This is a children’s book that will help your child learn about prayer and comfort in God.
It demonstrates to children how, when, and why to talk with God as they learn more of who God is and how much He loves them.
The book introduces young readers to Poppy: a little girl who has big questions about God, as most children do. Poppy wants to know how to talk with God and whether God listens to her. As she goes through her day with her cat and dog by her side, Poppy discovers that God is always there, even when the world is asleep!
A delightful little girl named Poppy has a big question.
This adorable book has beautiful illustrations. It is worth pausing at each page to see all the details.
Children and grownups will love the story. It is meant to answer the big question but also smaller ones. It will help open the door to a life of gratitude and also help little ones start praying, talking to God. A children’s Bible is mentioned in the story and Psalm 121:1-3 comes to answer all of Poppy’s questions, both perfect additions to an already perfect book.
I highly recommend it.
This is a cute rhyming book for little ones. It mirrors the curiosity of children and provides reassurance that God is always present. The story follows a little girl throughout her day as she questions and if God is awake at each moment. I enjoyed reading this to my girls and they enjoyed listening.
Is God Still Awake? by Sheila Walsh is a very sweet book. In the book a little girl is on a quest to find out if God ever sleeps. Through observations from the world around her and the guidance she recieves from the adults in her life and the Bible, she gets her answer. I absolutely loved this book. It would be perfect for any type of reading time. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (My review is also on Goodreads.)
A cute picture book written in rhyme which explores a young child’s questions about God and prayer. As she navigates the day, the little girl wonders if God is awake, with her and sees what she does. She questions if God is present when bad things happen, as well as good.
The illustrations are bright and colourful. I like the text being written in different size fonts to emphasise points. One or two of the rhymes seem a little forced.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book would make the perfect bedtime story. The rhyming story and the beautiful illustrations make for a wonderful story that assures children that God is always watching over them.
I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
What better way to instill into a child's heart and mind some biblical truths about God's love and constant presence with us than a rhyming book! (Aside from the Bible itself, that is.) After a few reads, they will be able to recite every word by heart and may even remember it for the rest of their lives.
That's why this book would be such a treasure in every Christian family's library. The words rhyme nicely and are comforting and based on the Bible. The illustrations are colorful and bright, and the little girl and her pets are so cute and adorable.
This was such a cute and gorgeous story and the illustrations were one of the best I have seen for a children's picture book for a long time, so shout out to Aleksandra Szmidt who illustrated Is God Still Awake? This story introduces us to a little girl named Poppy who is told that God is everywhere and he is always with her. This makes her start to wonder whether God sleeps or is he awake looking over her when she is sleeping? Is God asleep when Bad stuff happens? I have to admit that this is one question that will be around for centuries still to come and one that no matter the age - why does God let bad stuff happen and people be mean to one another? We are told it happens, but God always has a plan and trust in him, no matter how hard we find ourselves suffering. Poppy has lots of questions that range from how to pray to him and how God listens etc. This was an adorable book and I would say perfect for any children especially daughters aged 3-7 years old and the best way to illustrate to them that no matter where they are God is always with them in their heart and always watching over them.
On the very last page we have the verses from Psalms 121 verse 1-3 which reads "I look up to the hills, but where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. He made heaven and earth. He will not let you be defeated. He who guards you never sleeps"
Children wrestle with many fears in their young hearts and minds, one of the biggest is whether God can really be trusted to take care of them. In her new release, Sheila Walsh tackles this topic with great care and is perfect for ages 3-8. Children will quickly fall in love with the lovely rhyming poem (which is in perfect meter, well done Sheila!) and the adorably charming illustrations.
The main character is a young girl, who has many questions about God. Is He aware of what's happening in her life? Will He take care of her? Is he there for just the good times, or the sad times as well? What if she does something bad, will He go away? The end of the story gives full reassurance that not only does God know about these things, He is always with her and NEVER sleeps - she will never be alone.
Although I believe this book would be a blessing in every home, it would be a particular encouragement to a child struggling with: anxiety, fears of the unknown/dark/etc, or struggling with loneliness. While none of those themes are addressed directly, the message that God loves them and will always be with them and take care of them will be a strong encouragement to both the child and the adult reading. I also appreciated the firm reassurance that God's Word can be trusted as well.
I look forward to future releases from this author.
*I received a free early release copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

This was a sweet Christian picture book.
Well there are some well known benefits of reading books to your children like helping them engage , imagine and dream . It effects their vocabulary tremendously and gives me write words to express themselves . But one benefit which I have come to realise reading latest releases is that they tackle challenging topics in a easy fun way , the children can easily take away as much as they understand , and this proves to be a great help to parents with the conversations about these topics .
❤️Is god still awake ? Is an Innocent and charming story of a kid wondering the existence and presence of god . Although the book mentions bible so might not relate to all families with different religion but if you are religion neutral like us, this is a beautiful book , with the most beautiful illustrations .
Excellent poetry and fun illustrations about a girl asking a lot of questions about God. At the end she gives us the real answers. Great for your little ones.
Is God Still Awake is a cute, reassuring book for littles who wonder about God and if He's always watching over them. I read this with my 9 and 5 year old daughters who lived the story and illustrations. The length was perfect for a reassuring bedtime read.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.
I look up to the hills. But where dos my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. He made heaven and earth. He will not let you be defeated. He who guards you never sleeps.
With so much going on in the world today. Christian parents can help their child learn about the goodness of God thru his word. A little girls journey learning that God never sleeps and He is always near. These are important truths to learn so that when doubt comes, we can direct our children to the truth and the promises of God. It is a journey for all of us. GOD NEVER SLEEPS. Illustrations that complement these simple truths bring comfort and confidence. Highly recommend.
A special thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this to my daughter - she loved the illustrations and could understand the different emotions Poppy was feeling. It was a little long but that could be interpreted differently in print format vs digital! Would recommend!
First, I wanted to read this book when I saw the title. It immediately caught my attention. How was the author going to answer the question for children? The second reason I was drawn to this book was the cover. If I judged a book by its cover (which I have been known to do) then this book would win hands down as one of my favorites. The last reason I wanted to read this book was the author. I have read non-fiction books by Shelia Walsh and enjoyed each one so I guessed her children's fiction would be fantastic. I wasn't wrong.
Is God Still Awake? begins with that question and addresses others as well. With colorful, eye-catching illustrations this book has great appeal for children. Because it's written in rhyme, it will also appeal to anyone who reads out loud to children.
With a terrific balance of whimsy, wonder, and warmth, Sheila Walsh takes complicated questions and answer them with simple truths from God's Word. To accomplish that is amazing. When it's accomplished by using beautiful rhyming words and delightful illustrations by Aleksandra Szmidt, it becomes a book you must add to your collection.
Thank you, Thomas Nelson , for the free ebook via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Children's for a free digital copy.
A tender rhyming book about God's presence that also happens to be whimsical and vibrant. It really walks through a little girl's thought process of what God sees and hears and knows. And she asks the question if God is always with her. And of course the answer is yes!
This is a great book for little readers wondering if God is always there. Beautiful illustrations and perfectly written for a young child
I love the style of illustrations in this book—so fun! The author also does a great. job thinking through all the questions kids have related to God's presence and listening ear. I really liked when the child questions if God is still awake when things go wrong—it's important to validate that question from an early age! Finally, Noodle is a sweet added touch to the plot.
I did think the story was a bit long but am still giving 5/5 stars because the content and imagery are wonderful, and by the time you've reached the end of the story, you can sense what the main character is feeling: God really is with her and loves her, so she doesn't need to fear. Such an important message for all children to hear!
The is a delightful story about a young girl wondering if God ever sleeps. Her thoughts are excellent and the rhyming format is very engaging as are the colorful illustrations. This would be a great book for a preschool, lower elementary, or church nursery library.
