I was really excited to read this book as I had read the previous One Day in December and loved it.
The book while capturing the community feel of a small island also explores the different issues that face people in their relationships as adults.
Cleo is a successful online columnist but has lost herself a little, living in the city and the merry go round of dating. Mack is a photographer and in the middle of a family crisis. Both are looking for some solace on a remote island but find out the property they have rented is double booked. What starts as an annoyance, turns to friendship and then more between the two. The characters that live on the island and the landscape add to the heart warming feeling of this book and help the two on their journeys of self discovery and healing.
The books is written in dual POV and I think the author did very well in capturing the male voice and their feelings when relationships breakdown. It was well written and i would recommend this book.

I’ve not read any other Josie Silver books before, so I wanted to see what the fuss was all about!

The idea is original, the characters relatable and there’s a good dose of humour and a sprinkle of steamy romantic scenes.

All in all, a very readable book, but nothing super special.

I loved the idea of the book - going away to an island and just finding yourself with no outside influences. The author painted the beauty and remoteness of the island and made me want to visit. Disconnecting from the outside world once in a while helps reset yourself and it shone through in the story while having to live along side a complete stranger!

Lovely book.

Well written and pulls at your heart strings,

I like when books evoke emotion and this one is a perfect example. Not your typical romantic comedy, the characters are relatable and well developed and the book has depth.

One day in December is one of my favourite books so I knew I had to snap this one up as soon as I saw it here on netgalley. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a nice romance novel.
Although a little predictable in some areas but I thought it had a great
message and I truly cared about all of the characters. I think we all
need a piece of Salvation Island. A great book especially when you
are looking for a little escape from the real world.

This is a story about Cleo, and the strong, interesting women who befriend her on the island, inspiring her to change her life completely.
Beautifully written, I was sad when I finished reading it, as I missed the island, its people and the countryside!
It was so lovely to have the story from both sides, showing men’s vulnerability as well.
And I loved Cleo’s mum, Helen, it’s so unusual to read a believable, normal, modern mother-daughter relationship in a book.

Inspiring and delightful.

I'm not usually a fan of romance novels but this was the exception. I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning and found myself wishing that i could visit Salvation island to get away from everything. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Loved previous Josie Silver books- lovely warm characters - gives a great impression of life on a wild remote island. Probably predictable where the story between main 2 characters would end up !!! But loved the journey. Descriptions of islanders and scenery was very effective.

“Three - I don’t regret you.”

Book review - One Night on the Island, Josie Silver.

What a romance book to tug at your heart strings! It was so refreshing and heartwarming. A beautiful, peaceful setting and a steamy holiday romance - what more could you want?

Cleo and Mack are outraged to find that the owner has double booked Otter Lodge and they are stuck in each other’s presence. Mack, who has came to solitary to fix his broken heart, just wants to photograph the surroundings and get in touch with his heritage. Cleo, who came to the island for a metaphorical marriage to herself as a way of showing everyone you don’t need a man at 30, is here to write her articles for the magazine. Both of them do not want to be in each other’s company so agree to stay on different sides of the lodge and act as room mates.

Life on a remote island, however, has different plans for the pair. Cleo and Mack start taking pleasure in sharing their 3 nightly facts and they begin to open their lives and hearts to one another, piece by piece.

Add this to the pile of books that are currently making my opinion of the romance genre drastically improve. Around a year ago, you wouldn’t see me dead with a romance book (too cheesy I’d say). I absolutely adored this. From the island life, to the romance and character development in between, it was perfect! I absolutely, whole-heartedly fell in love with the Mack-Cleo enemies to lovers relationship.

Along with this, the islanders! Imagine being part of such a wonderful community. I’ve never seen myself as much of a knitter but I’d swap my wifi for a pair of knitting needles any day to have friends like those! They were just amazing!

The whole story was incredibly refreshing. A true comfort story to snuggle up with and a well deserved 5*s from me. I enjoyed every minute of reading it. From the setting descriptions of the beautiful island, to learning the back stories of Mack and Cleo’s lives. It was my first book from the author but certainly won’t be my last.

Thank you to penguin general UK for my copy of this on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Full disclosure: I don't really like romcoms or chicklit. Despite this, Josie Silver is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors of all time.

"One night on the island" made me cry in a good way. It's so sweet, and moving, and wonderful, and inspiring, and all the good adjectives. Silver sets up a situation that makes you wonder how on earth she can resolve it and she does in a way which is oh so satisfying. There were times when I was worried the characters were veering a little too much into victim territory, but nope! She pulls them back just in time.

All around a glorious piece of escapism that I will most definitely be reading again and again.

With HUGE amounts of gratitude to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC without obligation.

Cleo....sent by her editor to a remote island to....what? Marry herself?
I have a feeling that I was too old for this story, however well written. It's such a hackneyed plot, Two people on an island, both trying to take ownership of the same house. Which coincidentally has only one bed.. I can see that this book will be very popular, it's amusing and descriptive. But not for me, sadly.
Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

Writer Cleo is sent to Salvation island to "Marry herself" by her editor. Upon arrival at her remote cabin she finds it has been double booked. Handsome American Mack is booked to stay there too.

Great book, I would recommend it to anyone. Josie Silver is a great author and i would read anything she writes!!

As usual in my reviews I will not rehash the plot...

Having read two other books by Josie Silver, I was really looking forward to this one. To my dismay, I did not enjoy it as much as previous titles - largely I think because I didn't like either of the main characters...

I found Cleo extremely annoying - the whole premise of her reasons for going to the island made me feel that I am either from another planet or too old to appreciate how young women of today think when approaching the tender age of 30! Mack was also somewhat annoying, but in a different way. Taken together they were a whole new level of irritating!

That said, I persevered with the novel, and found some sections to enjoy - the fellowship of the islanders and their various backstories were interesting, and the final section of the book redeemed things.

Maybe I was just in a bad mood whilst reading this, as everyone else seems to have loved this book?

Anyway, I would happily read more novels by this author, and categorise this as a 3-star read for me.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

I do love a Josie Silver book. and I read this in just a couple of sittings.

Cleo is a journalist and a budding author. Her column on an online woman's magazine is all about modern dating. With Cleo''s 30th birthday looming and still single, her editor comes up with the idea of sending Cleo off to a remote island off the coast of Ireland to marry herself in a symbolic ceremony.
With no choice, Cleo arrives on a sparsely inhabited island to find that Otter Lodge, her home for the next few weeks has actually been double booked.

Not only that but the other resident of the lodge is Mack. A grumpy American who has come to the island to learn more of where his Grandmother came from.

A storm is on the horizon and the boat which ferries people and supplies to and from the mainland only comes once a week. There is only one bed in the lodge, nowhere else to go on the island and both Cleo and Mack are stubbornly demanding that theiyare the rightful resident of Otter Lodge.

There is a fantastic cast of supporting characters who are the few other islanders who welcome Cleo and Mack into their lives and their hearts.

The story is told from the perspectives of both Cleo and Mack and is fairly fast moving.
A truly lovely story that is as much about coming to love ourselves as well as looking to find "The One"

This book is going to be HUGE.

I love a love story and Josie Silver is just one of the best authors of them!! Her characters are full and rich with complications that are both real and relatable. I would recommend this book to anyone :)
Thanks to the publisher, Netgalley and Josie Silver for the ARC.

What a great set up to a romantic and uplifting story with some sizzling sex!
You know exactly what to expect from a couple on a remote island trying to share the same cabin after a double booking. Initially annoyed that the other has ruined their solitude, the angst begins to thaw and something develops between them.
I really enjoyed this romantic story and think the author tackled a well trodden path and expanded it in a convincing way. I loved the three things they told each other every night that continued throughout the book. The idea that Cleo was their to discover herself was far more satisfying than having the American save her.
I loved both Cleo and Mack as characters and their extended families and lives bought a well rounded picture.
My only reservation would be that I found the book a little long in the second part. There is, however, a perfect ending and I was left feeling uplifted!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and to Penguin for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.
