Best biography of Lincoln I have ever read; but beware, it is LONG. It's excellent because it is far more than a mere biography. It is as much a history of the society and culture in which Lincoln lives as it is a biography of Lincoln. It does get somewhat tedious as the author tirelessly summarizes, for example, the many legal cases in which Lincoln was involved. But in the end it is worth it as the reader has a far more in depth understanding and appreciation of Lincoln and his times.
