Sarah’s Scribbles is a comic series – online, and a set of books – celebrating life as an awkward nerd. Something I can entirely get behind! :)
The simple style of the artwork perfectly captures the humour in various, relatable situations. Although there’s no overarching ‘story’, there are recurring themes, including cat ownership, being an introvert, and geeky hobbies. (I cannot tell you how much the I ❤ Frogs strip is just .. me! 🙂 )
If I have any complaints is that there’s not a great deal of material for a review. It’s just… comic strips! Fun ones! Geeky ones! Relatable ones! There’s even a little bit of topicality, given that this was published at the end of 2021, so the pandemic gets a brief mention.
Absolutely recommended, especially for the geeks in your life and anyone who needs a giggle (and who doesn’t, these days?!).
This book was received as an ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I can't get enough of Sarah Scribbles and her hysterical realistic satire that is sweeping the nation by storm. Every page brilliantly conceptualized by Sarah Andersen, was fathomably remarkable to the point where not only I couldn't stop reading, but I had to tell every person I knew about the release of this book and the series, even complete strangers (some were interested, some were in deer in headlights). I could not help but say throughout the book, that's me....I'm Sarah. I also loved the illustrations and how hilariously awkward they were which totally flowed brilliantly with the plot of the book.
A well-conceptualized book with a clever take on realism that is unique it its own way. This book deserves 5 stars.
I love all of Sarah’s work. Her work is so relatable and fun to read. My one thing I wish from this book is that it was longer. It felt so quick. But it was great and silly and I recommend her books all the time. They are a nice pick me up in the world we currently live in.
Sarah Andersen's art truly speaks for me. Not only do I also have a black cat that follows me around, I also deeply love fall, avoid groups of people, and get hyper-focused on things I love. So far I haven't encountered a single "scribble" from Sarah that didn't somehow evoke a deep 'Yes!' from me. The same is true for Oddball, a delightful addition to the Sarah's Scribbles universe. Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. My apologies for the delay.
What makes Sarah Andersen's graphic novels such fun is that for me, a Millennial, they are utterly relatable. Whether it is regretting your "not like other girls"-phase, or the desire to scream about your current obsession, or the desire to give unconditional love and support to your friends, it all comes up in her drawings and it all feels true. What sets Oddball apart a little is that his collection came to life during the start of the COVID-19 epidemic. As such, the content of Oddball in part deals with that weird isolation, with trying to maintain a sense of self and a connection with others while avoiding real life contact. Oddball is perfect to dip in to every now and then for a little pick-me-up. If, like me, you race through it in one go then it is over very quickly, which is a shame.
As such the Sarah's Scribbles collections are all quite similar in tone and design. There is not a whole lot of variety in the style per se, but then this is also a continuous series so a drastic departure of tone and style would be odd. I must also say that Andersen's other project, Fangs, is also quickly becoming a major favourite. While very different from Sarah's Scribbles in look and content, it shares the same dry humour and the same insight. I basically love sending Andersen's cartoons to friends and then we laugh at it, at ourselves, at the world, and it all becomes a little more manageable for those few minutes. And what are books and art for, if not to create a connection and relieve the everyday?
Oddball is a great addition to the Sarah's Scribbles universe. While featuring some favourites, like the dreaded period and the procrastination, it also peers into the awkwardness of youth and the isolation of adulthood.
Full review to be posted soonish.
I would like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
"How did I not read this before and now I want to read all the graphic novels in this series" this was my first reaction after reading a few pages in Oddball, the 4th graphic novel in the Sarah Scribbles series. After My Year of Rest and Relaxation, I wanted to read something light and it can't get any lighter than Oddball. It was a goofy, heart-warming and humorous book that explores various themes like empaths, mental health, synesthesia, pets and many more with a touch of humor and cuteness. I had a good laugh reading this adorable graphic novel with relatable concepts and amusing jokes. I can't wait to read the rest of the novels in the series. I highly recommend this book. Go grab it for a light hearted read and have a good laugh. The only
problem I had with this book is that it is too short. The comic strips from the novel are hilarious and relatable.
So cute!! I love Sarah’s Scribbles and have enjoyed her comics for years. This anthology is definitely worth a read if you have ever seen one of her comics online or just want a funny, relatable read. 5/5 stars
This was a fun comic type book. It was an easy read and I enjoyed some of the humor.. I would recommend for a fun read to take a break.
Loved this one so much. I've been a fan a Sarah Anderson from a long time and this one did not disappoint! This book was funny, quirky, and quite relatable as well as always. Highly recommended!
Favorite introvert and cartoonist on the internet. As always very funny. All Relatable as an awkward introvert pet owner myself. Makes me feel seen and making me smile.
Simple pleasure that these scribbles are.
I've read her Adulthood Is A Myth and Herding Cats. I love Oddball more. I think this book is just for me. She made my day. It's about how an introvert facing the world, how to make ourselves happy. Sounds like cliche but Andersen is exceptional. Yes, this book is a therapy. Comic doesn't have to be colorful. What is the most important is the moral of the story.
I give 5 ⭐️. Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for providing an earc. I am honored.
Sarah Andersen does it again!
Sarah's Scribbles are some of my favorite art/comics. They are so relatable and always make me laugh. I love cats so it is right up my alley :) Oddball is right there with all her other work. Highly recommend to anyone who needs a laugh.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Fun, quirky book that is a continuation of the series created by Sarah Andersen. I loved her features on social media and found her character speak to my inner monologues of the daily, harrowing adventures of been an adult.
I love Sarah Anderson and her little comics.
I love the way she illustrates everyday things funny and relatable.
Naturally I already bought myself all of the comics, inklusive this one.
And I love them. With all my heart. They make me really happy.
I LOVE Sarah Anderson. Everything she posts, I relate so hard to. I can’t say anything bad about her comics. I’ve been following her since before her first book “Adulthood is a Myth.” I would not only recommend this book, I’d buy it for anyone interested in it. Absolutely incredible.
I absolutely love Oddball and Sarah Andersen's sense of humor. The illustrations are great. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Another fun outing from Sarah Andersen. I don't know how it constantly feels like she's in my head but some of these comics were spot on. I enjoyed this set more than her last collection.
Just two words to describe this one: Fun and Adorable!!
This is the perfect book to pick up to take a break and relax from your daily hectic life. It is the kind of book which will be bring a child like happiness and smile to your face once you finish!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!!!!
A cute little read! Always an enjoyable experience if you want to break away from the "just text" mold.
I love Sarah Andersen's books. They're all full of humour and I still laugh just the same amount when I see them again on social media. She is like reading our minds. The things she mentions in her books are small details but she never loses the chance.
There's nothing much to say about her, I truly love her books and her humour.
