This was such a lovely, feel good romance.
I was expecting something a lot different from this but ended up so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I loved how Cleo spent her time on the island finding herself and then, ultimately how Mack fit into that life she created. I appreciated that this wasn’t an ‘insta love’ situation and we got to see how true love grew between the pair.
The atmosphere of this was one was perfect, I want to run away and join in her on Salavation Island!
I will 100% be recommending this one to friends to pick up!

When Mac and Chloe, both at low points in their life, are thrown together on a remote island in Ireland, sparks ignite. A mixed up booking, means they are forced to share a tiny cabin, both too stubborn to back down and leave. Tolerance turns to friendship but can romance blossom when they like so far apart.? I loved the slow developing storyline, waiting to see if love would conquer all. I would give it six stars if I could.

I wasn't sure at first how I was going to feel about this book. But I was hooked and loved it.

Refreshing to read a book which looks at relationships and happy ever afters in a different way.

Dating columnist Cleo wants to avoid any big 30th birthday party plans with family and friends in London so she takes off on a sabbatical to a windswept Irish island. Her assignment is to write about her experiences of self-love, which will culminate in a ceremony where she marries herself.
But at the cottage she’s booked into, she finds the owner's relative has also turned up for a prolonged stay. Mack is a photographer from Boston whose marriage has crumbled and he is searching for his roots.
Initially butting heads and hoping the other will get the next boat out, the tensions between Cleo and Mack start to thaw out and yada, yada, yada, you know the rest of the drill.
Although you may have to suspend belief that a magazine writer would get such free rein on a long expenses-paid assignment like this, the story itself was a touching one about self-discovery. Read it for its slow-burn romance, moody setting and colourful cast of islanders.

This is the first Josie Silver book I’ve read and it definitely won’t be my last. I wasn’t immediately grabbed at the beginning but it didn’t take long at all before I became charmed by the story.

Romance novels aren’t usually my go-to genre, I’ve found many of the ones I’ve read cringey and unrealistic so for me to enjoy one, it needs to be relatable, humorous and have other elements to it - One Night On The Island absolutely fit the bill for me. It’s full of emotion and beautifully written moments and has a warm and lovable cast of characters.

Thanks to Penguin General UK and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Two people. A chance encounter. A love story that will last a lifetime."

This is a romantic book but it was quite an emotional and difficult read. I enjoyed it but not as much as Josie's others.

This book is a wonderful feel good romance and I was completely engrossed in it from the onset. The remote setting is brilliant as are the wonderful characters on the island. It’s warm, heartfelt and hopelessly romantic and it is as beautifully written as the author’s previous novel ‘One Day in December’.

Mack and Cleo are great together, I loved their connection and the slow burn build up of their relationship. I was unsure how this long distance relationship would pan out, but the compromise at the end is the perfect solution. These two are quite complex characters Mack is trying to pick up the pieces of a broken family life and the love for his sons is adorable. I am unsure if I liked the ‘self-coupling’/marrying oneself concept, however it did suit Cleo’s personality on her journey of self discovery and her little wedding ceremony on the beach is quite moving. The islanders are quirky and endearing, I loved the knit group at the community centre and the pub where everyone gathers for gossip and laughter.

The beautiful austere atmosphere and remote island setting clinched it for me. I loved the cosy cabin vibes set against the wet, wild and windy coastline. Dolphin and otter watching from the porch whilst drinking hot chocolate sounds just perfect. Forced to share with a Hans Solo lookalike can’t be that bad either. Perfectly executed and well written One Night on the Island is definitely a book romance fans need to add to their reading list.

Thank you to the publisher for the eARC (and gifted paperback) in exchange for an honest review.

I love this author and this book sounded perfect so I was excited to read it. Cleo Wilder writes as a dating columnist for Women Today magazine. Encouraged by her editor, and inspired by actress Emma Watson, Cleo plans to celebrate her 30th birthday on a remote Irish island, embracing the concept of self coupling - basically marrying yourself because you don't need a partner to become whole! This was a concept I'd not heard of before, but like Cleo I was willing to embrace the idea and carry on through with her story, even though I have to admit I did find the concept a bit strange!! I needn't have worried though, whilst confused at the beginning, as the story continued I began to understand the ideas behind it.

What was meant as a break from life, relationships...well everything!, it turns out to be a nightmare when Cleo finds herself sharing the only available cottage, after it had been double booked, with Mack Sullivan. Mack is an American photographer who has booked himself some time out on his ancestral island home following marriage problems. I loved each character equally, but the feeling obviously wasn't mutual between them as they seemed to get off on the wrong foot straight away. It's no surprise though when they both expected to be alone, but I loved how they tried to find ways to live together until one of them was able to leave

The location of the book was amazing, and as I read I could picture a rough, craggy island, with a small village and a view to due for. Salvation Island initially sounded like somewhere I wouldn't be able to cope with, but as the book moved on you got to realise what a fabulous community this little island has, and perhaps you don't always need the materialistic things in life when you have good friendships and the love of a good person.

To me, this was a good old fashioned love story. Yes, I didn't quite understand some of the ideas behind self coupling, but Cleo and Mack's storyline made my heart go pitter-patter everytime they were together. They both had their flaws with their messed up lives, but together their storylines worked really well.

I loved this book, as I knew I would, and once started I couldn't put it down. There were plenty of moments which made me smile, cry and made my heart burst with love. A completely original idea, which was captivating in so many ways. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

So, Josie Silver is an author I have read before and really enjoyed. I had to look twice at the book cover as it looks just like her previous book, and I was slightly confused as too if I had read it before. However, since I have added it to my currently reading list on Goodreads, I noticed a new cover has been published which is much more pleasing to the eye.

Dating columnist Cleo is turning 30 dreading having to attend her own surprise party, her life isn't quite where she thought it would as this birthday approaches, so she decides to take her boss and close friend Ali up on her offer of researching an article on self coupling, in Ireland. When she turns up to her accommodation on Salvation Island she realises it has been double booked and one of the owners is in residence.

For me this book was just ok, it as described as a rom-com, set in a lovely location, and who doesn't want to go for a trip to Ireland? it always sounds so remote and wildly romantic. But for me personally this book was just missing something. I don't know if it is because I have read quite a few romances lately, that I have just enjoyed them more. I just didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I thought I would...

I think I am having a hard time with Mac our MC, who is still married in the book and has two children. Whilst he and his wife have been separated for a while, he still seems to be very much in love with her and hoping for a reconciliation, them all of a sudden he is sleeping and falling for someone else. I think if I had been in Clio's shoes I would have backed off and let Jack and his family work things out. I think this keep me from investing in the characters more.

I loved One day in December but, this one just didn’t do it for me and I really didn’t enjoy it. It was such hard-going that I really didn’t want to finish it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This what such an anticipated read of mine since I read and absolutely loved One Day In December. But honestly, because my expectations were quite high, I didn't enjoy this one as much. However, it was quite an emotional read and it is a book about the ability to love yourself for who you are.

I am so sorry but I found this book an absolute slog - normally I can read one or two books a week, but this one didn't capture my heart and I didn't actually look forward to picking it up and reading it.

I was looking forward to it, as it was set on an Irish island on the Atlantic coast and that's where my family are from but even that annoyed me!!! So much of the story happened on the porch drinking whisky and gazing up at the stars or eating a picnic - on the Wild Atlantic coastline in October? Ha ha! I don't think so - it would be misty, bleak and grey with waves crashing the shore - if you do get good weather in October, it would forever go down in Irish history, as even their summers aren't that good!!!

I really adored some of the characters especially Delta who I really warmed to, but I didn't feel that Raff featured enough in the story for me to be emotionally involved in him - whereas the women in the knitting circle...I felt I knew more about them.

You know how it's going to end- but that's not a bad thing, and to be honest, if that didn't happen that way we would all be disappointed and march to the publishers offices in disgust, but it was still a lovely ending and not cliched.

I am so so sorry that there are negative touches to this review but I have to be honest.

Cleo lives in London and is trying to find her Mr Right. In fact she has a magazine column all about her search. Mack lives in Boston but after separating from his wife is lost. After a mix up with bookings, they find themselves on a remote Irish island sharing a one room cabin and neither is prepared to leave.

After a slow start where I really couldn’t see where this book was going, I found myself really enjoying it. Funny, sad and highly entertaining. You need to discover who you are before you can discover the one.

I requested this from NetGalley as an E-Arc as I loved the previous book “One day in December” by the same author.
Unfortunately this one just didn’t have the same effect. I got to about 33% and really struggled to stay interested. I have an idea of where the book will go and did not finish it.
Two strangers end up sharing a cabin on a remote island when they both wanted the very opposite, to be alone, for different reasons. At first they don’t get along and try to convince each other to leave but with nowhere else to stay on the island and one boat a week back to mainland, they are stuck with each other. I stopped reading as they started to get on and an inkling of a romance started.

I fell in love with this book immediately! Forced to stay together on the island's only lodge after a mix up in the booking (fate?) Cleo and Mack are forced to learn to live together and accomplish their personal goals for visiting the remote island. I absolutely loved the development of the friendships, life, death and romance that blooms not always with the most likely character! A brilliant read I didn't want to put down.

This is a story of 2 strangers in a remote Irish village seeking solitude. Following a mix up of bookings they both end up reluctantly sharing the only accommodation available, a cabin on the beach. Cleo is a journalist. Mack is a married but separated Father of 2 boys. Neither are happy at being thrown together in this way and at first there is much animosity. The only way off the Island is a weekly boat but the weather and rough sea make this sometimes impossible. Mack loves photography and spends most of his time discovering his ancesters roots to the Island. Cleo joins a knitting group and makes many friends and is reluctant to leave. I enjoyed this book and would thoroughly recommend it.

Cleo is a column writer for a woman's magazine writing about her dating experiences in her quest to find he ideal man.
Cleo's boss has arranged for her to go to a remote island off the coast of Ireland to self couple, a concept made popular by Emma Watson for her 30th birthday.
The island is not one to be frequented by visitors so when Cleo arrives to find the compact cottage she expected to stay in has been double booked by Han Solo but stubborn look alike Mack, what is a girl to do? Unfortunately neither has much choice as there is no where for either of them to stay and a storm is coming approaching.
Even when the weather isn't blowing a hurricane, the boat that brought them to the island only arrives once a week unless it's an emergency. So it looks like they are stuck with one another's company.
Cleo each go off exploring the island for their own ends, Cleo to find contentment in self love and Mack to photograph the island and it's inhabitants of the island from where his grandmother came from for his upcoming exhibition back in Boston.
They each fall in love with the island Salvation and its inhabitants and who can blame them? They are colourful, kind, welcoming and non judgemental with a very pregnant single mother to be and LGBTQ+ so name just a few.
Despite the close proximity in Otter Lodge, Cleo and Mack continue about their business until the sexual tension gets the better of them.
They embark on a 'microlove' knowing that each will return to their lives once they leave Salvation.
Will they be able to leave and what happens when they do?
This book is about more than just a romance. It's about self exploration, falling in love, friendship, sisterhood, heartbreak, death and new life.
Ideal for readers of Romance/Women's Fiction.

Josie silver has done it again…a beautiful book about love, life choices and understanding what is important.

The characters of this book are all so likeable and relatable. Cleo is a journalist who would really love to be a novelist but has never quite been brave enough to write her book. She is sent to “self couple” for her thirtieth birthday on a remote island.

Cleo finds way more than she was bargaining for and the story takes off and captures your heart. I went through so many emotions during this book.

Whether you agree with all the choices or not, Cleo certainly teaches us to do what is right for us.

This book wasn't quite what I expected and I'm yet to decide whether that is a good or bad thing. The first half of this story felt dull and like I couldn't connect with the characters but somehow at around 60% I felt a switch. I started to see and feel more depth after this point and the book became much more enjoyable.

I love the notion of escaping to an island with a minute population and creating a day to day life there (it sounds like the kind of place you can read a lot!) and that was a big positive for this one. If you're looking for a winter escape and like enemies to lovers vibes then this would be a strong contender to pick up.

Having read and absolutely loved Josie Silver’s previous two books, I knew that I wanted to read this latest book.
As it happens I really loved this book.

I thought it was quite a quaint premise to bring a columnist to a remote island as she is about to turn 30. Cleo Wilder writes a dating column for a magazine called Women Today. She’s trying to find her flamingo (the name of her column, as flamingos mate for life), but it is proving to be a difficult task. So she sets out to marry herself for her next birthday.

However things don’t go to plan as there is someone else supposedly staying in the cottage Cleo believes she has rented. Enter Mack Sullivan, a dashing American in a large red coat.

They don’t like one another to begin with, cue a divisional chalk line to divide the cottage; but things change as they get to know one another better.

Mack has split up from his wife but is rather missing his two sons. How long will they both stay on the island?
The book switches between Cleo’s perspective and Mack’s and I always like this touch. Mack has a family history link to the island. He’s a photographer and intends to document his stay with images so he can exhibit them once he returns to Boston.

This is just my sort of read, hard to put down once started.
