Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley, & Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this book before it's publication date! This in no way affected my review, opinions are my own.
Hi, hello, I will read anything Beth O'Leary writes, EVER. I'm tempted to make that the whole review, but I guess I'll give you a little more.
This book (in my opinion) had ONE flaw, and that flaw is that it is not The Flatshare, which remains one of my favorite books of all time. Also, I guess if I'm reaching, even though I was interested from page 1, it probably took me half the book to be INVESTED.
All of that being said, I really really really liked this book and am looking forward to an eventual re-read via audio (Evanna Lynch aka Luna Lovegood plays Siobhan, WHAT). I actually have a feeling that this will be even better on audio, especially because there are so many changes in POV. (For anyone interested, O'Leary's books are consistently amazing via audio.)
I really don't want to say too much else, because I would hate to give anything away - but I will say that while this is a book featuring romance, there are a lot of harder topics throughout so it's something to keep in mind. And if you feel like you don't get it, just wait. You will, and it'll be amazing. Just trust me on that.
This book would best be read on a solo dinner date at a restaurant with tablecloths; one of those with a bread basket and the fancy silver bucket for your chilled wine (I'd suggest a white, but that's a personal choice). I think it would be nice to get a little fancy for your date with this book, but if you want to wear the flats - go for it.
I love all Beth O'Leary's books and this one was definitely just as good as the previous ones! I will definitely be reading more from her in the future.
I'm not sure what it is with me and Beth O'Leary.
It seems like it always takes a certain mindset and at least 4 attempts to finish the book.
I always end up enjoying it, but I don't think it's great that it takes so much effort to finish a book.
Anyways, this was good, but I found myself changing to other books multiple times during reading this in order to finish this.
THE NO-SHOW
By Beth O’Leary
THE NO-SHOW by Beth O’Leary is another winning book. The writing is superb and in this story, the plotting was absolutely brilliant.
THE NO-SHOW is about three very different women who has no attachment to each other, except that they were all stood up on Valentine’s Day by the same man.
Three strangers whose stories are told through their point of views create a story that seem so convoluted and complex, but all the while, I find myself intrigued and turning those pages to see how the story will weave together. Dare I not fret since this story was in the hands of a masterful plotter, this story came through so beautifully in the end. I enjoyed The No-Show so much!
I loved this book. I talked about how after three failed books, I went to this one because the author has always delivered. It's five stars... and it made me cry at the end! Beth went deep on this one... and there was quite a twist that made me think. It's a great romance.
Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this one as much as I did ! There is definitely a lot going on (in a good way) and I loved every single one of the characters. They all have their unique personality and I enjoyed unraveling what happened. I would recommend this if you enjoy any of her other books and need a good romance !
I found this very confusing to follow. Too many characters and I wasn’t sure if this was happening in real time or before. A surprise ending as to who Joseph ends up with after all this turmoil.
I really wanted to read this slow and savor it because I love Beth O’Leary, but I found myself flying through it. This is definitely my fav book from the author. The three women: Siobhan, Miranda, and Jane were written in such a way that I couldn’t not become completely invested in their stories. (Someone please make this into a movie!) The story was so unique. It kept me on my toes and constantly had me wondering what on earth is going on?!? And when everything finally came together…it was too good!! I was not ready for the book to end and could have easily read 300 more pages.
I have held off writing this review for weeks, because it actually left me reeling. I think The No-Show may be a top contender for me so far this year in the romance genre. The story starts of simply three women get stood up, but as the pages progress the story becomes a deeply intricate woven tale of three drastically different women who are finding themselves. Life can be oh so incredibly hard. We fall down and then sometimes life goes and bowls us over again. We find joy, we find friendship, we find love, and quite a lot of sadness. Beth O'Leary nailed it all with this book. I found myself constantly rooting for the women and disliking their partners. This book made me cry and I swear that never happens. I felt my heart swell and collapse as I read the pages. I have been disappointed by some of her other novels, but this was right up there with The Flatshare for me!
This book was amazing. I coudn't put it down. It was magical. Higly recommended! The characters, the plots, the writting: wonderful and perfect.
Wow. This book. What an amazing read. At the beginning, you absolutely hate Ethan and you can’t understand why he should be with any of the woman. As the book progresses, it just keeps getting better.
The twist in this book is enough for me to recommend that anyone starting it should power through until the end. While I often found that there were too many characters for me to keep track of and I was getting confused about the lives of the different women, this was an enjoyable read that had quite the surprise ending!
This book starts off with the same guy standing up three different women. I thought it would end up being a John Tucker Must Die situation and was waiting for the shoe to drop where they all meet. This made the middle of the book a bit confusing but wrapped up in an amazing character development where the characters all came together.
I think I cried through a large portion of the ending. The twists are unexpected and heartbreaking. It made me a fan of Beth O'Leary and I immediately looked into her other work after.
What would you do if you were 1 of 3 women all dating the same man? And, oh, by the way, he stands you all up on Valentine's Day? Well, you'd likely be really upset, of course. This books is about these 3 women, and the story slowly unravels what really happened that day. Somewhere between a romance and a mystery/suspense as you sort out the real story, this book kept me turning the pages!
The No-Show is the first book I've read by Beth O'Leary and it will not be the last. I loved this book so much! Watching as each woman learned to figure themselves out after being stood up by the same man (although not knowing that) was awe-inspiring. The little twists and turns along the way blew my mind, and while Joseph's life was such a mess, meeting these women helped him, too. There was so much sadness but also so much hope in this book that my emotions were all over the place--in a good way. As someone who has lost a significant other, I could feel Joseph's anguish when he finally told Miranda what had happened to Siobhan, and I loved that Miranda chose to still be there for him in the capacity of a friend because she knew that's what he needed. This book was just so good, and I can't wait to read more by Beth O'Leary!
This book was a No for me. It was son confusing I had to DNF. I feel like the change from one character to another was somehow wrongly written
What a clever, charming and surprising story. I expected a rom-com based on the title, description and cover. However, that's not necessarily what this was. It definitely had very funny moments, but there was a lot to uncover here, and what you think you know is not necessarily what is true. Three different women are all stood up by the same man on Valentine's Day...but it's not what you think it is. So just jump in, tighten your seat belt and enjoy the ride and the scenery. All will be revealed and I think you'll be happily surprised at where you end up.
Gah this was intense. I was expecting a funny rom com but it was way more than that. I wouldn't say I loved it but it for sure packed an emotional punch I wasn't expecting. I did really enjoy the ending and all of the characters I fell in love with in their own way.
I even enjoyed Joesph who at the beginning of this book I was like there is no way I will like him. I will say this; don't go into this book expecting a light fun time. It's def. more than that.
You may know O'Leary from works like The Flatshare and The Switch; I've been looking forward to her latest. This is a tricky one to discuss without sharing massive spoilers, which also means it would make an excellent book club read! The premise is this: three women are stood up by the same guy on Valentine's Day—one for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner. As the story unfolds, the reader gets to know each woman, plus the no-show, and slowly begins to figure out what might have happened on that terrible day. This felt like a romantic comedy in the beginning, but gradually gave way to a deeper and surprisingly touching story of love, forgiveness, and second chances
