If your looking for a perfect Christmas book, then this is it. I do wish the characters were a little more developed but other then that it was good. The magic in the book was just enough. It went really well with how real the book was around Christmas time. I really enjoyed this book, gave me hallmark movie vibes.

My Review: I have read another book by Schaler before and I loved the focus on traditions, so I was really thrilled when I got into this one it also heavily featured family holiday traditions. Of course you can't go wrong with a castle setting with a bit of enemies to lovers romance thrown in and just a touch of mystery to fill out all the holiday moments. It was an easy book to settle into and picture. The characters did fall a little flat for me but all the descriptions of the holiday fun really pulls it together. If you are looking for a Hallmark style Christmas book to read, this definitely fits the bill.

My Rating: While this one was a bit predictable with characters that seemed a bit cookie cutter, it still pulls it off with all the wonderful holiday traditions and warm cozy feelings. I give it a rating of Three Paws.

Having just read Christmas Ever After by Karen Schaler, I was very excited to be able to red A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale. Who doesn’t love a romance at the magical time of Christmas and a fairy tale to boot? This book delivers just that – a feel good story that you can get lost in and BELIEVE in happy-ever-after ending.

Kaylie, an investigative reporter, thinks she is good at her job at exposing societies’ falsehoods. She is totally focused on her career with little social life. But due to cutbacks when the station, she loses not only her job but her whole focus. And just before Christmas! Kaylie’s boss and mentor, Bob, finds her a freelance job to write about Christmas traditions at a secret international location. But Kaylie is a Grinch, not one who loves Christmas nor does she love to write the fluffy stuff. However, Kaylie needs a job and takes it on. In a twist, it turns out that Kaylie is really hired to write a Christmas Fairy Tale of the Royal family of Tolvania by the Queen. Her widowed son, Prince Alex is traumatized that his mother would even allow a reporter into their castle as he seeks to protect his young daughter and the Crown. But the Queen is set on having the magic of Christmas work its magic. Alex and Kaylie are at odds but find they have more common than they think. Working with Prince Alex, as she learns of their holiday traditions, she remembers Christmas years gone past that she dismissed. Kaylie may have met her prince, but is she his Cinderella?

This is a fun story that makes you remember what it’s like to want those happy endings. The descriptions of all the holiday traditions makes you want to add them to your family. I loved the recipes at the end that were enjoyed in the story. Grab a cozy throw and curl up to read this feel-good book that in of itself is a true fairy tale of Christmas.

Many thanks to #netgalley #karenschaler #aroyalchristmasfairytale for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a Hallmark movie in the making if ever there was one. It definitely reminds me of The Christmas Prince, but I still enjoyed it! If you love the Hallmark vibe and want to get into the Christmas spirit this is definitely one to pick up!

What a magical little tale this was. Quick, heart warming and romantic, this book was the very essence of a feel good Christmas story. I am a major romantic at heart and when you add castles + balls + royalty, I'll fall for it every time. Very enjoyable, if you like Hallmark Christmas movies you'll love this!

This was another lovely Christmas story from Karen Schaler! I enjoyed the fairytale castle setting and the wonderfully detailed descriptions of holiday decorations and traditions. It was so much fun to meet these characters and learn about them. The Queen is such a standout character in this story. I'd love to read more about her. I found it to be so compelling, and I loved the scenes she was in. All the characters were great though. The enemies-to-lovers concept was strong here, and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow!

This was a feel-good perfect story for the holidays, and I recommend it for readers that are looking for an easy, light holiday read that will make you just feel lovely!

The perfect book for getting in the Christmas book. The author of The Christmas prince for Netflix, gave us this book that I will describe as Christmas in a book. I really got the Christmas spirit from this book, but the plot was not perfect for me. The problem was how much it resembled “The Christmas Prince” and since I expected something new I was disappointed

This is a feel good love story at it's finest.

Kaylie is an investigative reporter.
She and her family don't celebrate Christmas at Christmas time as her sister is in Germany and her parents always take some luxurious vacation.
She gets sent to Europe on a freelance assignment during Christmas to interview a family about Christmas traditions - which turns out to be the royal family, including 1 person who's against the paparazzi...

The Queen has thrown together Kaylie and Prince Alex in more ways than one, just hoping that something will work out.
Princess Anna has taken to Kaylie and shared several traditions and warmed up to her so much.
Prince Alex is still on edge with Kaylie.
Every time they get close, something pushes them back away.

I really enjoyed this romance. It's perfect for this time of year. Feel good, soul warming, traditional, family centered love story. I want to move to Tolvania!!

Thanks to NeGalley for allowing me to read and review this book!!

This book reminded me from the beginning of a hallmark movie. You have the push, pull and the misunderstanding., you have love, fun and a spunky princess and queen. I loved the princess she spoke her mind and never filtered anything coming out of her mouth which made her such a sweet honest girl. The queen was also fun because she wanted what was best for her family but she also felt like the most loving person to everyone around her. Kaylie seemed like she knew what she wanted in her heart but it seemed her heart and head just didn't match up. I was not a huge fan of Alex why I understood his need to be cautious but he just came off like a jerk. Over all this book was a clean read and it was fun and really puts you in the Christmas spirit for sure.

A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale by Karen Schaler is a most charming contemporary festive offering that really captures Christmas in a book.
The reader is treated to a warm, wonderful atmosphere in contrast to the cold snow outside. Tempting the reader’s tastebuds with gingerbread pancakes for breakfast and hot chocolate, you are in for a real treat. All our senses are awakened under the masterful pen of Karen Schaler.
This is a fairy tale for grown-ups as we experience, princes and princesses, and all the elements that make up Christmas.
There is a serious side too as we witness the damage on a family, of being a workaholic. The richest people are those who put family first.
A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale was positively delightful. I loved dropping in on a family as they shared their Christmas traditions.
I received a free copy via Net Galley. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

This author never let's you down and there's a reason she's known as christmas Karen. Totally amazing book set in the lost idyllic European locations in Tolvanaia... sounds alot like halstatt. We have a castle and a royal family and a single girl.. but the girl qnd the Prince dont get along initially but she loves the wheen and the Princess. Her job at hand is different from most journalist jobs but she falls into it like a duck to water but can the journalist write without commenting about the royals which is against the rules.
This is just magnificent qnd simply inspiring to want to be there. I couldnt out this down.

A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale

by Karen Schaler

A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale is perfect for readers who enjoy a book infused with:
*the spirit of Christmas
*beautiful snowy backdrops
*Christmas traditions
*the importance of family
*magical, romantic possibilities
*a belief that wishes can come true
*a kinder, gentler way of interacting with others
*royalty who love and respect the citizens of their kingdom

The story centers on:
Alexander—handsome, widowed prince
Isabella—perceptive and generous queen
Anna—precocious princess, enthusiastic, but respectful
Blixen—charming Vizsla dog
Kaylie—investigative reporter

What happens if you are expecting a promotion, but discover at Christmas that the company is making cuts? You accept any job, even if it is a mystery assignment, if it might lead to greater things.

What do you do if your wife dies and the paparazzi are ruthless in their hounding? You escape to the Caribbean.

With a little royal manipulation, the two are thrown together, with a comfort zone nowhere in sight.

My favorite character is the princess, mature in manners and understanding of the grownup world of royalty, but young in her enjoyment of life. My favorite scene is Kaylie’s arrival in Tolvania, unaware she will be working in a real castle inhabited by royalty. She is greeted by the princess, but thinks it is all pretend and plays along with what she thinks is an imaginary scenario. Confusing and embarrassing for Kaylie. Amusing for the reader.

Along the way I could tell that Kaylie had stepped over a boundary, a law actually. That decision was complicated by a mistake that I knew was coming and which added tension to several chapters as I waited for the issue to explode. If you want a true Christmasy, romantic escape, A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale was written just for you.

I would like to extend my thanks to NetGalley and to HawkTale Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Memorable Lines:

She wondered, if she’d had an inspiring art teacher who had encouraged her, instead of telling her all the things she was doing wrong, maybe she would have liked art more.

Kaylie was once again impressed by how many of the royal family’s Christmas traditions included the entire village of Tolvania and focused on giving back and bringing people together.

“Christmas spirit is the heart and soul of Christmas because it celebrates family, faith, friends, community, hope, and love,” the queen said. “You can tell a lot about someone by the way they celebrate and honor Christmas.”

A ROYAL CHRISTMAS FAIRY TALE
BY: KAREN SCHALER

About 4.5 Stars!

Yes. It is getting to be that time of year again. With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching this coming week it will kick off the crazy crowds of traffic and stores being crowded with Christmas shopping. I thought the timing was right to read a story about the magic of Christmas if only you believe to get me ready for the Christmas time spirit and this wonderful imaginative tale delivered. I felt it to contain a bit of magical realism but it certainly was realistic at the same time. The cover is gorgeous but it didn't contain any Christmas recipes as the synopsis states. It did contain the description of terrific sounding gingerbread pancakes with frosting and an old fashioned shop where chocolate was made on the premises. The story starts out in New York City where the main character, Kaylie loses her job as an Investigative reporter that is the voice of the people to report on scams, fraud and all things not true. You could say Kaylee is the watchdog police to inform the city about fake Santa's, handbags, watches etc. Her hopes is to have her own series on this topic until her small TV station is bought by a company that makes major labor cuts at the station leaving Kaylee jobless a week before Christmas.

Kaylee is a likable main character who is used to not celebrating Christmas instead choosing to work and pick up the shifts for fellow employees who have families relieving them of their duties so that they can enjoy the holiday. Kaylee is very focused on work and doesn't have a family or even the time for a relationship for a man. So when her surprise layoff happens she is at a real loss. Her boss Bob finds her a temporary secret assignment which she agrees to take on in which she doesn't find out what it is until she arrives in an Eastern village of Europe called Tolvania. She is surprised to learn that she is to stay in a centuries old castle that is opulent with beautiful amenities and a monarchy.

There is the warm and wise Queen Isabella who has arranged Kaylie's assignment to write a fairy tale for her grand daughter who is ten years old, Princess Anna. Princess Anna has a prickly father named Alexander who is the Prince of the sovereign state of Tolvania who does not want Kaylie to stay with them because he hates reporters and this puts Kaylie in an uncomfortable position. There is really a lot of Christmas spirit as this village and Queen Isabella believes in decorating the castle and the land with twinkly Christmas lights on all of the trees facing their beautiful lake with lights and red ornaments. Princess Anna and her father Prince Alexander have spent the past Christmas's travelling since the mother and wife Sophia died. This is to be their first Christmas spent at home and Queen Isabella wants to create some Christmas spirit by giving her grand daughter the unique gift of her very own fairy tale written by Kaylie who chooses to incorporate in her fairy tale the Queen's traditions.

This certainly had a very special feel to it as all of the character's were kind and relatable. The Christmas traditions that the Queen carries out is where the magical realism seemed to surface in this story for me. The whole village is quaint and the people who inhabit it are geared towards also making the spirit of Christmas happen by singing all of the traditional Christmas carols that I grew up with and still love. This was an original Christmas novel which I enjoyed immensely and has me hoping that I can create some new Christmas traditions of my own to make this year's Christmastime special again for my oldest son who has moved back home for the time being. I hope to come up with some special gift ideas for him that will make this Christmas memorable. I have some ideas that are personable and that I hope deliver for him that Christmas magical spirit. This Author already has had a Christmas novel made into a movie on Netflix so I can assure you that if you choose to read this novel it will inspire you to want to create some new traditions along with what you already do to make this Christmas memorable. I really highly recommend this novel for anybody who wants to start getting into the Christmas spirit and guarantee that you will also be inspired to want to create new special memories for your loved ones. A solid 4.5 stars and a happy feel to your reading experience.

Publication Date: October 5, 2021. This is already available! I am adding my own copy to keep for future years to come to help remind me the miracles of Christmas by what I can do differently to enjoy this season more rather than be stressed out about all of the hectic chores to be finished in time for Christmas.

A huge thank you to Net Galley, Karen Schaler and HawkTale Publishing for generously providing me with a copy of my Arc in exchange for a fair and honest review. I really enjoyed this and it delivered the spirit of giving for me. All opinions are my own.

‘Tis the season to start reading those Christmas stories and listening to that favorite Christmas music. Or at least, it is for me. This year I started by listening to Reba’s Christmas album and reading A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale. It was such a simple start for the holiday season.

A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale is basically a Hallmark movie in written form. In fact, I can almost visualize them turning this into an actual movie sometime. Or at least something very similar. A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale follows the journey of investigative reporter Kaylie who lives in NYC and has been working so hard she has lost her Christmas spirit. When she unexpectedly loses her job, she is offered the opportunity to go to Europe for a story. This story is nothing like she expects- it is not an investigative report but a fluff piece requested by the Queen of Tolvania. The Queen would like Kaylie to write her granddaughter a fairytale involving the traditions of the family.

At first Kaylie completely balks at the idea. She is an investigative reporter not a celebrity journalist. Plus it is obvious from the very beginning that the Queens son, Prince Alexander is adamantly against it especially with the negative experiences with reporters in the past. The Prince is a very guarded man who is protective of his family and mourning the loss of his wife. Like Kaylie he has forgotten how to enjoy the holiday season. The queen pairs them together by having Alexander give Kaylie a tour of the castle and the town and explain some of the most favored traditions. And the more time they spend together the more the frost between them starts to melt.

I loved the visualization of Tolvania. It sounded like such a cute little town that went all out for Christmas. I wanted to visit all the shops with Kaylie and see all the trees and lights. I also enjoyed getting to know the traditions of the royal family. Learning these traditions with the Queen, Prince, and Princess causes Kaylie to realize how much she has missed the traditions and moments with her own family. Remembering these traditions also forces the Prince to see the joy in his daughters eyes again and to realize he should no longer hide from life.

Overall, A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale was exactly what I was expecting. A feel good story with traditions and memories. The only thing that really lacked for me was the build up for the romance. It felt very sudden. Boom! We’re now in love. Now I understand being wrapped up in the Christmas spirit together but I just wanted a little more. Regardless it was a sweet way to start off the 2021 holiday season. Also, I want one of those ginger spiced pancakes!

On the verge of a big promotion Kaylie loses her job as an investigative reporter for a NYC TV station. Understandably she's upset about the job; but it isn't putting a damper on her Christmas spirit because Kaylie doesn't really do Christmas. Her former boss finds a free lance job that takes her to the small country of Tolvania. Much to Kaylie's chagrin it is to write a 'fluff' piece about a family's Christmas traditions.

This is a feel-good romance set during the Christmas season. I've read another book by Karen Schaler and it was another solid 3 stars; but I'm a sucker for the royal love stories and thought I'd give it a try. The formula is pretty standard. You won't find anything new. The Prince & Kaylie don't like each other, then venture into the area of enjoying each other's company and finally fall in love. It has a Hallmark movie feel to it.

Not a bad read--certainly a quick one. My average rating is the way Ms. Schaler writes her female protagonists. They are given a background that suggests very successful, worldly etc; yet have the maturity level of a 15 year old. Also I'm not thrilled that often lack common sense. So reader be warned. If you can get past that, you'll enjoy a Cinderella type love story set during the magic of Christmastime.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a copy for an honest review.

Wonderfully written Christmas story. I felt as though I was Kaylie, right there in the castle learning all the traditions in Tolvania.

This was a cute Christmas romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. The author made you feel like you were there with Kaylie and Prince Alexander in Tolvania.

When Kaylie loses the promotion and her job she is sent on a mystery job by her former boss/still friend. It definitely isn't what she expects. She finds herself in Europe at a castle, hired by the queen to write a fairy tale for her granddaughter, the princess.

The story was easy to read and flowed easily. I hated seeing it end.
