Not quite as funny as some of her previous collections, although definitely relatable and enjoyable. The ones about pets were the best!
I love everything by Sarah Andersen and this was no exception! While reading this collection I constantly found myself saying omg me!, it was like Sarah had read my mind and it was so fun to read about other people experiencing the same love of their friends and awkwardness in social situations. There were so many comics in here that I wanted to send to my friends since it reflected our own conversations. I also loved all the cat comics are they mirrored my own intense attachment to a furry death ball. As always the art style was simple but fun and relatable, able to reflect silly situations and intense feelings so easily. I read through this so quickly and can't wait for more!
Thank you to netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for a free advance copy for my unbiased opinion.
I’m a big fan of these personal slice-of-life style graphic novels and had heard rave reviews of Sarah Andersen’s previous works – but I’d never gotten around to picking up any myself. That will change now that I’ve read Oddball because it brought me SO MUCH JOY. It was so funny and relatable. Literally every page was an absolute delight to read.
I felt seen in these panels in every sense - from my introversion to struggling with mental health all the way through to loving all things autumnal, cats and general fandom stuff. This book was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to check out the backlist.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this eBook.
You can always count on Sarah Andersen for hilarious and relatable comics and Oddball was no different. Keep them coming Sarah! I will read them all!
I love this fun oddball cartoon book. They are a nice break and laugh at the perspective of life. This isn't as great as some of the other books. But still ranks high.
Oddball is Sarah Andersen’s fourth Sarah’s Scribbles collection, though you won’t need to read the first three to enjoy this installment. As always, Andersen tackles topics such as the creative process, being an introvert, and, most importantly, cats. Some of the comics also brought up Millennial humor and as one, I felt rightfully called out. Honestly, whenever one of her comics comes across my feed I usually read it and think, “SAME.”
Personal favorites for people to reference once the book is out:
“I have a new boyfriend. He’s a real angel.”
Every single comic about cats.
Women’s bathroom line.
“I’m the villain.”
Some Authors
I also really like Andersen’s art style. It’s minimalistic, but still distinct.
Readers who already enjoy Andersen’s work will also be pleased with Oddball. It’s every bit as good as her other books, perhaps even better? The topics in her comics really resonate with me as an introvert, reader, and cat person.
Anyone unfamiliar with Sarah’s work should check out one of her social media profiles to see if Andersen’s art style and sense of humor are a good fit for them.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. I love Sarah's Scribbles, and this collection was full of really relatable comics. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I have read Sarah Andersen's previous Sarah Scribbles books and loved it. This one was not an exception. Once again her book is a fun, entertaining light read. I had previously seen some of the comics in here on her social media, but it was nice to see them again. If you are a millennial you probably will easily relate to most of the book.
Check her social media to see if her comics are her style, but I definitely recommend Oddball.
This is an awesome collection of comics. All of them were relatable and I laughed many times while reading this. This was a very enjoyable read.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oddball is the fourth collection of Sarah's Scribbles cartoons by Sarah Andersen. Due out 12th Oct 2021 from Andrews McMeel, it's 112 pages and will be available in paperback format.
This is one of a number of wildly popular internet based media juggernaut comics with which everyone is familiar even if they don't know they're familiar. I can't recall the last time I went 24 hours without seeing a custom made meme of one or another of Sarah's panels popping up on my social media feeds. This is the unadulterated pure stuff though; funny, quirky, insightful, weird, and with a lot of heart.
This collection is for us, the misfits, the introverts, the cat loving weirdos; Ms. Andersen gets it and puts it out there for all of us.The art is instantly identifiable and despite the simplicity and awkwardness and nearly non-existent perspective, she manages to cram in an ocean of expression and emotion. I love the style and even the vulnerability. I'm sure I *will* be that old lady calling kitties and puppers chonks and units and (I hope) frens. Sarah's Scribbles has become part of our everyday vernacular; quite an achievement.
Five stars. Highly recommended for anyone who has ever made social plans and then dreaded it like crazy and wished to come down with the bubonic plague to get out of going. This is for those of us who think binge watching true crime dramas alone with a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia sounds like a pretty fun evening.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
In the age of social media, I think everyone has seen at least one of Sarah’s Scribbles. I enjoyed this collection so much.
It touched on anxiety.
Being an introvert.
The love of cats.
Being a proud member of Team Weird!
It’s a quick and joy filled read.
Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for an advanced readers copy of this book. Like her other books, I connected a lot with Oddball. Who doesn’t feel like an outsider at one time or another?
The author, with her drawings, is able to say so much.
This is my first time reading a complete set of Sarah Andersen's work after years of following her on social media. I love how efortlessly relatable it is, it brought me comfort I didn't know I needed. The comics don't follow any particular pattern, they truly feel like a year (or part of it) of the author's life with every day bringing us a new realization of our quirks, likes and dislikes. I'll definitely be checking out her previous published works! Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review
Reading Sarah's journey through life is always a delight. Whatever your generation is, her takes on life, cats, social acceptation (or disturbing) are always sincere, true, funny and hit their goal everytime. Sometimes cynical, sometimes overdramatic, open about life struggles and mental issues, the book reminds us to take care of ourselves and enjoy life even when it's painful.
Sarah Andersen always writes and draws the most relatable content! Every one of her books always makes me smile and laugh which is a much-needed form of relief. I will always pick up her books every time she releases a new one.
Oddball by Sarah Andersen is another set of amazing comics. The comics are completely relatable and very funny.
I always have so much fun reading Sarah's short comics, they are such a joy, it’s impossible not to have a good time reading them.
It’s really incredible how she can create scenarios so relatable to every type of person, it’s a gift.
This book it’s a compilations of a lot of Sarah’s short comics I was expecting a bit more of a continuation between them but ever page it’s a different story, so in the bright side you get a lot of new fun situations but on the bad side they are really short.
Either way, I guarantee people are going to love this book!
“Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review”
Absolutely delightful. As a millenial and catlover you will relate A LOT. I laughed a couple of times and even got my husband to show him a few comics. Great, great fun and highly recommended!
I thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an ARC to read and review.
"Oddball" is a short but delightful read filled with Andersen's cute art style and millennial humor. I've been a fan of hers for a while and I'm glad to see another fun collection come out that's geared towards the strange and weird in all of us! I love that amidst the silly and somewhat dark humor she has comics that are heartfelt and hopeful. If you're a fan of her previous works then this is one to add to your collection!
Mais um livro da Sarah Andersen com tirinhas divertidas e que causam identificação com os leitores - eu mesma me identifico demais por também ser uma pessoa introvertida.
