I love noodles in all forms and That Noodle Life offers a great selection of recipes and many colorful pictures. I did not get to try any of the recipes and realistically there are only a handful that I would probably try due to ingredient availability and price constraints, but I still look forward to getting a physical copy to add to my cookbook collection for future reference.
“That Noodle Life: Soulful, Savory, Spicy, Slurpy”
By Mike Le and Stephanie Le
Full of colorful photographs of noodle and pasta recipes for dishes that create appetite-stimulating appeal, “That Noodle Life: Soulful, Savory, Spicy, Slurpy,” by husband and wife team Mike Le and Stephanie Le, is a perfect cookbook addition for all ramen, macaroni, spaghetti, and noodle freaks everywhere. Nothing says comfort food like tucking into a hearty bowl of noodles—whether mac and cheese, chicken noodle soup, angel hair Alfredo, Chow Mein, or Pho.
The Le’s discuss varieties of the most common noodles—Oriental and Italian— in “That Noodle Life.” You’ll find a variety of Taste-tempting noodle recipes for special occasions and family meals included throughout— sumptuous ribeye steak and lobster dishes, as well as lasagna and macaroni and cheese. There are noodle and pasta recipes for just about all tastes.
My only disappointment with this beautifully illustrated and crafted cookbook is the omission of a recipe for my ultimate favorite noodles—Singapore Mei Fun—Spicy Singapore Rice Noodles. I fell in love with this dish while living in London and am now a certified “Noodle Freak!” Please include an easy-to-follow and prepared recipe for Singapore Noodles in Volume II.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review, "That Noodle LIfe" by Mike and Stephanie Le. A great noodle cookbook for beginners and experts alike This cookbook takes a dive into all different noodles from different cultures and cuisines Helpful tips and pictures are in the book along the way. A cookbook you will want on hand.
I mean, who doesn't love noodles, right? I have a diehard noodle-loving daughter, so when I saw this book, I was more than excited. Well, I have mixed feeling about it, though.
I love that this book comes with beautiful photos of most dishes. I'm a visual person and would love to see the picture of food in cookbooks, so this was a big plus for me for sure. This book also covers from Asian dishes to Italian, and easy & comforting weeknight to fancy & delectable, so it covers wide variety of wants and needs of readers. The recipes are written clearly, mostly simple and not cantankerous. Some of them have a touch of fusion and they are fun recipes as well.
The ingredients are, however, not easy to find especially if they're Asian-specific. I find it a little bit daunting to find certain ingredients, such as bone marrow or laksa, so am not sure if I'll try recipes that call for such ingredients. And, unfortunately there are quite a bit of recipes with such ingredients and I'm not sure if I'll go out of my way to look for them even though I live close to many Asian grocery stores.
I have made some of the recipes such as Cozy Chicken, Let's Taco 'Bout Noodles, Chinese Diner Classic, and French Onion Mac and Cheese and they all turned out well. I wouldn't recommend this book to everyone, but if you're familiar with Asian ingredients and yes, most definitely I would.
Thank you to Net Galley, the authors, and Workman Publishing for granting me access to free ARC of this book.
That Noodle Life by Mike Le and Stephanie Le is made for people who are obsessed with noodles. I am obsessed with noodles. So when I saw this book, I knew I had to request it right away. And it's not what I thought it would be -- in a really good way.
This book is fantastic. It's not just your typical pasta recipes, or some instant noodle hacks, it.has.everything. All types of noodles you can think of! Sure, pasta is there because it's criminal not to have it in a book that has the word 'noodle' in the title, and yeah instant noodle hacks are there too, but there's so much more to it. Pho, Laksa, Ramen, Chow Mein, Chow Fun, Lasagna (an entire section to itself, by the way), and different types of pasta not limited to your usual spaghetti and linguine. Oh and the sauces! I must try them all!
The write-ups are equally entertaining to read, along with the tips. And I'm glad you included a very detailed ingredient section. They aren't very hard to find, of course it'll depend on your location.
I just one have issue with the formatting. I'm not sure if it's because of my phone, but the mobile version's formatting can be troublesome. There are design elements that overlap with the title and the write-ups on some recipes.
Still, it is a wonderful book. I'll be heading out to my kitchen to see if I have ingredients to some recipes.
I always prefer cookbooks with pictures of the meals. This book has great photography. I would imagine it would circulate well in a public library collection.
Loved this cookbook and love the authors. An approachable style with easy to follow instructions. Wonderful photos.
That Noodle Life by Mike Le and Stephanie Le is a wonderful book on different out of the box ways to prepare and eat noodles from spaghetti to ramen. This book has many easy to follow recipes and great pictures to show the dishes. I recommend this book to anyone who loves noodles and wants to up their game in a big way.
This book was hard to read because of the lack of color contrast between the illustrations and the background. There was a lot of blue on yellow.
I never knew how much I needed a purely noodleful cookbook. There are SO MANY recipes here. The pictures are beautiful, full color, and look super delicious. Not only does it show several recipes for asian noodle dishes, but you also get italian dishes and one recipe in particular I cant wait to try: the pumpkin sage mac n cheese.
I absolutely love larger noodles and these recipes look so good. This is definitely a great cookbook to add to the shelf at home.
Cant wait for the release.
My daughter is obsessed with noodles. I have made a number of dishes from this book and she has loved every one of them. I will definitely be giving her a copy to take with her to college. A few of the ingredients may be a little difficult to source but where no alternative can be used the internet is always an option.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.
I was so excited to get an early read of this book. A book about Noodles and I was imagining all the different pasta creations I would be making. Sadly, I was a bit let down because it was not at all what I envisioned. True, there's a lot of delicious-sounding pasta in here, but many are hard to make. There are so many ingredients that would be hard to find at a local grocery store. Many of these pasta recipes were heavily Asian influenced, more so than Italy. This is a gorgeous book and there are photos of each recipe, which I love. I really appreciate it when cookbooks have pictures since I'm a visual person. Will this be a great gift for a college student or beginner? Nope. This is more geared to those who want to experiment with many flavors and ingredients than the average noodle dish. I would love to try so many of these if someone else was making them for me! I just don't have the time with a toddler to try involved recipes.
I want to thank the publisher, Workman Publishing Company, for providing me with an e-ARC to review. Thanks to Netgalley as well. It has in no way influenced my opinions.
I love noodles and they are so versatile. I think everyone can find something to appeal their taste buds in this book because there are many ideas. Yes, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves noodles.
A very attractive book of noodle recipes for soups, bowls, lasagnas and even salad. Most of these are Asian, but some Italian style dishes are included and even an off the wall Taco Lasagna that sounds good. This book will be most useful to those who live in a metropolitan area with access to the oft mentioned "neighborhood Asian market", where ingredients are not only available, but you could ask questions about them. For those people like me who live 25 miles from supermarkets whose Asian section occupies about 1/4th of an aisle and not much variety there is the web. The recipes are interesting and clearly presented, The authors include a nice glossary of the ingredients.
I received an electronic ARC via NetGalley.
This cookbook is a colorful, appealing guide to a variety of recipes using a variety of noodles in a variety of forms. Whether you're looking for inspiration on making lasagna, ramen, or various other pasta- or noodle-based dishes, this probably has something worth looking at! The majority of the recipes seem approachable, and there is a guide to ingredients in the back that is helpful for items that may not be as generally available in any American grocery store.
My one caveat is that the formatting on the review copy was difficult to read, so I can't vouch for some of the information/instructions. I do hope to try a few of the recipes despite this!
That Noodle Life went far beyond my expections for a cookbook with a main ingredient of noodles. I was expecting "souped" up ramen recipes, but there are bona fide, fine dining type dishes that stand out. The cookbook authors not only gave many great recipes, but also included items like a 2 page guide to noodles, ingredients and sourcing, substitutions, and tips.
The recipes are divided into sections with unique names, which I have listed below with some of my favorites.
Cozy Noods for Crazy Moods: Festival Yakisoba with Bacon and Brussels Sprouts; Slow Braised Sugo with Tagliatelle; Homemade Pasta; Spaghettoni and Roasted Garlic Fennel Meatballs
Low Stress to Decompress: Steak and Heirloom Tomato Noodle Salad; Garlic-Butter Bucatini with Oyster Sauce; Spicy Sesame Chili Oil Noodles
Please Send Noods: Miso Clam Linguine; Calamarata with Shrimp and Scallops
Noodle Fun for Everyone: Smoky Bacon Kimchi Fried Udon; Ramen with Slow-Braised Pork Belly Kimchi Stew; Charred Pork Meatballs with Vermicelli
Soup-er Noodles to the Rescue: Super Savory Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup; Ultimate Weeknight Chicken Pho; Accidentally Vegan Weeknight Laska
The Ultimate Noodle: The Ultimate Lasagna; Pumpkin Sage Lasagna; Creamy Chicken Lasagna
Living Your Best Noodle Life: Cracked Black Pepper and Pork Belly Fusili Bucati; Smoky Cumin Lamb with Biang Biang Noodles
Scattered throughout the cookbook are great tip pages like Soup Up Your Noods, which is how to take instant ramen to new levels. Additionally, there are helpful sections like How to Build a Bowl, including information and recipes for the components that you need.
That Noodle Life will keep any noodle lover happy, with great recipes that are elevated well beyond expectations.

It has a really great variety of recipes and ideas that make one of my go to fast comfort foods even more appealing. The recipes are easy to follow and the ones I tried turned out great. I recommended this book to any college student living on a budget, shirt on time or just happes to love noodles! The photographs are fun and well taken. When I first saw this book, I what a great book this would be for someone in college. Quick, easy meals. However, the ingredients listed are items most people do not keep on hand. I did find a couple of recipes I would like to try.
