A cute, clever cozy mystery for those who loved Beatrix Potter's animal stories.. The denizens of Shady Hollow are all anthropomorphic animals, with the character traits usually associated with the animals. I look forward to reading others in the series!

The imaginative authors behind "Shady Hollow" hit the mark with this book. It's great for younger readers but is equally entertaining for adults. Character interactions are spot on and as the story unfolds you find yourself wondering "Who Did It?"

Highly recommend sharing this story with a child, so you can share the mystery and not feel guilty for reading it.

Juneau Black has written an excellent cozy mystery in Shady Hollow. Unlike the traditional cozy mystery stories, a thoughtful and engaging narrative is infused with woodland creatures portraying human roles, with human traits blended with each species' quirks and characteristics. It is a lot of fun and what of the better aspects of the book. I rather enjoyed this one.

This was such a wonderfully detailed book. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing Shady Hollow come to life. After a murder, the town is on edge. This is a fun new series and I liked that it had animal characters and they weren't overly weird but just added more life to the story.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

A murder in the sleepy town strikes fear in everyone, and one another is close behind the residents begin to panic. Did I mention all the town members are different animals? It took a bit at first to get my head around that, but once I did I found I enjoyed this book a lot. Would highly recommend this one.

Shady Hollow by Juneau Black is a wonderful cozy mystery that is the first in the Shady Hollow series. Such a unique and fresh spin in the “traditional” mystery. I loved it!

I loved this book! It takes the traditional cozy mystery and instead of the “regular” human characters, we get to read an insightful and engaging narrative with woodland creatures infused into human roles with human characteristics blended with each specie’s own characteristics, quirks, and flaws. It is so awesome and creative!!!!

I loved the character listing at the beginning to help me orient myself with the character cast. Vera Vixen (the fox) has a nose for scoping out the news, scoops, and apparently murder. With the help of Lenore Lee, bookshop owner and raven, Vera ends up unearthing even more than she expected. Can the murder/mystery be solved? I really enjoyed following along to find out.

Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

5/5 stars
