I WAS very lucky to be able to snag a copy of ‘one night on the island’ on NetGalley and I can’t explain just how utterly extraordinary and wonderfully gorgeous this book is. The easiest five stars of this year, what a stunner. I cried, I laughed, my heart was so so full. This book is the reason I love reading so much. I can still taste and smell the sea air and I’ll be reliving this book over and over again. Thank you to Josie Silver for delivering a spectacular book, I am in love.

When I first started this book, I just could not take to the characters and their sense of entitlement. Gradually as the book went on though, they really grew on me.
I loved the setting of Salvation island, and the community and it's variety of people living there, all with their own unique stories.
Seeing Cleo and Mack's lives explained and seeing what has led them to Salvation was fascinating, and discovering how this unplanned trip would turn out for the two of them was heart warming.
A beautiful and cosy page turner, perfect for the coming winter months. I'd recommend reading this one wrapped up under a blanket with a hot chocolate!
I would go as far as to say this has been my favourite book by Josie Silver so far, and I have thoroughly enjoyed her previous two.

An uplifting and moving love story. One to be recommended.
I felt empathy for both characters - Cleo and Mack - and for their circumstances. Both need a ‘break’ and instead find each other and the start of something different.
Both learn about what is really important to them and how to realise that against the backdrop of a beautiful, isolated island off the coast of Ireland with its cast of irrepressible characters.
A joy to read.

I absolutely loved this book! One Day in December was a go-to comfort read from the very first time I picked it up a few years ago, and it’s a book I recommend to anyone and everyone looking for a good romance, so I just HAD to get my hands on this one!
The plot, the characters.. ugh! Amazing! I loved every second of it and can’t wait for a reread sometime soon!!

"Here's a blank bit of paper, write your story."
For the longest time, every October on my birthday I have, like Cleo did before her landmark 30th birthday, written a list of things I'd like to do before my next one. Before my 50th I wrote a list of 50 things to do before I was 50 - managed most of them.
This story hit hard at all those thoughts and memories.
Cleo goes to the island of Salvation to marry herself and meets Mack there. She falls for him and the island.
I loved this and was hooked within the first few chapters.
Brilliant book by a brilliant author

One Night on The Island is a feel good romance, perfect for curling up with on a rainy day, Cleo is a romance columnist sent by her boss on a job to 'couple' with herself on a remote island as she approaches her 30th birthday. Due to a mix up the cottage she was due to isolate in has been double booked and she finds herself sharing it with a loud American photographer. Both have been unlucky in love and eventually after a rocky start they find themselves falling for each other. A great feel good read with plenty of escapism

After thoroughly enjoying One Day in December, I was eager to get into this soon to be released book by Josie Silver, and I have to say, I devoured it within a few sittings.
Cleo is an online journalist, with a column all about dating in the modern world, and aspiring novelist, whose editor has the bright idea to send her to a remote island, to marry herself, in a symbolic ceremony, as she turns thirty - still single.
Not 100% convinced, she arrives there, literally in the middle of nowhere, to find her less than idyllic lodge to be double-booked.
Mack is that disgruntled American, who has come to the back of beyond to find out more about his heritage; to document stories his grandmother told him, and for some thinking time. And he is also of the opinion that he is the rightful new resident of Otter Lodge for the next few months.
What follows is a sometimes funny, but wholly poignant tale of how they end up forced to live with each other in a studio style flat, and the quirky routines that they develop, including the "three things' they disclose to each other regularly, and the chalk line. I won't explain more. You need to read!
A colourful cast of characters support Cleo and Mack, as they navigate life in this unknown place - a place that might not be a tourist haunt, but which is filled with locals who really care.
What is more to say? Well, I read it and wanted to go and find myself, too, like Cleo! Where's that remote island?
(Oh, and if you are an emotional reader, you might want to arm yourself with a tissue box!)
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin UK for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I have to admit that I was a bit unsure about this book as the idea of going off to find yourself and self-coupling does not appeal to me. However I was very pleasantly surprised as the storyline was excellent and the characters were very likeable. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a slightly different romance story.

I loved this book, fabulous characters, wonderful setting to sweep you away. written with gentle humour and really engaging story. Highly recommend.

Fabulous story format. I enjoyed reading this and following Cleo and Macks journey. Wish I could visit Salvation Island right now, sounds perfect! #onenightontheisland #NetGalley

A fast easy read, Prefect for a winter night in front of the fire. This book is full of likable characters, laugh out loud moments and some weepy ones too.
I like e the authors style of writing giving you both macks and cleos point of view.
Over all I would definitely recommend this book, I enjoyed it
Thanks netgallery for the advanced copy of this book.

Cleo is a columnist who writes about her search for love; or her flamingo because these birds mate for life.
Her editor sends her to Salvation Island, a tiny bit of rock in the Atlantic off the west coast of Ireland with instructions to 'marry herself' and to report on the experience.
Mack is the 'inconvenient American' who also expects yo stay in Otter Lodge and can't be persuaded to leave.
Both of them start out rather antagonistic but Salvation Island and the very special community Cleo and Mack come to know and love work their magic.
Mack goes home to Boston to be there for his sons wondering whether he can salvage his marriage.
Cleo wants to be a novelist, but does she actually have a story in her?
I loved this book. The characters are so attractive; pregnant Delta, Carmen who's sheep give the best wool on the island, Dolores who is sharp and disapproving. I really wanted to join the knitting circle and to find the pool in the cave. Delicious!

What a brilliant book. So many great female characters, beautiful scenery so amazingly described and a wonderful love story. Yes it may be a little predictable but isnt that what you want from a romantic novel. Im already packing my bags and heading for Salvation Island!

A lovely novel that was a great bit of escapism. Cleo is a romance columnist who is unlucky in love so goes to stay on a remote island to "couple" with herself as she approaches her 30th birthday. When she arrives it seems the cottahe has been double booked and she meets her new roommate Mack. The novel the follows their story together and their individual journeys of self awareness. I loved the tales of the island community and the not quite so traditional happy ending. Thanks to netgally for the early copy in exchange for this honest review. I will definitely be reading more bybthia author.

What a wonderful book! It made me laugh out loud in some places and cry in the other and that's exactly what a good book should do - feel all the emotions! I was a little bit skeptical in the first chapters (marrying yourself?!) and I felt the topic was probably more suited to someone in their twenties but I thought the characters and the story was brilliantly done. Well done!

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I enjoyed Silver's other books, so was excited to read this one, and thankfully it didn't disappoint. I was invested in the characters and their story, and the setting was absolutely delightful.

I read Josie Silver’s One Day In December and absolutely loved it and so I was very much looking forward to reading One Night on the Island, and it’s safe to say it did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it.
One Night on the Island centres on Cleo, a dating columnist from London who is sent to a remote island off Ireland by her editor to marry herself for a new feature. She’s booked into a beautiful cottage on the edge of Salvation island, it’s a perfect escape, a chance to find herself and figure out what she wants. Only there’s a hitch. The, very small, cottage has been double booked and whilst Cleo was expecting to be alone she is now faced with sharing the space with the handsome, yet grumpy American Mack. Can this disastrous double booking turn into more? Will Cleo and Mack find what they were searching for on the island whilst perhaps finding love at the same time?
This is a glorious slow burn, enemies to lovers romance. The tension builds between Cleo and Mack throughout the first half of the book as their feelings begin to shift and change. The chemistry between the pair was excellent. What I appreciated the most about this romance, however, was how they were able to help and heal each other. Through their time together they recognised what was missing in their lives before and helped each other discover a happiness they had both lost, whilst still very much retaining their sense of self.
Whilst this is a romance novel it is so much more. This is also a story of self acceptance, of finding your own happiness, of sisterhood and pure friendship. It is also a love letter to the most incredible island.
The way that Josie Silver writes about Salvation Island is just magical. She totally transports you to this most wonderful remote island. Salvation isn’t just the setting of this story, it feels as though it’s a character in its own right, it’s an absolutely integral part of the story. It’s almost as though you can feel the wind through your hair and taste the salt on your lips.
What truly makes this book special, for me at least, are the inhabitants of this magical island. The solidarity amongst the island folk is just wonderful, and rather than shun the newcomers they welcome them with open arms and warm hearts. You could really feel the bonds of these women leaping off the page, especially at their knitting meetings. Each of these women were wonderfully drawn, and I especially loved Delta, who proved to be the most wonderful friend to Cleo.
If you love a slow burn romance, with very real feeling characters, wonderful friends and a truly spectacular setting you must read One Night on the Island.

With thanks to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this title
I really loved this story and was hooked from the minute I picked it up, Josie Silver has a unique style of writing which draws the reader in from the beginning and I felt totally involved throughout. It is your typical love story with a few twists but was very heartwarming to read. Although Josie created great descriptions of many of the photos talked about in the book I would love to see a real life version! Infact I think this would be an absolutely perfect winter warmer movie.

What a gorgeous book with warm, thoughtful characters. I devoured it over a couple of days and it’s left me wanting more. Highly recommended.
Thank you to Penguin UK via NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review. I feel very honoured.

I previously read and loved Josie Silver’s “One Day in December” so my expectations were set pretty high for this new novel and it did not disappoint! I loved the setting of the book on the remote Irish Island Of Salvation and the variety of characters and their big personalities drew me in, so much so that I could not put this down once I started reading. I love the way the relationship develops between Mack and Cleo and the whole way through the story I was just clinging on, hoping that they would get together in the end.
I also think that the book delivers a very important message in the current day and age about the importance of self love and self confidence. It really resonated with me as I am currently approaching my 30th birthday (just like Cleo!) and I feel the pressure from society to do certain things by a certain age.; get married, have kids etc, when actually it is most important just to accept yourself and be happy with your place in the world.
Cannot recommend this book enough. LOVE.
