A funny rom-com set in an island in the middle of nowhere. The romance between Cleo, nearing her thirtieth birthday and feeling lost and Mack, newly separated from his wife and unsure what to do next. I like the themes of starting again and listening to your heart (which often goes against the most 'logical' solution).
A nice read and would recommend for fans of rom-coms.

Josie Silver is becoming an auto-buy author for me despite only writing a few books. I love her style of writing and the beautiful stories she produces.
We begin by following Cleo to a remote island on a self-devotion work assignment, which quickly becomes a disaster when it’s not quite secluded enough. After that, Cleo continues her journey of self-discovery and self-love, which is heart-warming in itself – especially the ‘wedding’ scenes. Still, there is a lot about relationships, love, micro love (which I love), sisterhood and fatherhood as well.
This is a natural feel-good island, welcoming al full of love with an incredible community, you’ll want to visit yourself before the end of the book!
The two main characters, Cleo and Mack, are both perfectly flawed. Both can be a little grumpy (can’t we all and especially in their situation) but also sweet and loveable. The whole book is full of loveable, kind, caring characters, though, aside from Mack’s ex-wife, whom I didn’t warm to at all.
I loved the ending; it wasn’t quite what I was expecting and didn’t happen as I thought it would or when I thought it would, but it was brilliant.
Overall, I loved this book. Josie Silver has an excellent talent for romance, which is another example of that. It’s an uplifting story full of emotion that feels like a big, warm hug on a cold day.
Heart-warming, this speaks to everyone in a relationship or not; romance is for everyone.

A very thought provoking read. It was an enjoyable read to follow Cleo trying to find herself and learning how to live her life in a way that suits her. An unconventional ending but one that seems appropriate for all concerned. You don’t always have to follow the rules!

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for an dvanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
'One Night on the Island' is about Cleo and Mack, two strangers are forced to stay at the same cabin on a remote island due to a mix up with their bookings, What follows is an inevitable romance between the two main characters, which unfolds over the span of a number of weeks (the title is very misleading).
While this book has multiple romantic elements, Cleo and Mack's relationship was perhaps my least favourite part of the story. Cleo and Mack themselves were also a bit underwhelming - I found Cleo whiny and entitled, while Mack was almost too perfect. It didn't feel like there was a natural build-up to their holiday romance, apart from the fact that they were stuck together in the same house. I much preferred the introduction of the larger cast of characters and the emphasis on sisterhood and fatherhood.
Overall, it was a nice story but was at times cliched and a bit too corny for my personal taste.

I have loved Josie Silver’s first two books so jumped at the chance to read and review an early copy of her latest book One Night on the Island. Thanks to the publisher, the author and Net Galley for a copy of the book for an open and honest review.
At first I wasn’t sure about this book, but who was I to doubt Josie Silver, as this book soon got its tentacles into me and it would just not let me go. This is a book, and story, that leads to a whole gamut of emotions and do be sure to have a tissue on hand when you read it. It starts off with Chloe heading off to a Remote island to marry and dedicate herself to herself, but this soon leads onto a voyage of discovery for her.
Of course there is a man around, the redoubtable American, Mack. He also needs some time to himself to recover from a year long separation from his wife. They are both looking for some solitude for their own reasons but unfortunately this isn’t what they get as due to a mistake they are both booked into a single room occupation at the same time.
This leads to great confrontation at first but feelings change as time goes on. I loved spending time with both Chloe and Mack as they go on a voyage of discovery. I also loved the island setting, which was like a character of its own, and the wonderful characters you got to know on the island, I want to go on holiday to Salvation Island!
This isn’t exactly your conventional Rom Com, and halfway through the book you wrote wonder how this will be resolved, and it is not till the end of the book you really know the answer to this. I have to say I loved reading this book, and recommend it unreservedly to others. I will be the first in the queue for Josie Silver’s next book, she is a remarkable talent!

I absolutely loved this book. Every single delicious page of it. I've been a massive Josie Silver fan ever since I picked up One Day in December a few years ago and fell in love with the characters that Silver is able to create and weave into your heart and she's done it again this time with One Night on the Island.
Jaded by her busy life in London, Cleo finds herself in Salvation, a tiny island off the Irish coast. Technically there for work as a magazine columnist, in reality she's looking down the barrel of 30 (I wish!) and needs to make some big decisions about what her next step will be. What she wasn't expecting with the big American who lands on her doorstep thanks to a double booking and misunderstanding. What follows changed both Cleo and Mack forever.
This book was everything I wanted and I loved that self love, friendship and empowerment featured so heavily in Cleo's story. Where the main character is looking to love and accept herself as a whole rather than waiting for her other half. I loved the concept so much I must admit to being a little disappointed when romantic love raised it's head but to be honest, by then Silver had me so in love with them both as characters I simply didn't care anymore.
Needless to say I love love LOVED this book and think that everyone should pick up a Josie Silver book and fall in love with her characters in the same way I do.

This book is like a huge envelope of love ready to read on a winters evening. Cleo, the main character, is a strong ( but soft around the edges) female lead and the other islanders you’re perfect neighbours.

Cleo writes about love stories every day. She just isn't living one of her own.
When the editor of her dating column asks her to marry herself on a remote Irish island - a sensational piece to mark Cleo's thirtieth birthday - Cleo agrees. She's alone but not lonely, right? She can handle a solo adventure.
Cleo arrives at her luxury cabin to find a tall, dark, stubborn American who insists it's actually his. Mack refuses to leave, and Cleo won't budge either. With a storm fast approaching, they reluctantly hunker down together. It's just one night, after all .
Great story emotional and draws you in and keeps you wanting to read more to see how it ends.

This was a sweet romance with a nice concept. The writing was wonderfully descriptive and very evocative. I found parts of it a bit tropey but they were well done.
I'd definitely recommend this.

Absolutely loved this book. Its a bit of a weepy one. Loved the plot and thought the characters worked very well. I loved the ending it was well worked and not rushed.

Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy of this book, I was delighted to be approved as I loved the authors previous book ‘One Day in December’.
I enjoyed this new book by the author and really liked the concept of going to a remote island. I felt like I didn’t really connect with the characters though and felt like I wasn’t rooting for them like I did the characters in her previous book. I think I was spoilt by her previous book. Overall I did enjoy One Night on the Island but wanted to love it more. I will definitely read further books by this author though.

Another great romance from Josie Silver that will make you laugh out loud, smile and possibly even cry.

Well done Jodie Silver!!
You gave me all the feels plus more. I did know want this book to end as I didn't want to leave this beautiful world. It played out like a movie in my head!!

Exceptional! I just loved this story, the characters and the setting. So much warmth, love, friendship and connection. I laughed out loud and cried more than once. Beautifully written and so atmospheric- I felt I was there along with the islanders! Highly, highly recommended.

Arghhh - I loved this. Reading the blurb it would be easy to dismiss as typical Rom-Com (nothing wrong with Rom-Com just not generally my bag) but it was just so beautiful. What made it work so well for me was the descriptions. Whilst I think it would make a great film, seeing it on screen would probably ruin it for me. I know exactly what Otter's Lodge looks likein my head, I can picture most parts of the Island, the boulder and the views and even the village hall for the knitting group...and I have a very firm idea of what Mack looks like and I don't need that messing with!
It is just a perfect warm hug of a book. Highly recommend.

What a fabulous story!! One Night on the Island is a must-read and let me tell you why….
I got quite a surprise reading this story in all honesty. There I was enjoying getting to know Cleo and Mack – loving their interactions and also finding learning their backstories interesting and intriguing, when WHAM, I suddenly realised I had tears streaming down my face. This couple had sneakily worked their way into my heart and once their story took a different direction, I instantly knew that not only had I developed a connection with them both but I was also 100% invested in their journeys.
Mack and Cleo’s story isn’t one to be rushed and I am so pleased that the author wrote it at a pace that fitted their circumstances perfectly. I adore Mack and Cleo. They each arrive on the island of Salvation for very different personal reasons - which made fabulous reading and was thought-provoking too. I absolutely loved witnessing the changes in their relationship and by the end of the book seeing how much being on Salvation allowed them to grow individually also.
It’s not only Mack and Cleo that make this story what it is, the residents of Salvation need a huge mention too. Each and every one of them added so much to the storyline. They all have a special place in my heart and I don’t think I would ever wish to leave the island if I found myself included as a part of their clan.
There was nothing I disliked about this story. I laughed at the humour, cried when the emotions got the better of me, and held my breath during a few scenes whilst I waited to see how the story would unfold. The settings throughout were described beautifully… I could picture it all perfectly.
I couldn’t have asked for a more fitting ending to Mack and Cleo’s story. This book from start to finish has been wonderfully penned. It is no surprise that I award One Night on the Island 5 stars. I cannot wait for more from Josie Silver.

This is a lovely gentle story , Although it was quite predictable, that didnt spoil it at all. Well worth a read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC

Don’t think this is your usual rom-com! It’s so much more than that. It’s raw and honest and heartwarming. I even can’t put into words what this story did to me.
Cleo is turning thirty without a significant other and visits a small Irish island to be significantly alone. She’s going to marry herself because she’s enough already, alone but not lonely. Mack was married with two kids when he turned thirty, and now at thirty-five, he’s screwed up, not sure about a lot of things anymore, and visiting the island as well, looking for his roots.
One Night on the Island is about two messed-up people and what they need in life. I loved the descriptive and sometimes even lyrical writing. I loved the only one-bed trope, or more precisely, the one-room trope (think of an imaginary line in the middle). I loved their ‘three things’ conversations in the dark. I loved the sisterhood on the island, all those different women who had solidarity and kinship instilled into their bones. I loved Mack, such a great dad, and I loved to read a male’s point of view in a straight rom-com. I loved to immerse myself in those characters with all their flaws and imperfections who felt so incredibly real. And finally, I loved that ending, so fitting for this not your usual rom-com.
This book was so much better than I initially thought it would be. The more I read, the more I was invested in Cleo’s and Mack’s story. They had so much doubt and hesitation, just like we all have in life, and their struggles were so genuine. Once in a while, I got this feeling in my chest and my stomach when I found another layer in this wonderful book, and at those moments, I got lumps in my throat, swallowing got difficult, and I cried—beautiful, ugly tears.
There’s one thing, though, that could put readers off. Without giving too much away, it’s got something to do with cheating. I saw one and two-star ratings because of this topic, and even though I believe the story is beautifully nuanced, if cheating really is a red flag for you, if there’s no grey for you when it comes to this topic, please, think twice. Because then this might not be the book for you. For all the others who love a rom-com that colors outside the usual lines, that’s moving and raw and teaches us so much about self-acceptance, please read this incredible story!

➡️for synopsis
After enjoying #OneDayInDecember I was looking forward to this the latest instalment from #JosieSilver.
So I really did enjoy this one for three quarters of the book; the characters were well developed, relatable and their stories interesting. The books setting sang to my heart - set by the sea, solitude and warm nights by the fire - Silver does a great job of describing the location and incorporating the other island residents into the plot and they really made the book for me. The splitting of the narration between the two main characters I also really enjoyed.
I found it a none complicated easy read. It demanded very little brain power and was perfect for my sleep deprived brain. I was surprised to find a story about very little to be so entertaining, up until the last quarter that is.
This book just went on a little too long. Books like this are predictable and that’s fine, expected and wanted if your choosing to go to read this genre, but it does mean, for me anyway, that they can’t be over egged. The plot can go from being nice and enjoyable to dragged out and boring very quickly I find with this type of read, and that’s what happened here. The ending was so slow coming that I really was getting to the point of skipping - I knew the ending I just wanted to get there! I thought it was a shame that it ended on such a note.
Saying this, overall it was an enjoyable and nice read that’s definitely worth reading. It’s a lovely story, that does employ some originality and is a completed (eventually) satisfactorily at the end.
With thanks to #netgalley author #josiesilver and #penguinbooks for allowing me to read this one very early!

If you want a feel-good read but also have a good blub, this is the novel for you.
A love story but not what you are expecting. The characters start fairly usual, a writer and a photographer meet on a small Irish island. They've both booked the same lodge for an indeterminate period of time. There is only one rental on the island, and the boat only comes once a week, weather permitting. What to do, when both are there seeking solitude?
The island, thought starting out rather like Craggy Island of Father Ted fame, becomes something warmer and and more spirited, populated by kind souls who take the misfits to their hearts.
A feminist book to an extent, Cleo is trying to find herself on the eve of her thirtieth birthday, she isn't looking for romance, has given up on it until she learns how to love herself. And then there's Mack, fleeing from the pain of a broken marriage, knowing he has to go back, however much is hurts, because of his two sons. Two broken people.
I cried at several points in the narrative. Josie Silver portrays the pain of both so carefully, so viscerally, and she paints a multi-faceted view of a failed marriage that manages to avoid cliche, but feels very real.
Loved it.
