Great read - strong and likable main character. Swooning romance... I just learned that this book is part of a "Mommy-War" series - I think I need to look into the other books...
Great book for an easy and relaxing read!
I had a great time with the first book and was very curious to discover April in this volume.
April is known for being the zen mom, the calm mom. But since her husband left her, she’s been far from it. Besides, her life turns into a nightmare when everyone sees her getting angry at her children on live TV. No more zen mom, no more advice… It’s a disaster! That’s when Jack, Molly’s brother, enters the scene. He works with April and his goal is to make her regain her serenity, whatever he has to do. However, he didn’t expect to fall under her and her children’s spell.
It took me a little while to get into the story, but I had a great time with the characters. It was a pleasure to meet Molly again in a few scenes and see what she became. April and Jack are touching and understand perfectly why our heroine is having a hard time dealing with what is going on around her.
This was a great read and I look forward to Christina Hovland’s next novel!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book early. When I read the synopsis I was instantly hooked and wanted to learn all about our main character, April. She is recently divorced with 3 kids and a career as a yoga influencer. She is known as "the calm mom". Her PR person, Jack, convinces her to do a live stream from the grocery store with her kids and dog and SURPRISE, it goes wrong. She loses her cool and then they have to try to save her reputation. Sounds great right? However, I thought her epic meltdown moment was not really even a meltdown. One of her kids busted her out for cussing, another peed her pants, etc. and she definitely melted down a little but if I (a mom of 2 young kids) saw that video I think I would feel some solidarity with her because we've ALL been there and the grocery store is literally the worst place to film your mothering if you want it to be top notch. Anyway, Jack comes to Seattle to get to know April better to figure out how to turn her back into "calm mom" and of course they fall in love. There's definitely the whole "fear of commitment" thing going on with both of them and thats a big hurdle but the HEA is sweet. I loved seeing April come into herself and accept the flaws. Overall, cute read but not the most memorable.
This book has serious HEART. I love reading about motherhood and this story was gripping from start to finish!
I really enjoyed reading this book! It is a standalone, as is each of the books in this "series". The best part of the was Jack's character and the calm and strength that he exuded despite being totally out of element and comfort zone. I loved how heartfelt and heartwarming the book was and I enjoyed the humor throughout. I felt that the character development in this book was really well done and I look forward to reading more of the books in the series.

Funny, snort out loud funny at times. Sweet, OTT, eye roll inducing…
This baby had it all and then some.
This cast of characters made sure I kept turning the pages to see just what would happen next.
I gotta say, I really liked April and Jack. April is going through a lot, but I loved her determination to be more. She does stumble along the way and definitely has to pick her battles, but she’s got it more together than she thinks. Jack is the planner. The Mr. Fix It and actually doesn’t do too badly when his plans go sideways, but he’s a good guy who is more than willing to put himself out there when necessary.
Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. It was slow burn, forced proximity ~ I mean totally “forced” ~ single parent goodness. But all of that combined did force April and Jack to see each other as more, especially when they are thrown into quite a few unexpected situations. I loved their bantering, they definitely had chemistry and I just liked their flow. The bump in their road wasn’t unexpected, but I definitely didn’t see how they got back together coming, but it was awesome and I was happy with how everything worked out for them.
I have to say that I don’t think I’ve ever read a book, a single parent one at that, where I thought “Oh, that’s not gonna work out well” so. Many. Times. OMG. And the first one was doozy because I was actually shaking my head saying “No. Don’t do it” outloud lol. But Harmony, Rohan and Lola were all kinds of crazy and sweet and Mayonnaise definitely made her presence known. It was nice to catch up with Rachel and Travis and having Sadie in the mix was nice little connection to the Mile High crew. But Yelena and Simone were amazing and Kitty...this woman is a force, she can’t out do Babushka in my book, but she’s pretty damn close.

I am back for another adorable and wonderful Christina Hovland story. I adored the heroine. She was perfectly, imperfect and totally relatable. Her character arc was fantastic. Not only did I love April, the heroine, but I loved the hero, Jack. He was so supportive and absolutely swoon worthy. The writing was solid and the emotional feels were an 8 out of 10 for this mom of three. I highly recommend. Huge thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
As a mom this felt so validating in all the ways! April is a mom influencer who has lost her calm when her life got a little more chaotic. I felt connected to her family life, her struggles to keep her stuff together and not accept help, and her feelings of constant failure. Seeing it on the page is extremely validating because I know I am not the only one barely keeping it together some days. Her kooky neighbors and friend group were a fun addition to the romantic storyline between April and Jack. Jack was this pristine suit wearing problem fixer who was totally out of his element among tea parties and frogs but he gave me hope! Their story was a slow burn of sweet character building and friendship building that lead to so much more.
I'm so happy that I got to read this book and look forward to more from this author!
If you have ever felt overwhelmed as a mom this is the book for you! April is supposed to be the Calm Mom, according to her Instagram handle, but she is anything but these days. After her husband leaves her and their kids, she is left scrambling to keep everything together and all the kids happy. Thankfully she has Jack (and an awesome village of moms) who is here to help pull herself and her life together.
I loved how relatable all the moms in this book were. I have found myself in countless ridiculous situations as a mom and this book made those easy to laugh at. This is a very sweet book!
Thank you to @entangled_publishing for my advanced copy! This is out on Oct 26th. Also check out @hovlandwrites other Mommy War books, equally hilarious and relatable!
April May Fall is the third book in Christina Hovland's hilarious mom-com series, but it can certainly be enjoyed as a complete stand alone.
I have been loving this series! It is hilarious, has some heat and feels so relatable as a mom. I laughed so much at some of the situations that happen in this book with a "yeah, I've been there too". But besides just being a fun book to read there is the underlying message that we need to be ok with who we are and that we are all doing our best- some days that's being calm and rational while other days its a disaster in the grocery store where swear words fly and that's ok.
April is struggling to keep it all together with her 3 kids after her divorce while also trying to grow her business without imploding it. Enter Jack- the older brother of April's friend Rachel (from Rachel Out of Office) and fixer of all branding problems- as he comes to rebuild April's confidence and put her back on track to where she is supposed to be. These two are total opposites- April is the yoga mom who lives in athletic wear but hasn't had a clean house or all the laundry done in years while Jack is a minimalist who wears expensive suits and hasn't even thought about laundry past having a laundry service that does it all for him. But there is this sweetness to Jack that I absolutely adored. He has done many things to help fix his clients and get them back on top- but he truly goes above and beyond for April. What was supposed to be just fun between the two of them when her kids weren't around/asleep quickly turns into him wanting more but not just with her- he gets his heart attached to her kids as well, creating a bond with them that they don't even share with their father.
This mom/friend group is the best too- they might be nosey and sometimes overbearing but they all have each others backs and give each other the helping hand they need. And as an avid Christina reader I love the little cameos/easter eggs from her Mile High Matched series that are sprinkled in.
This was an ok read. I though it was a little to insta lovey for me but if your into that trope I think you’re going to love this one. I was surprised to find out it was dual pov but then disappointed to see how many chapters Jack had in comparison to April and then how short his chapters were at that. It was obviously very clear the book would be centered around April but I just wanted more of Jacks thoughts and feelings. I enjoyed this book but I can’t really see myself picking it up again or jumping at the chance to recommend it to someone. I did really like the parenting aspect and seeing the tougher sides to being a single mom. April was expected to be this super calm mom who had it all under control when in reality she didn’t and I really appreciated that. My mom is a single mom and it really helped me to empathize with her more and things she has to go through.
thank you to NetGallley for the ARC <3
It thoroughly loved this book.
The writing is fun, and I found myself loving the main characters, especially April. She could be a little bit naive at times, which was frustrating, but in the end, she made a strong character.
Jack was an interesting character and he fit in very well with the overall tone of the story.
It’s a good story about a struggling single Mom trying to do everything on her own. Her kids are a handful and she is juggling the job of an internet influencer. It is crucial that she remains calm no matter what. Because, as they say, practice what you preach. She doesn’t have any other option but to be strong. Unfortunately, when an online live video goes horribly wrong, she has to rely on others for help. Finally, she realizes that just because you can do it all on your own does not mean that you should. Sometimes it is ok to ask for help and to depend on other people for support.
Jack is good at his job and he can help April clean up the mess her viral video made. However, neither of them considers the possibility of being more than fellow workers. Jack doesn’t do relationships, and he is only ok with kids as long as they are not his. But the more time he spends with April and her kids, the more he understands what he is missing in life. Will falling in love be a good idea, or will it ruin their budding friendship?
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I find both April and Jack to be interesting characters. Yet, I felt as if there wasn’t enough romance for a rom-com fan here. The story is more about April’s inner struggles and her capabilities as a mom and a social media influencer. I would have loved if the story was more focused on April and Jack’s relationship.

Oh, I really loved and appreciated this book. Although, I would never be an "Influencer" or someone being in the "Social Media Branding Whirl", I could relate fully to being at times a frustrated loving mom with her hands full.
April May Fall takes a serious look at what a challenge it can be to recover and flourish after experiencing a divorce. Forget the normal type of dealing with this type of loss, add into the mix a new venture of being an influencer on Instagram, signed to be a brand called The Calm Mom, and handle raising three children, each processing the divorce in their own way.
This takes this premise and does it on steroids, the good kind. We have a woman posse looking out for our gal, complete with the required quirky, inappropriate one. All the women are supportive and fit perfectly.
The main thrust is when there is a viral meltdown contrary to the brand, needing to be cleaned up immediately. This brings out the big guns, the main man in charge of rebuilding the necessary confidence to continue on after this incident.
I don't want to give more because I went in with only the blurb and fell hard for our guy and everything else in this story. You have people you will care about, situations you will relate to, and be captivated by all the wonderful encouragement we need to hear.
Loved this.
Single parenting, re-discovery of self and new love.
An enjoyable story featuring yoga guru April whose internet meltdown goes viral, requiring the physical presence of her social influencer team manager. Jack is the perfect man, confident, supportive, sexy and good with her kids but April is not ready to put her trust in a man again, though her kooky friends don’t agree. A good read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
April May Fall is the third book in a series about moms who are trying to make life better. They have so much going on that they are struggling hard, but with solid friendships, new romances, and family (both found and related) - all of these women learn to be better versions of who they are and to reach for help when needed. They find strength in the struggle. April is no different. As a "calm mom" influencer, she has lost herself after a heartbreaking divorce. Her path to confidence and self love is so relatable, that it was almost hard to see on the page. But that raw honesty mixed with humor is what brings Christina Hovland's books to life. It was fun. It was honest. It was so incredibly sweet.
This book was a chaotic one . One moment things were alright and then a whole cyclone, thing were vtoo over the world for me to Handl3 but a humorous contemporary nonetheless.
Welcome to the land and language of frogs, bananas and love - with a little mindful mommy meditation thrown in there too
April May Fall (Mommy Wars Book 3) by Christina Hovland is another fabulous romcom whose heroine is fiercely holding her family and life together by a thread with the support of some really great friends. Life with young children is a challenge on a good day, by life with young children while starting over and building a career? This Mommy, April, deserves a break not to mention support, love and some hot as sin body worshipping! Without at least said break, April will fall. Fall apart that is. It’s up to Jack as to what kind of fall April actually takes and what kind of outcome.
This book is a rip-roaring, hilarious roller coaster as Jack and April navigate the emotional mine field they ultimately find themselves in. Not to mention, never a dull moment when young children are involved. You know that saying ‘Out of the mouths of babes?’ Exactly that. And their actions, along with the family pet!? Total comedy, often to April’s utter embarrassment, but so just like real life of a Mommy.
What romcom could be complete without a busy body? Enter, Kitty. An absolute dynamo who often steals the scenes. She’s outrageously funny and absolutely outspoken, no holds barred about anything! Kitty is a meddler extraordinaire, seeming to bring about feelings that vacillate between appalled and amused, but mostly likely some combination of the two. If there are any more Mommy Wars books, I certainly hope we get more of her antics!
But most importantly, there’s Jack. Totally out of his element in dealing with all that is April and her life, but determined to get everything back on track. His trajectory in the midst of kid chaos is immersed to submerged to complete and total surrender to the ins and outs that is life with young children. It’s sink or swim and Jack becomes an Olympic freestyler with amazing results with April and her kiddos too. Jack provides plenty of comedy himself that will melt your heart. Other times, he heats things up real good for April and steams the stress right out. A real stand up guy even though he swears he’s not relationship material.
Overall, this romcom significantly focuses on April, she’s the mommy in the Mommy Wars after all, but Jack and her kiddos play an important role in helping her see her worth, find her inner peace and recognize what she had all along. The characters are endearing and real, the plot is interesting and fully engaging and the HEA is phenomenal! I loved everything about this book.
I read an ARC of this book via Net Galley and voluntarily share my review.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange of an honest review.
This is a great stand alone book, I enjoyed it.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for my copy of April May Fall by Christina Hovland in exchange for an honest review. It publishes October 26, 2021.
I was initially drawn to this book because of the Instagram Influencer aspect. I just really enjoy reading books with this element. I found April to be a relatable character, and this book is totally readable. The right amount of chaos and sweetness! However, I just wasn't prepared for the R-rated language and the sexual tension.
I felt like it was just too much and that it would've been good to come with a trigger/explicit content warning before getting into this. I understand that I'm much more sensitive than most, but for those who are sensitive, I like to give head's up.
This book is delightful, and if you don't mind R-rated language and descriptive language, and you are looking for a sweet story, you'll really enjoy this! If you're on the sensitive side, just keep in mind that there's some language going on in this.
