Loved this! I need to go back and read the whole series. So relatable on a lot of levels, and just well written. I definitely recommend this author and can’t wait to go read more!
This was my first book by this author. I am going to have to go back and read the rest in the series. After a divorce, April is trying to move on and pick herself back up. Navigating her new life with her kids, a job and an ex husband that isn’t there is hard. I liked how the author made life real with the kids and not all fairytale. Jack is thrown in all of this and does an excellent job navigating being there for April’s kids and her.
I received this ARC through #netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing this book
When the new rage in the mom community, April, has her Calm Mom harshed by her life going to pieces, Jack is sent in to pick up the pieces and put Calm Mom brand back up at the top. In the wild wasteland of domesticity unlooked for love starts to take root. Blending humor, everyday life struggles and romance is something Christina Hovland excels at and I was tickled to finally pick up one of her standalone Mommy Wars romcoms.
April May Fall begins with average mom and wife, April, finding herself a discovered commodity when her attempt to find a way to hold it together through her calming techniques gets snatched up as Calm Mom brand. Little does her sponsor know that she is barely holding it together when her husband divorces her because he's fallen for another woman and her kids are acting out as a result. Holding on by her fingernails only lasts until a video of her looking the opposite of calm gets released.
Enter Jack, the company's fixer, stage right. Jack exudes calm as he must set April's world back to rights including that of her children. This is a role he never saw himself in and the early days are rough- and pretty hilarious. Meanwhile, Jack's charm works on them all and that might include a little thing called attraction and then love. How could this possible work out? It takes the help of April's quirky friends, a pair of kids, and more.
I tend to hold my breath when I jump into a new series by an author after really loving a previous one. Will the author's signature writing style and way of writing a story still be there? And, will it be fun and flirty in this case? I was relieved of this worry right at the get go. I was cracking up over April's mom world disaster and ignorant Jack arriving into this. Moms can nod their heads because yeah, life just isn't a sixties' sitcom with a mom like Harriet or June Cleaver. Divorce can rampage through a family and recovery isn't easy or clean.
Jack was a real charmer and it was fun and adorable to see him wading in and particularly with April's boy and girl. Jack was a special guy for April, but also for her family. He keeps his cool and just needed to get on board with this surprise twist life and love threw at him.
April's friends, and especially vivacious Kitty were over the top and added the dazzle. When April and Jack were messing up, it was the friends to the rescue. I haven't read the books before, but I'm guessing these gals had or will have their own romances in store.
It was a quick and light romcom and just what I was hoping for. It had some tender and spicy romance times, some funny moments, and touched on deeper matters without deep diving. I would recommend it to those looking for an entertaining and quick-moving read.
My thanks to Entangled and the author for providing an eARC to be read in exchange for an honest review.
Generally, I don’t love a single-parent romance. I just don’t love children in my romance books in general, they sort of ruin the vibe. However, in April May Fall, ruining the vibe was sort of the point!
April May Fall is a super cute romance. I loved the idea that April was an influencer, and it is very relevant today. I also sort of loved what a mess she was. I liked that she wasn’t perfect. What I especially liked is that this book took on mommy shaming. I don’t have children myself, but most of my friends do, so I can see how hard it can be to raise children. And I believe that, in general, you should be supportive and not tearing people down.
Jack was almost too perfect! I mean, this super handsome, successful guy seemed to be pretty calm and collected at all times. Not only that, he took to April’s kids very quickly. I found this a little unrealistic, but it worked for the story, so I got over it.
Though this book was told in the third person, it was also sort of told from two perspectives. I liked getting both April's and Jack’s views on things. It made me like them both more and want them to work everything out even more. I loved seeing April through Jack’s eyes. He tried to protect her so much, but when she proved she could handle it on her own, he was so proud. I absolutely loved the ending. It was such a cute twist.
The side characters we fantastic, and Kitty completely stole the show!
I enjoyed this book and want to go back to read the others in this series.
I love this series! These moms are the real deal and so relatable, it’s like I’m reading about life as I know it lol. This book is hilarious, heart warming and just the book you need to be reading now. This whole series is a must read and a definite epic escape from reality (even if it does seem just like your life 😂)
April May Fall was such a breath of fresh air after reading so much fantasy. I especially felt a connection to this story because I, myself, started my yoga journey at the beginning of this year. The feelings of anxiety and stress that the main character was feeling were reflected in my own life and I could understand April's need for grounding. This was a sort of slow burn romance alongside a mother's journey into finding and accepting herself. I really enjoyed all the humor and playful bits of the story as well. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a fun light read with a hint of steaminess!
I loved the chemistry between April and Jack. There was a good balance between romance, humour and heartfelt drama.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
April May Fall
Christina Hovland
Rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐/5(4.8/5)
April May Fall is such an amazing book where we meet April and her family. She acts as if she's got it all together even after her husband walking out on her, but reality has an ugly way of revealing things right and that's what happens when things go wrong on a LIVE and her reputation is ruined and the one saving grace is that Jack hasn't closed their contract after the whole fiasco!
Jack Gibson is a fixer and that's what he does best, when he walks into April's life she is rekindled of her crush over him and for the first time him being near her shouldn't bother her after all she's a grown woman right!! Jack is a fairy godmother of sorts and anything he touches turns gold and media fiascos are his cup of tea so as he tries fixing her CALM MOM persona he starts falling for this gorgeous, messed up, purple loving mama but everything has to be strictly professional between them but when push comes to shove will they take the leap or will he run away letting April fall.
Well written, with a flair for drama and characters are solid gold!, the plotline is firm and the banter is witty I mean what more could a person want out of a book!
A dramatic tale of reality on how Social Media is just that and that we shouldn't be judged by and for our lives there. April's journey through the book is inspiring and funny with eccentric characters that the author has adorned the book with! Totally worth your reading time! So take this book this weekend and kick back and relax with a nice hot cuppa.
Anything but calm mom!
This was a cute story. This series shows that what's on the outside isn't always what's on the inside. April seems to have everything together, but she really doesn't and when that goes viral...well Jack steps in.
These two were cute together and this was an entertaining read.
I voluntarily requested and reviewed an advance reader copy.
There was something delightful about April May Fall by Christina Hoveland. This single divorced mom of three is a social medial influencer known as Calm Mom who has hired a manager to help launch her brand higher, but when a shopping trip with her three kids being filmed live goes badly and viral her manager arrives to fix her and her brand, but instead he makes her realize she needs to find her center and believe in herself to get her life back on track.
April Davis is doing her best, after being blindsided by her husband leaving her for his skydiving instructor and leaving her to basically raise their three children; Harmony (8), Ronan (5), and Lola (2), by herself, while teaching yoga part-time and working on her influencer brand, trying to make sure her kids are okay following their dad leaving and the divorce, and learning a new normal. I liked April a lot and felt she was doing her best considering the circumstances. To say she’s not exactly the Calm Mom her brand denotes she is, is putting it mildly, but she’s trying every day to be a good mom and work her business to pay her bills and keep her children happy. She knows the viral video is bad, what she doesn’t expect if for Jack Gibson, her influencer manager, to show up on her doorstep to help her fix the damage. She really doesn’t expect him to fit so well into her life accepting Harmony’s offbeat style and too smart mouth, Ronan coping with everything by pretending to be a frog, and Lola’s special crayon tea.
Jack Gibson had no idea what he was getting into when he arrived in Colorado from California to help his client April Davis. He certainly didn’t expect his B&B host to be eccentric and April’s friend, he didn’t expect three kids who he grows to adore, he didn’t expect to become enthralled with April, he didn’t expect to love seeing his sister and her family so much, and he didn’t expect to fall in love and be turned down. I adored the way Jack jumped in and helped April even when she thought she didn’t need it. I loved the way he reminded her that she couldn’t take care of her kids, her friends, or her business if she wasn’t taking care of herself. There was something endearing about the way he just rolled with everything going on in her life and how easily he slipped into her life and her home to help her with everything while letting her shine.
I feel both these characters showed so much growth during this story which I appreciated. I did feel like their “romance” despite being a slow burn was still rushed considering everything April was dealing with and figuring out, but I did love them together. I also loved how easily Jack accepted April’s group of friends who were more like family and her children each of whom stole a piece of his heart with their little quirks.
While April May Fall was a rom-com, there were learning experiences and emotion to balance it out. I enjoyed every wild, crazy, exciting, and exhausting moment in this story.
Sweet light hearted read reminiscent of finlay Donovan is killing it. I found the main character slightly unlikable and the romance a little unbelievable but the concept was cute and it was well written
I really need to start doing yoga and stretching again! Especially after all the sex positions described in this one😂 Need to get more limber!
This book follows April who is a mommy/yoga influencer who is recently divorced. They talked her into doing a live in a grocery store with her 3 kids. I think that sounds like the definition of mistake.
If it went wrong it went wrong. Omg poor April and the internet came for her.
Jack came to help clean up or minimize the damage since she is his client. But also his sister is her friend.
After the very entertaining neighbor Kitty's rental is not the best she invites him to room in her house. And I can totally see how yoga could turn you on. Also, that's why my hubs watches me do yoga 🤦♀️ Those two had a spark but both weren't looking for anything serious.
Thank you for the great idea in case I forget the tooth fairy! Genius!
And seriously being a Mom is hard, every little human is different we should be building eachother up and not judging every single thing especially a 10 minute trip to the store.
Thank you entangled_publishing and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
I am loving these cute contemporary romances coming from Entangled! This is my second novel by Hovland and just the reprieve I needed in between my horror picks this month.
April is the Calm mom... Or so her followers think. Recovering from divorce, she juggles her three young kids, influencer status, an anxiety ridden hound and all of life's curve balls. Just as her influencer career kicks off, a shopping excursion being videod live goes hilariously wrong.
I'm not a mother (unless you consider fur babies kids... I do) and I tend to steer clear of motherish novels. This is Hovland though so I decided why the heck not. I love how realistic and raw her characters are. April brings the hardships and chaos of single motherhood to the forefront. Jack has his own personal flaws chemistry perfection for April. Gets also pretty yum in the eye waggly way. Even the little gremlins had me laughing as I read. Now THAT is totally rare.
The ups and downs of each character alongside the emotional and hilarious moments made this a wonderful read. If you're looking for your next feel good romcom, Hovland and Entangled have you covered!
Thank you, Entangled Publishing, for the gifted digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Let me tell you what I liked about the book. I liked the dual POV's of the books. I liked that the neighbors helped each other out and were friends. What I did not like. April, you were the parent. See people I am a mom and I have no problem disciplining my kids, I tell them what to do and when to do it.
If you're in the mood for a fun rom-com, you need to pick this one up. April and Jack's story was fun to read. And they were just so great together. The side characters were amazing and made the experience more enjoyable. They made me laugh out loud multiple times with their shenanigans. I loved it when Jack was so determined to help April build her confidence back. This story was just sweet and fun.
April May Fall is the third standalone book in Christina Hovland’s Mommy Wars Series. This book is told in dual POV and is April and Jack’s story. April is friends with the main characters of the previous two books and Jack is Rachel’s (Rachel, Out of Office - Book 1) brother.
This series just keeps getting better. Christina is the queen of LOL romantic comedy and I am loving these authentic motherhood books. So many of the scenes are just so relatable. April is my spirit animal for sure. She wants so badly to have it all together and life just keeps knocking her off of her feet. Jack was so much fun to read. He’s so used to being Mr. Fix It and to be so COMPLETELY out of his element made for seriously funny moments. The kids are the real stars of this book and watching Jack navigate three quirky kids made me fall so completely for him. Even though the timeline was fairly short in the story it had a real slow burn feel that made it feel organic . The steam was H O T, the emotions were real, the authentic feel of April needing to find herself after the upheaval of her life and Jack helping April find that calm made for an enjoyable read that I couldn’t put down. If you’re a mom you will definitely love this book but even if you’re not, I think Jack’s fish out of water perspective will be relatable. I highly recommend this entire series, I’m not sure I could pick a favorite, each book is fabulous!
ARC graciously given by the author via Netgalley and Entangled Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked this one! It was the perfect mix of fluff and substance, and fulfilled my romance craving.
I think my favorite thing about this one has to be that it was more than a romance. It was a family book, it was a book about the highs and lows of life. Nothing was perfect, nothing was even close to perfect. It was a beautiful disaster, and I loved it for that.
I also really loved April as a character! She was a mess, yes, but it was realistic. Her imperfections made her relatable, and I loved watching her grow over the story. And the best part was the reason she grew wasn't because of her newfound love, no, it was a growth in her confidence and so much more
Finally, I liked the romance in this one. It wasn't the reason I loved this, but it was still super enjoyable. I did get a bit tired of the characters dancing around the truth, but that's to be expected in any romance.
If you're in the mood for a lighthearted romance, this is for you! With a super hopeful message, it was a super fun read.
I am enjoying this series! The kids are very funny and the moms all have interesting (and millennial) jobs. The best part of this book was how Jack came in with the goal to build April's confidence back up and get her in tune with herself again. I really enjoyed the non-romance plot and found the few sex scenes to be well done.
Ribbit and Banana.
This book should have piqued my interest, but it didn't. I liked to know more about the topics being explored in this book, but it is quite underwhelming. I find April, the main character, to be really annoying and boring to follow. It took me a while in reading this one because of her personality. I get it that she's experiencing all the worst things that can happen, and I appreciate it a little because it depicts reality. But put it in a story and to a character like April? That's going to be the most uninteresting thing ever. I think this book will resonate more with the right reader, those who can sympathize more with April.
This is my first book by Christina Hovland but I'll be reading all the others in her 𝘔𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘺 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘴 series ASAP!
𝗔𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗟 𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗔𝗟𝗟 is a fun contemporary romance about April, an influencer known as The Calm Mom. When a live broadcast of her losing her shit goes viral, her brand manager, Jack, swoops in to help resuscitate her image. But once they start mixing business with pleasure, finding her inner peace has never been so challenging.
There are so many things to love about this sweet and relatable read. Jack is completely swoon-worthy, April's kids are adorable and I adored her friends. A lot of books recently have been about influencers but April's story is unique and entertaining, and although it's part of a series, it totally works as a stand alone.
If you're looking for a quick, funny and charming book about a couple with some serious chemistry and women who have each other's backs, pick this one up!
