When investigative reporter Kaylie Karlyle loses her job, her old boss gets her a freelance position reporting on Christmas traditions in a small European country. When Kaylie arrives in Tolvania she discovers she has been hired by the queen to write a fairy tale full of holiday traditions for the queen's granddaughter. Prince Alexander has been given the task to introduce Kaylie to the Christmas traditions so she has her material for the book. Kaylie is hesitant to do something so different from her regular reporting style and Prince Alexander has a hatred of reporters but the queen insists on the book being finished. Along the way maybe Kaylie will remember why she used to love Christmas and Alexander will remember how to love again. The book is predictable but cute and definitely put me in a holiday mood.
Loved this book so much! Such a fun twist on your typical Royal romances. I love that family and forgiveness played such an important role in the story, reminding us what’s truly important…especially at Christmastime!
If you love Hallmark movies or Christmas movies, then this is the perfect book for you. I absolutely loved it, and the whole time I kept thinking it should be made into a movie too. Well-written with some unexpected plot twists, and those enjoyable moments where the writer sets you up to expect something and then does something completely different. I was all in and along for the ride from the first chapter. Loved this book!
If you’ve read any of this author’s previous books then you know what you’re in for. Karen Schaler is a master at writing a beautiful festive read and this one is no exception. Definitely one that could imagine being transferred to the screen. Thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale may feel like a Hallmark or Netflix movie and for good reason-writer Karen Schaler has written many popular holiday movies. This charming tale takes place mostly in Tolvania, freelance reporter Kaylie takes a holiday assignment but is not told it's for the royal family and that the queen wants her to write a holiday fairy tale for the young princess, her granddaughter. The princess's father, the widower handsome prince, is very guarded and wary of media The royal family has many unique Christmas traditions their tiny country depends upon and slowly Kaylie finds herself feeling the magic of the holiday season. While this story is not unpredictable it is filled with festive holiday fun.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale by Karen Schaler is a sweet holiday read that will surely get you in the mood to make a mug of hot cocoa and snuggle up by the fireplace. It is a quick read that will grab your attention from beginning to end. A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale is the story of Kaylie, an investigative reporter, that loses her job right before Christmas and is offered a top-secret story that she has to fly to Europe to complete. She accepts and ends up in a castle in Tolvania living with the queen, prince, and princess tasked with writing a fairy tale. I am a sucker for all things royal, so this story was right up my alley. I would definitely recommend adding this book to your holiday reading list.
Exactly what it sounds like, a Royal Christmas Fairy Tale is a lovely seasonal escape that's perfect for a snowy evening.
I am a sucker for all things Christmas and I have a weak spot for all things Hallmark. A Royal Christmas Fairytale was the best of both worlds. This book is sugar and spice and everything nice. It gave me all the Christmas vibes my heart desired with a sweet romance on the side. I was drawn into it and read with enthusiasm. It gave me the Hallmark romance fix I needed in book format and left me with a smile on my face. I’m giving A Royal Christmas Fairytale the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
While this may be my least favourite book from Schaler so far, it was still a sweet little holiday read.
I think I mostly feel like this would have worked better as a movie than a novel.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
I enjoyed the story, it started out with an interesting protagonist with some comical moments but it was all a little too convenient and predictable for me. Kaylie and the Prince didn’t spent a lot of time together and their falling in love felt unnatural and rushed.
I also couldn’t get The Christmas Prince out of my head when I was reading it, there were just too many similarities.
The perfect Christmas book for cosy nights abd frosty mornings. The ideal mic of. Likeable characters and storyline. Perfect.
What a heartwarming, gem of a book! Karen Schaler’s A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale is the story of a reporter Kaylie Karlyle who goes to Europe to write a freelance story. Little does she know that what she finds there will have such a large effect on her life! It’s a lovely, charming book that will make you believe in the true meaning of finding a happily ever after.
The title of this book really says it all. It really is an uplifting and heartwarming Christmas fairy tale. A slow burn romantic story filled with tons of royal Christmas traditions, love, loss, forgiveness, and family. The descriptions of all the traditions and imagery of the town were beautifully detailed, although I did feel a little too much time was spent on the details. I especially loved how the royal family were such down to earth and loving people and how first responders, teachers, and military were honored with their own Christmas tradition. I definitely recommended for those who love the royal families and fairy tales.
This was so adorable! Just like a romantic holiday hallmark movie, the down on her luck reporter gets a job covering the Christmas traditions of the royal family of Tolvania. It was so cute, I very much enjoyed.
A very saccharine sweet book that although cheesy and predictable is a lovely festive read. It has all the makings of a Netflix movie and I would be surprised if it doesn't get adapted for the screen by this time next year.
A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale by Karen Schaler
This was a great romantic, Christmas novel. Included lots of decorations and traditions. Well-written. Lovely characters. I recommend this work.
I absolutely adored this book. One of my favourite types of Christmas romance and this royal fairytale romance did not disappoint. Loved the characters and the storylines.
2.5 rounded up to a 3. This is your standard Christmas romance movie in book form. I found it never went beyond a very surface level and there were a lot of trite sound bites.
I wanted to buy into the love story but it wasn't enemies to lovers so much as people who found each other hot but annoying. They had a lot of misunderstandings that stemmed entirely from Kaylie being an 'investigative reporter' and pushing too hard or being difficult or downright rude. I finished this book but I won't remember it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the e-ARC!
This book needs to be made into a NetFlix Christmas movie. The storyline would be awesome for a movie. The way Tolvania is described, I can picture it but actually seeing it would be awesome. I really liked how down-to-earth the queen was and you couldn't help but want to pick up the princess and give her a hug. As someone who loves Christmas and everything that it encompasses, I struggled with the main character at first. As the story went on, I really enjoyed watching her remember all the things she liked about Christmas.
Thank you HawkTale Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced read.
Kaylie is a reporter who has forgotten the magic of Christmas. When asperations of moving up at work come to a grinding halt Kaylie does not know what she is going to do. Her old boss offers her a mysterious job, a news piece that will take her to Europe during the holiday season. Upon arriving Kaylie is swept up in a fairy tale land that has to many Christmas traditions to count. The Queen asks her to write the princess a Christmas fairytale. One that highlights many of the magical Christmas traditions that Tolvania is known for. Yet the prince doesn't trust reporters and hinders her, and questions her motives. Will the magic of Christmas mend broken hearts? Is the power of family strong enough to show Kaylie that work is not everything?
A royal Christmas Fairy Tale is a beautiful story about two people who think they have their lives on track and have the right priorities, but learn from each other that sometimes there is more to life then just work and hiding from the past. Both Kaylie and Prince Alex go through different discoveries not only about themselves but those around them. While this is still a quintessential love story, I do like the fact that Kaylie finds out a secret that she could use to further her career but instead decides that maybe the path she was on isn't the correct path for her future. I loved hearing of all the different traditions that Tolvania does each year for the holidays. I can only hope that I create some sort of traditions that my own family will want to continue throughout the years. The recipes and the crafts at the end of the book are also such a lovely surprise. I may just have to try out some Gingerbread Pancakes.
