The most important message from this book:
"Christmas had lived in their hearts all along. A great story about patience and what is important in life as well. But then they took stock of the things that the they had. They had love. They had hope. They had kindness and grace. They had joy and good fortune all over the place."
While our normal Santa Claus was on vacation, Slothy Claus was on duty!
Though he forgot the actual "day" of Christmas, he still brought something to them that even they didn't know they needed.
They needed to be reminded that gifts don't matter.
It's who you have in your life, hope, love, grace, kindness.
It also kind of reminded me of the fruits of the spirit.
Very beautiful and also a good reminder to keep in mind what Christmas is really about.
Imagine a world where Santa was a sloth. He moves so slow as he prepares for Christmas. This story teaches kids the true meaning of Christmas- take time to be grateful for everything you have. It’s an important lesson to learn.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Super cute! love this book, short and simple and the extra of being a year round Christmas book lol
Told in the rhyming style of The Night Before Christmas, the story of Slothy Claus is about a sloth who brings presents very sloooowly to all the forest creatures. Of course, being a sloth, he isn't ready in time for Christmas, and in the time it takes for him to actually arrive, the animals learn an important lesson about contentment.
This story was illustrated with beautiful colors, and told with a silly parody style that will appeal to a variety of ages. The character of the sloth was not particularly developed and the story focused more on the idea of whether presents are the most important thing or not. A good lesson, and being that sloths are trendy, it will surely be a hit.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Slothy Claus: A Christmas Story is a sweet and fun read for Christmas which helps children to realise the true meaning of Christmas. Slothy Clause is loading up his sled for Christmas eve,but we all know how lazy and sleepy Sloths are. He falls asleep and all the animals wale up Christmas morning to empty stockings. At first they despair but they soon realise that presents don't make Christmas the magical time it can be, love, togetherness and joy does and they have that together with their loved ones.
I loved the ending of this book - it was so funny!
What a truly joyful read to share with your children are Christmas.
My children LOVED this book! The sloth is just the more adorable thing, and the faces his helpers are making while they wait for his incredibly slow movement were hilarious! The message about the true value of Christmas was such a nice surprise, and my children were shocked about the plot. All of the faces were so expressive and the illustrations were amazing. Highly recommend!
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's very cute. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
A story about a Sloth is sure to include a consequence of how slow they move, and this one does just that. All the animals in the forest are preparing for the arrival of Slothy Claus. They decorate, hang up their stockings, put out treats and head to bed. Meanwhile, Slothy Claus is packing his sled to head off to deliver presents. He works a bit, then takes a nap and so on, until it is Christmas morning, and there are no presents from Slothy. The young animals are sad and distraught until they realize they still have lots of blessings and Christmas ends up happy even without presents (shades of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas). Time moves on and Slothy Claus continues to pack up his sled and finally delivers his presents on a hot, summery day in July. The important message being: "Christmas had lived in their hearts all along." We all enjoyed this one, the rhyming text with its great read aloud cadence, the bright and colourful illustrations and the wonderful message that Christmas is about family and friends, not presents and what we get. A great story about patience and what is important in life as well. I recommend this one to families and community libraries.
Slothy Claus is a humorous rhyming tale that starts out like Twas the Night Before Christmas, but then takes a detour because ole Slothy Clause can't seem to stay on schedule. At first, the children are upset that Santa hasn't come, but then they realize how much they do have and manage a joyful Christmas celebration without the materialistic trappings. Slothy Claus finally shows up that summer with their gifts, and more celebrating ensues. A great presentation of an alternative version of Santa.
My son and I read this one together. He stated his favorite parts were when Slothy fell asleep on the job and also when he didn’t arrive until July. He laughed out loud at both.
As for me, the overall Christmas message was wonderful. Plus the illustrations are beautiful. It’s a great picture book!
I was given an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a fun retelling of the classic Christmas tale. It’s cadence is much the same but totally different story. I enjoyed the tale very much and would definitely recommend for young readers..
This is a sweet, heartwarming book about the true meaning of Christmas. Can kids accept the fact that Slothy Claus, who travels at a snail pace, doesn't make it on time to deliver their presents? This delightful story teaches kids that Christmas is much more than piles of presents found under the tree.
Slothy Claus, his sleigh packed full of gifts for good boys and girls, finds it impossible to meet the Christmas Eve deadlines for delivery, so when the kids wake up on Christmas morning their stockings are empty and under their trees bare. Oh my! It's a true Christmas tragedy. Will they be able to overcome their disappointment and sadness and perhaps find happiness without all the fancy trimmings and trappings of the season?
"Slothy Claus" points out to kids that perhaps Christmas joy and contentment doesn't come from material things but from the love that flows between family and friends at that very special time of the year. The art work is amazing and greatly enriches the message of the book. The book is enhanced with a bright, glittery cover, making it a perfect gift to give for advent or Christmas. The author includes a fun twist at the end that will delight readers both young and old. The book will fill your own family's Christmas with love, laughter, and a spirit of giving. I highly recommend this book.
I thought that this book was brilliant!
It was easy to read and understand, I liked the messages and themes too - and who doesn't love Santa and sloths - my four year old has a couple of sloth teddies so this was a big hit with her as you can imagine!
The illustrations in the book are wonderful, nice, bright, clear and attractive to young ones, the pages have plenty to look at too without them being overly crammed.
The writing style was perfect and it was a fun and enjoyable read that we read more than once and will read again on the run up to Christmas itself too.
Lovely message that Christmas is not all about the gifts - it is 5 stars from us for this one, we both loved it! Very highly recommended!!
This was really cute..I read it to my 2.5 year old and he seemed to enjoy the story plus there was great illustrations.
Slothy Claus makes his sluggish way around the world to deliver Christmas presents. Will Christmas be ruined when the presents are not delivered on time?
Slothy Claus is a charming, well illustrated story that includes elements the origin story known well to many. As the author digresses into more unknown territory, children are treated to whimsical artwork and a plot that reminds of the true meaning of Christmas. This book is delightful and will charm those in any age group. Slothy Claus is a book that I would highly recommend and would be a great addition to any bookshelf.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Slothy Claus by NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas Nelson. The decision to read and review this children's book was entirely my own.
This Christmas Santa Claus is taking a wee break and has passed on the job to Slothy Claus. Now it is up to Slothy Claus to get the presents together and deliver them all around the world. Of course, we all know that Sloths are the slowest creature in the world, so of course, this Christmas doesn't get to happen till July which would make this the perfect Midwinter Christmas story. This book was also adorable as it showed children that you don't need presents on Christmas to be happy, that being with friends and family is just as great. What I also loved about this book was the wonderful illustrations by Mackenzie Haley. Slothy Claus makes the perfect read for children aged 0-5 years old and fun to read for lovers of Sloths and those who love everything Christmas.
This funny book gets you right in the mood for the holidays. I think anyone who celebrates Christmas will love it, especially because it includes a sloth- who doesn't love sloths?
Sweet and memorable twist on a Christmas classic, that comes with a meaningful lesson about the true nature of the season. Slots aren't protagonists in enough children's literature! More sloths! And more illustrations from Mackenzie Hayley - these were luminous and textured and everything a great children's book needs. All the Christmas vibes and all the joy of cute characters and little details to make you laugh.
Slothy Claus by Jodie Shepherd
By far the most funniest Christmas story!! We absolutely loved it!!
So, this delightful Christmas story is about a sloth who is Santa Claus and as he begins to prepare the night before Christmas, all very sllooooooooooooooowly, the children all eagerly await his arrival. On Christmas morning, he has still not turned up! As children realise there are no presents under trees, no stocking full of gifts.. not a book, not a toy not even a drum... there are suddenly lots of tears! Oh dear. All the while, Slothy is sllooooooooooooooowly packing the sledge. But the children soon learn Christmas is a wonderful time for many things other than presents and so they get on with their day. Soon, the days become warmer and it's not long before Slothy turns up....in JULY!
My daughter loved this story so much and we can wait to read it again and again before Christmas. A fun read! Thank you @netgalley and @harpercollins for our copy. A firm favourite already!
So this is how Christmas in July happened! This book was a joy to read, especially since all the kids didn't get upset when Christmas came and went because their Santa Claus is a sloth. I loved the storyline and the illustrations in this one, but I also like that it made me genuinely laugh.
