or suspense. I am already looking into what to read next by Samantha Hayes!

Jennifer is juggling a lot in her life. She is a respected doctor and mother who had life throw her a curveball recently. Coping with said, curveball she gets a surprise that leaves her reeling. I won’t go into further detail as this is a book to go into knowing as little as possible about the plot.

This book is told through dual timeline and through the POV's of Jen and her best friend, Rhonda. The timeline in the past is about a boy and the club he makes with a new friend. His storyline is dark and sad. In the present, we see Jen (and Rhonda) as Jen is dealing with the current situation(s) in her life. While reading, I was wondering how these two very distinct and seemingly opposite storylines would merge.

There is tension and unease throughout this book. Rhonda tries her best to help and understand Jen as Jen does her best to maintain control in her life and guard her secret(s). As the plot unfolds, we learn more about each woman, other characters and about Jen's marriage. These further builds intrigue and piqued my interest.

There are several twists, turns and reveals in this book. This kept me on my toes and engaged. I had several “come on already” and “what is wrong with you” thoughts while reading this book. It’s frustrating when a character behaves in a way, that at the time doesn’t make sense. I never quite knew where the plot was going to go, and I rather enjoyed this. Hayes did a great job pulling the wool over my eyes. This book starts out a little slow, but the pace soon picks up and keeps gathering speed until it's shocking conclusion.

Unpredictable, shocking, and gripping!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
