Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for this advanced reader’s copy.
This is a smartly written The Devil Wears Prada meets Inventing Anna meets Catch Me If You Can.
Lora is a broke college dropout out interning at Elle magazine where she meets contributing editor Cat Wolff. After Lora’s internship ends, the two strike up a writing arrangement to work on short stories and a novel. As Lora is treated to Cat’s expensive lifestyle, things start to appear not quite as they seem. Fast paced, witty, thrilling… AND THAT ENDING!!! Never saw it coming.

A quick and entertaining read delivering surprises along with a satisfying ending. Con artists have being interesting to me since seeing Leo in "Catch Me If You Can", and Rigetti does a good job of examining them from different angles (from the viewpoint of the FBI, an innocent swept up in it, etc.). Great debut that leads me open to reading future books about Laura. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. My opinions are my own.

I forgot to leave a review for this, but I really enjoyed it! It's been out for ages, so I won't say much more than I need to for my star rating. <3

Such an engaging and capturing story. Reminded me of a fictional version of "My Friend Anna." Best plot twist in that ending! Totally recommend.

It truly is a cross between the show Inventing Anna and Catch Me If You Can.
This one definitely keeps you guessi g until the end. Just when you think you know what is going on. . BAM!

I didn't know what to expect going into this read but the twist absolutely got me. WOW! I was invested the entire time and enjoyed this book very much.

I love stories where the characters are not what they seem in the beginning and Cover Story is definitely one of those. The power imbalance between Lora and Cat is fascinating to see, all the while wondering what Cat is really hiding.

I loved this book by Susan Rigetti! She tells a unique, engaging story that would appeal to many readers. The setting and characters were a great fit for me.

Cover Story was a fun and fast read. The set up of the story thru text and diary entries made it so quick to read. Lora is an intern at Elle Magazine when she meets Cat Wolff from there it’s just a crazy ride. Loved this book and that ending you don’t even realize till after a few minutes

Entertaining, quick read with a surprising ending. I found myself unable to put the book down at times. I really sympathized for the main character and felt drawn to her.

This month the #literarylovelies Cover Story by @susanthesquark! This was the first book in a long while we all absolutely loved.
Lora is trying to finish college when she gets her dream internship at Elle magazine. She doesn’t quite fit in with the other glamorous interns, but she connects with a features editor named Cat Wolff. The rumor is that Cat is a German heiress and her suite at the Plaza seems to prove this theory. They work together and get closer as they work on stories together.
One night Lora confesses that she can’t afford NYU anymore and has no place to live. Cat encourages Lora to move on with her and they are going to work on a few short stories together. Since Lora has no money, she never really leaves the suite. But as Cat gets weirder and weirder, Lora starts to get suspicious.
I LOVE epistolary novels and this has a lot of emails, texts transcripts, FBI reports, and letters that really enhance and progress the plot. If you liked Inventing Anna, the Tinder Swindler or followed Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos, you will love Cover Story. I love the scammer stories, so this was a home run for me.
Thank you for our gifted copies to @bookclubgirl @williammorrowbooks and Susan. I would recommend reading Cover Story with a friend so that you can discuss together!
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At the risk of possibly spoiling this book, I would describe it as "Anna Delvey meets Catch Me If You Can meets Ocean's Eight." It was fast-paced and engaging, and I seriously could not put it down! I devoured it in two days. Although it does contain a crazy twist at the end, and you're frustrated with the MC to the point that you want to smack some sense into her, this was not at all a copy/paste dark thriller. It was a fun, wild ride with a real "holy shit!" reveal at the end that will scramble your brain and make you question every word you just read. This was hands down, without question, a 5-star read and I can not recommend it highly enough. A+++!

Aspiring writer Lora Ricci is thrilled to land an internship at ELLE magazine, where she meets Cat Wolff, a charming and wealthy woman who is a contributing editor at the magazine. At Cat's suggestion, Lora drops out of NYU and becomes her ghostwriter. The two women live together at Cat's suite at the Plaza Hotel, writing by day and partying by night. But as time goes on, Cat's perfect exterior cracks and a darker side emerges.
This was an engaging read. It was written so well and the twists were pretty epic. I had a love/hate relationship with the characters, but it wasn't a bad thing. I found the similarities to Inventing Anna to be too many in my opinion. I would have enjoyed it more if that weren't the case. Overall, still a good read and I would still recommend it!

I wanted to like this way more than I actually did. Not a book club contender, but a solild 3rd round purchase for extra large collections

I had very mixed emotions regarding this book. The plot was interesting, and kept me entertained, but I still had several questions after finishing. It’s not one I’ll reach for again, but there are aspects of the storyline that I’ll seek out in other novels. This one was just not fully there or realized for me.

This was definitely a wild book, with a crazy ending! Is this my favorite type of book? Not really, but I enjoyed it and thought it was a good way to pass the time.
Thanks for the advanced copy!

Lora Ricci wins a summer internship at Elle Magazine where she meets Cat Wolf, a mysterious, wealthy contributing editor. Lora has lost her NYU scholarship and doesn’t have the funds to continue school in the fall. Cat persuades her to drop out and work as a ghostwriter of short stories. Lora moves into Cat’s suite at the Plaza Hotel and discovers that Cat is not who she claims to be. The fast-moving story is told through diary entries, emails, instagram posts, and FBI correspondence. Lora comes across as a bit too naive, but the story with its surprise ending is very compelling.

Wow! I am so very grateful that the publishers allowed me to read and review this book! I hate giving spoilers so I’m just going to say, you fooled me and you fooled me good. That’s hard to do! I feel like I always figure it out, but that last twist…just wow. Thanks for a fantastic read! I can’t wait to recommend this one!

This book is a fun summer poolside read. It’s the kind of book you can pick up in an airport and accidentally finish before you even board your flight. Or the book you get thinking that you’ll read it over the weekend, read the first few pages when you get home, and then stay up all night reading the book.
The book begins with FBI notes about suspicions about Cat Wolff not being who she says she is. Lora Ricci is our main narrator, a college intern at Elle Magazine, who wants to become a writer and journals about her experience. Lora is so excited to have landed the internship, but is separated from the other interns with her assigned work, and starts getting closer to Cat, who also works at Elle. After they grow closer and closer, Lora takes a job working for Cat. The story is mainly told through Lora’s journal, with external communications interspersed throughout.
I was so worried for Lora throughout the book - knowing from the beginning that Cat wasn’t who she said she was, I kept wondering what Cat’s end goal was for Lora. I didn’t see the end coming.
This book was a fun read, but it also felt ripped from the headlines - Cat Wolff seemed entirely based on Anna Sorokin. It was a fun spin on her story, but I would have enjoyed a character that was more different than Cat seemed. Otherwise the story was fun and kept me guessing throughout.

Cover Story is an enjoyable, fast-paced read about a young girl caught in a con-artist’s schemes. It’s told in a unique format through diary pages, emails, message chats, social media postings, etc. I enjoyed the mystery of trying to figure out more about who was Cat Wolff and why she was doing certain things to execute her scam. While some people caught clues to the final plot twist, it was unexpected to me.
