A lovely heartwarming story of family, friendship, and the love of Christmas. Really enjoyed the main characters’ back story … although simple it was enough description to help anchor the characters.
A wide variety of family characters and neighbours bring colour to the story without over complicating the story. Easy to follow and engaging without being overly challenging - just what I needed!
Puts you in the Christmas spirit!
The perfect Christmas book for cosy nights abd frosty mornings. The ideal mic of. Likeable characters and storyline. Perfect.
What a lovely, family orientated festive story this is, with an emphasis on traditions and caring for others in the community. I loved the yarn bombing Nan and the close relationship the main protagonist, Lexi, has with her siblings and parents. Plenty of laugh out loud moments and a tender romance that unexpectedly means the man moving towns to be with the woman he loves - most refreshing!
Really enjoyed this book, could not put it down. Will definitely read more by this author. .
The start was so promising, but sadly the story went straight into a downward spiral rather quickly.
Lexi discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her, right before she's supposed to finally take him home with her for Christmas. So she throws him out and then leaves for Christmas with her parents by herself. There, she has a run-in with a handsome stranger, who turns out to be the tree surgeon the local council have tasked with tearing down the Christmas tree on a local square because the tree has become a risk.
And that's the point where I realised this story was not going to improve. Lexi started out as such a strong character, dealing with her cheating boyfriend like a boss. But once she goes home, her entire character deflated and she flattened out into a one-note character. I never warmed up to the love interest, who was just incredibly bland.
Overall, I was left feeling like the author was trying a tad too hard to write the perfect quirky Christmas story, overshooting the goal by a long mile and ending up right smack-dab in the middle of cringe and cheese.
First of all I would like to say thank you to the publisher, the author and net galley for allowing me access to an advance reader copy of this book.
I think this was a very sweet slow Burn romance and I love that it was set in the Christmas season as I’m currently reading Christmas books to get Me ready for Christmas I think overall this book was really well set out the characters were 3-D and well thought out painting was great and I think overall it encompassed the festive feels.
I’ve become quite the fan of Karen King’s Christmas novels so I was excited to read her latest one recently and I’m so happy to say that I really enjoyed it. The Best Christmas Ever follows Lexi who adores Christmas but this year she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her so she dumps him and heads home to her family. I adored Lexi’s family, especially her Grandma Mabe! Lexi is upset to find the local council want to chop down the village Christmas tree and throws herself into saving the tree. In the process she meets some of the locals and I loved the bond she makes with people. This is a really cute, heartwarming Christmas novel that is full of festive joy. I definitely recommend this one!
Hallmark please turn this book into a film, its that good and would be a perfect Hallmark festive film.
Not sure who my favourite character is.
We have Grandma Mabe who is festive yarn bomber with her friends and gets up to all sorts of things.
Lexi and her whole family who are fanatical about Christmas. You should see the decorations they put up, and how excited they are that the whole family will be together this year, as well as having a child in the house again
There is the fight to save the towns Christmas tree, which tree surgeon Joel finds himself involved with, despite not being a fan of the season.
And there is Lloyd who Joel and Lexi both help and is a wonderful side plot. Not to mention Sweetie an adorable dog!
This is one very Christmassy book, and I loved all elements of it. It was such a joy to read, and it really was the best Christmas ever for Lexi.
Thanks to Headline Accent and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
My first book by Karen King and I loved it 😊
A really enjoyable and easy Christmas read which I would totally recommend to everybody.
Extremely likeable characters especially the Forde family; Granny Mabe and Lloyd and Joel and Lexi.
The author has a great way of drawing you into the story and makes you feel that you are there in Lystone with them.
I would really love there to be a sequel to this.
A very worthy five stars.
Such a great feel good christmas book!
The right amount of christmas cheese vs christmas cheer - I love reading books like this in the run up to December as it throughly gets me in the festive mood.
Throughly recommend!
I couldn’t ask for anything better for a wonderful Christmas read. Karen King had eloquently put across the ideal way to spend the festive holiday. Obviously not to everyone’s taste, but definitely mine and that is to be surrounded by family, friends and loved ones. To offer the hand of friendship to those people who are alone. The story was a Christmas romance. I couldn’t put the book down. The characterisations were extremely believable. Not a horrible person amongst them.
Lexi Forde so excited this Christmas as she is off to Devon to be with her parents and siblings. One of her brothers is coming over from Canada with his wife and child, who nobody had met. It was extra special too as it was her first Christmas with her boyfriend Ben. Deciding to give him a surprise, Lexi met him from work one evening however it was Lexi that got the surprise as she saw him kissing another woman. Consequently she goes to Devon earlier and this is fortuitous for the small village. The large tree on the green has been deemed unsafe and the council want to chop it down. Bit between her teeth Lexi finds out that it isn’t quite as bad as they are led to believe. The tree means so much to the community. On Christmas Eve they all congregate around the sparkling lit up tree and sing carols. Lexi was determined that this year was not going to be any different. Lexi not only finds herself getting hundreds of signatures, she also encounters the rather delicious tree surgeon, Joel. Join Lexi on her mission to save the tree and read about the wonderful community. Be entertained by her grandmother, who had me laughing out loud. I hope I can be like her in twenty years time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone who like this genre. Thank you, Karen King, for such a delectable read.
A truly delightful Christmas Read ,all about traditions ,Family , Village life & saving what's important about the Yuletide season. Lexi Forde is looking forward to spending Christmas with all her family down in Devon after the School term has finished & also introducing them to her Boyfriend Ben then she discovers face to face that he's been cheating on her , so can she manage a Christmas to remember , deal with her broken heart & not let it spoil everyone else's time............. I'm not going to spoil things but a special tree in the heart of the village ,some Yarn Bombers, a Dog called Sweetie ,and a few other folk make this a fantastic Christmas Book to read curled up in the warm . #FB, #NetGalley, #Goodreads, #Instagram, #Amazon.uk..co, #, #, #
Lexi is looking forward to her family Christmas celebrations. This is the first Christmas with her boyfriend, Ben, and whole whole family is going to be at her parents home in Devon. But things don’t go to plan when she sees Ben kissing another woman and finds out he has been having an affair.
Determined to not let this spoil Christmas, she goes to Devon on her own. However, when she arrives she discovers the village traditions are in danger of not being cerated this year and Lexi is determined to save Christmas.
Such a heartwarming story.
This was the cutest little Christmas book! Two broken hearts, enemies at first over the tree in the Green where the village gathered on Christmas Eve to do caroling. A lovely family all together for the holidays. Definitely gives off all the feelings of Christmas and what it's really about! Being with friends and family! I loved Lexi and Joel... and sweetie (the dog) and Granny Mabe was a character for sure! Definitely recommend picking this one up for a lighthearted Christmas read.
A great Christmas book that is not too sweet or predictable! It has a good story full of determination, Christmas cheer, family time and love. The style of writing really envokes the sense of Christmas and makes you feel as if you are part of it. I loved Gran being a rebel and knitting decorations for the tree on the green!!
Lots for you to enjoy!
What a fantastic slice of village life. Loved this family saga was very heartwarming and a n excellent feel good cosy read. Finished on one sitting loved loved loved,
Well written and will be looking for more from this author
it gets almost maddening when a book starts so good and gives you that much hope of a good read, only to get yourself kicked on the head for trusting the shimmering beginnings....
.
the book starts when Lexi "the main female" discovers that her boyfriend of almost a year is cheating on her, just few days before Christmas, which makes this whole betrayal thing much harder because of the grand plans Lexi had for her and her boyfriend's first Christmas together.
Now, just to be clear, Lexi had a very nice and empowering reaction to her split with Ben, she told him to shoo off and went to her parents' to have one memorable celebration with her whole family.
.
so far so good, huh?.... nope
the story after she goes back home goes through a downward spiral, Lexi turns into this push over woman who is extra obsessed with making everything more festival and making sure everyone is happy, which in the sake of sounding salty is a good thing, can't lie about that, but in moderation without acting like a kid, please!!
.
the main male almost felt like a mere being in the story, he was overly bland, there wasn't anything in his character that made him stand out or lovable,, but i got to say he was acting more maturely than Lexi regarding his relationships, so not like Lexi who literally kept whining about Ben even when she was so sure about her attraction to Joel, i mean.. can you make up your mind??
.
the only nice side about the book is how it featured how people celebrate the holidays which you gotta love even if you aren't that much of a Christmas fanatic.
I rated the book 1 star just because it wasn't fulfilling enough for me, i wanted more stuff to happen, like more romance or deep conversations.
overall, not the best book out there
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review via netgalley and the publisher*
A lovely cosy Christmas story, full of everything you want. A visit home to a friendly village, colourful characters, mild peril, laughter, tears, romance in unlikely places and Christmas joy.
I loved this book from beginning to end. Even n though Lexi was looking forward to her first loved up Christmas, she finds out he’s been cheating on her so kicks him out of her flat. Deciding to return to her family home a little sooner than planned, ,so she can get some well needed hugs/love from her mum, dad and gran. Lexi loves Christmas and everything it involves and upon finding out. that the villages huge Christmas tree is poorly and the local council wants to cut it down, Lexi finds herself smack bang in the middle of a campaign to save the tree.. Lexi is one of those people that everyone loves and she catches the eye of the new man in town. Will friendship lead to more, well you will have to read it yourself.
In the best way, this would be the ultimate Hallmark movie if Hallmark set movies in the UK. I love whenever a town comes together to fight to save a Christmas tradition, and in The Best Christmas Ever, we are saving the town tree. Obviously you need the town tree for the holidays, and when you have grandmas committing petty crimes to save it, I will always give five stars! I felt like this book had a few serious elements but perfectly captured the fun feeling I expect for holiday books. And I have to give a bonus star for the dog- she is ADORABLE, and is the cherry on top of this Christmas cake!
