Having read her previous book, One Day In December, I feel like this book is very Josie Silver! Complex characters. Complicated situations. Alternating POVs to show the growing connection between the main characters. Josie Silver certainly has a formula, and it works well in this book, too.

While I didn’t like Jack, one of the MC in One Day In December, I really liked Mack in this book. So that makes this new release much better for me than ODID😂 Makes a huge difference!

But what I loved most about this book is the ending. So realistic and open. Leaves a lot to readers to imagine. Maybe this is where opinions on this book polarises, but for me, it was perfect!

I read this book really quickly and found myself falling in love with the island. I really found myself transported to the wild, remote community made up of some very likeable characters. Cleo and Mack did seem like an unlikely match to begin with but their paths naturally crossed. One Day in December is still my favourite book by Josie Silver but this was still very enjoyable.

This was a good read for me.
If you enjoy woman's fiction then you will definitely enjoy this. It has a strong 'Eat, pray, love' theme throughout. The romance in this story definitely takes a backseat.

The author did a fantastic job in creating the atmosphere of this cold, almost untouched island off the coast of Ireland. I thoroughly enjoyed the community aspect and the strong bonds that formed between the various characters.

I did not enjoy the romance at all. I don't see how the hero can start off by being 100% committed to his (separated) wife and then do a complete 180 when he finds out she has moved on. All of a sudden he is emotionally available for a holiday romance which they both know is more. That to me screams rebound.

This story is honest, raw and warming. Having chosen self-love, we are taken on a journey of self discovery with both laughs and tears!

3a) Knitting

I loved this book! A well-written easy romance that left me feeling warm inside. Cleo is a magazine writer with a column about finding love (or not). She is spending her 30th birthday on a remote island with only herself for company. Or so she thought. Enter Mack. A photographer who is also planning on spending some time alone. In reality they are double booked in the same cabin, with no other accommodation options. While the plot is predictable I found myself really willing the characters to unite and overcome their individual obstacles. Overall the characters are extremely likeable and their romance is perfectly written.

Took a long time for me to get in to this book but I did enjoy it, although not as much as One Day in December. I look forward to more from Josie Silver.

I loved this book, it is the perfect romance book, an easy, light read, but at the same time the relationship between the 2 main characters was so engaging. Their great love grew from a mutual dislike for each other, their first meeting couldn't have been worse, and from that moment I was hooked!

The book also contained a great message, to be a strong woman not defined by a man, or by being in a long term relationship hit the right spot for me. I think its empowering but also realistic that love plays a role in a fulfilling life for some people, myself included, but not for all and it was nice to see this being explored. I loved the ending a perfect mix for all involved. Great book to start the new year thank you!

Loved this book - it was the perfect balm to dark and dismal, depressing days. Loved it.
Pure escapist literature which I found somewhat believeable and unpredictable at times. I've given it 4/5 on Goodreads.

In many ways this is such an easy review to write because I absolutely loved this book! The characters, the island and its people, the harsh dramatic scenery, the subtle changes that take place as strangers Mack and Cleo, thrown together by a mix up in their holiday home booking, move from suspicion and dislike to getting to know and care about each other. It is a coming of age novel for thirty year olds, if that makes sense. What if the things you have, and what you thought you were looking for, turn out not to be enough? I adored the confessions in the dark, where Mack and Cleo reveal small random snippets about themselves to each other from opposite sides of the room and later from opposite sides of the Atlantic. Being on the island teaches Cleo so much about herself and I felt I was with her every step of the way. The ending is perfectly understated and exactly right.

Unfortunately I found this novel difficult to get through. I kept putting it down and picking it up to try again. I thoroughly enjoyed Josie Silver’s two previous novels but I found this one hard going. I found the protagonist, Cleo, a difficult character to like. I will still try with any forthcoming novels from Josie Silver, as she is an interesting novelist. Thanks to Penguin General UK - Fig Tree, Hamish Hamilton, Viking, Penguin Life, Penguin Business and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel

What a beautiful book. This book is based on Cleo who is turning thirty and her self love discovery. This book follows a journey of loving yourself to allow others to love you too. Mack is a perfect leading man in this novel, he made you want to fall in love. He's so thoughtful, appreciative and a devoted family man.

This book is based on a small island off the coast of Ireland and it includes an amazing community that everyone needs in their lives. The extended family dynamic made you want to grab a cup of tea and join in the gossiping. As a reader I felt so emotions throughout this book, it made me want to laugh, cry and fall in love all in the space of 400 pages. Josie silver is an amazing author and his book did not disappoint, if you loved her previous books you need to add this book to your tbr list

4 stars

This book was an emotional rollercoaster. Mack and Chloe try desperately to find their way through life. When they take a much-needed break, the last thing these two strangers expect is to both find themselves booked into the same cabin. After much debate, Mack and Chloe, agree to both stay and sort their lives out.

Not only are these characters very real, but they are also completely relatable and I couldn't help but feel for them. Their vulnerability jumped from the pages and I was completely captivated by it. I loved the emotional journey they both went on, I will admit there were a few lines crossed that I didn't 100% agree with but I think the vulnerability sold their actions to me.

I loved the environment in which Josie Silver's created. The secondary characters added a bonus to the story.

Overall I enjoyed this dual POV romance.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, Penguin UK and VikingBooksUk for a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ireland, Romance, Self-Discovery. This book has absolutely everything I need in a story and it's my favorite Josie Silver novel so far!

Cleo Wilder is a romance columnist for popular women's website, but she hasn't had much luck when it comes to finding romance in London...or 'finding her flamingo', as her column is called. So her boss decides to mix things up and sends her to a remote Irish island to marry herself.

But when she arrives to the cabin she's booked for her trip, there's somebody already there - Mack Sullivan, an American photographer looking for a break from his own complicated life.

Two people, one cabin. And so the story begins!

This book contains romance, but it contains so much more than that. There is friendship, sisterhood, self-discovery, and that warm, fuzzy feeling I associate with Ireland. I didn't want to put it down and I don't think I'll forget this cast of characters for awhile.

I really loved this book. Well written, with great characters and a wonderful feel good factor. I felt as though I would like to spend time on the island as I knew the locals so well. Thoroughly recommended.

I did enjoy this, although it definitely wasn't the frothy holiday read I was expecting! It's slow in places but very well written, with rich setting and depth of character throughout.

One Night on the Island has been my introduction to the work of Josie Silver.
Having read the blurb, I was expecting the ‘stuck in one room’ trope – woman and man find themselves stuck together in close quarters, initial annoyance leads to insta-lust, some petty conflict and then we have the HEA. I figured I would finish the book on one long-haul flight and do a quick, perky review.
However, One Night on the Island was not what I was expecting – and I mean that in the best possible way. I finally finished the book last night, one month after starting to read it. There were lots of stops and starts, some (but definitely not all) of which can be blamed on the holidays. Whilst it certainly fulfils the requirements of a romance - two attractive and likeable leads, funny supporting characters, some banter, some steam – there is more here. This is a thoughtful work about being both more honest as well as gentle with ourselves, told through the personal journeys of Cleo Wilder and Mack Sullivan. It is also a grown-up book, where the main characters have genuine obstacles like distance and other relatable life circumstances to overcome, and there aren’t always traditional solutions.
The book is filled with poetic phrases and images that had me smile (and sometimes tear up) – little gems that I would have missed if I had read it too quickly. Whilst the story is told through both their POVs, it feels more like Cleo’s story when it ends – maybe because she has the last word. I wasn’t even sure I fully liked Cleo when I started reading the story, but by the middle, I was cheering for her and Mack. Funnily enough, even more than wanting for them to “get together already”, I was rooting for them to find happiness whether together or apart. Don’t worry, If you are a romance fan like me and want happy endings, know that this book ends with the main characters finding their happy…that’s not something you would consider a spoiler, is it?
So let me end this review by borrowing from a cute game that Cleo and Mack play, and summarising my thoughts in three points:
1. I loved this book – definitely read it.
2. It can feel slow at times. This is a “stop and actually pay attention to the words and feelings on the page” kind of book.
3. I am looking forward to more from Josie Silver.

#BookReview ✨ One Night on the Island by Josie Silver 📖⠀

🌟My heart is brimming, I absolutely loved it!⠀
🌟A marvelous mix of friendship, romance, family & love... it feels you with that warm fuzzy cosy feeling.⠀
🌟The descriptions of the island are pitch perfect, idyllic & breath taking you are easily transported from your cosy reading spot to Salvation Island.⠀
🌟Whilst you can probably guess the ending, the journey is an epic, meaningful & thought-provoking one.⠀
🌟 It's funny romantic & oh so much more... Silver has exceeded my lofty expectations again & stolen a piece of my heart with it.⠀

In the spirit of book here are three things about me...⠀
1) I have two book related tattoos (& about 18 more 🤭).⠀
2) The first ever CD I purchased was an S Club 7 one.⠀
3) The only Harry Potter books I've read are 2 & 7 (don't hate me!)⠀
I'd love you to tell me 3 things about you?

Josie you wrote a winner! One Night on the Island is such a mix - friendship, romance, family, love, life & all its ups & downs. Certain scenes just resonated - particularly those that focus on the island women & their companionship. As Cleo explores what it is to be alone not lonely this is one of those books that has you doing that tight, satisfied smile as you swallow past the lump in your throat. I loved it!
