A perfectly lovely summer romance that is well written, cleverly plotted and brilliantly serendipitous! Good characters and sweetly romantic. A nice easy read. Recommend.
I enjoyed this one. A chance meeting, serendipity at its best! I didn’t love the whole marry yourself bit, I get it, I just found it a bit cringe, but on the whole a nice easy read with a mostly happy ending albeit a broken family, but that wasn’t the main characters doing! 3.5 stars for me.
The writing was beautiful and the story is really captivating but unfortunately I couldn’t connect with the characters enough to really love this book.
This book was a very easy read, but at some points, a little annoying and predictable. The ending of the book redeemed the story as Cleo's ending completely changed.
I enjoyed meeting all of the characters on Salvation, the little island that Mack and Cleo were on, and the foundation of how their relationship developed.
A great romance to read in the summer! I enjoyed the setting and the characters, plus a lovely plot! Thank you netgalley for the review copy!
Absolutely loved the premise of this book.
The setting is so beautiful and I could really picture it. The writing really invoked clear visions of the pictures it was painting and I very much appreciated that.
Where I fell down was I struggled with Cleo. Her thoughts that someone from America should just go home were so ridiculous and selfish I really struggled to get past that with her. Her moods portrayed her as a temperamental 'woman' and I rarely agreed with her or thought she was even remotely in the right.
Though we did develop with her and by the end of the book I had warmed to her slightly...I never truly rooted for her.
The island itself was very interesting and I very much enjoyed the last few chapters but it was a much too slow start for me.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
After really enjoying A Winter in New York around Christmas, I was excited to pick up another Josie Silver book, and this was another emotionally charged romance that I really enjoyed. I'm not normally the biggest fan of pure enemies-to-lovers, because sometimes it doesn't feel genuine that they can move past their initial hate, but witnessing Cleo and Mack's relationship change felt real to me. The setting of the island and the cast of supporting characters really solidified my enjoyment, as Cleo in particular found a home away from home amongst the locals. Refreshingly, I also found that the third-act breakup felt much more realistic in this than in most other romances - it made sense why they had to separate, as did their level of communication afterwards, and I think that helped to make their reunion feel that much sweeter in the end.
Unfortunately a DNF for me as I couldn't get into Josie's writing. I liked the premise and it's definitely something I can see other people absolutely love! Will definitely try it again one day though as I absolutely loved her other books and it may have just been right book wrong time.
Absolutely loved this emotional and heartwarming story of finding yourself and unexpectedly finding love along the way.
Cleo works for an online magazine where she writes a column about dating. With Mr Right proving elusive and inspired by recent celebrity headlines, her boss has the idea for Cleo to visit a remote island and perform a self-coupling ceremony.
Things start of badly with a rough boat crossing, and get even worse when the accommodation turns out to have been double booked. But Cleo soon falls in love with the island and its inhabitants and learns a lot about herself and what she wants from life.
Cleo is a very likeable and relatable character and I loved following her journey of self-discovery and the blossoming romance.
This book was amazing! I was transported to this island and the people that live there, their friendships and the isolation that makes this place so unique.
A story that kept me guessing, that held all the emotions and kept me turning the pages.
Josie Silver is a must-read author and I highly recommend One Night on the Island!
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
Wow, this book is brilliant. Having enjoyed other books by Josie Silver, I was excited to get to read her new book One Night On The Island. The story follows Cleo and Mack, each chapter alternates between them both. Both unexpectedly having to share Otter Lodge, when they had planned on being alone. All the characters in the book makes you want to be part of the story. It's a shame it's not a real place as it sounded so magical! I loved this book, it made me cry, made me smile and certainly made me laugh. I would love there to be a follow on. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this beautiful book.
I found this a bit unbelievable but still enjoyable. I did find some elements predictable and I wanted more depth of characters. It was a fun read if you want to read a book that doesn't really make you think at all. I've seen lots of great reviews of this, so it might just have been me when I was reading it. Any Josie Silver fans will probably love it.
Love a Jolie silver book. Always romantic, realistic and heart wrenching. Fulfilled every wish. Fabulous characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion
Unfortunately, I did not finish this book. I was not meshing with the characters at all and found myself really not caring what was going to happen, it felt very predictable to me.
However, I have seen a lot of positive reviews so please don't let me put you off!
I have to admit, I would love to have the opportunity to run away and spend some time alone in a cabin on a remote Irish Island, so this book appealed to me! LIke Cleo, I don’t think I would have been as happy with finding out that someone else was also due to stay at the cabin, no matter how easy on the eye they were!
Mac has run away from his life in Boston, which is falling apart, and been given permission to stay at the cabin by a distant family relative.
As neither will leave, they spend time at odds, arguing over who will leave when the ferry arrives. But, as is wont on a remote Irish Island, the weather turns and ensures that they are both stuck there together.
This was fun, light-hearted and an enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
