My first and definitely won’t be the last book that I will read by Claire Seeber. It was so easy to get swept away and couldn’t stop reading. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to find out what would happen next.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
God I loved this, totally my kinda book full of twists and turns and gossip and all that what goes on behind closed doors business! Great book and one to look out for.
I listened to this on audiobook but also read some of it on ebook too.
Okay so it’s not very often that I find myself unable to finish a book, rarely ever. But unfortunately it has happened with this book, the narrator did a great job I’m sure but there was just way to many characters to keep track of and to remember, I found it all a bit confusing at times.
The story was well written, no doubt about that, but for some reason I just couldn’t engage with the characters or the story plot.
Why was this the worst book I have ever read? Maybe I'm being dramatic and there are definitely worst books out there but omg, I was bored out of my mind.
This is advertised as being “an utterly gripping psychological suspense thriller,” which unfortunately wasn’t the case for me. Due to the synopsis, I was expecting more from this storyline than what I got.
I found the plot dragged in places, with the revelation of secrets taking too long for my preference. There were too many characters to become emotionally invested in, and despite the introduction of all the characters at the beginning of the book, I was still confused about who was who. Although, there was an interesting aspect based on the complex relationship between Alex and her daughter, Iris, who I did find appealing and interesting but didn’t really “grip” me per see.
The main attraction for me is that being a Kent girl, the location of this story is local to me, and helps with the visualisation whilst reading.
Overall, this is an OK read. Not the worst thriller I have ever read, but not the greatest either. If the reader goes in without any expectations, it is readable and probably enjoyable, however, for me, my hopes were too high, and it failed to deliver.
I liked the concept of the story, but the delivery left me feeling quite bewildered as I couldn't connect to the characters and nothing in the writing felt compelling. I didn't find the mystery mysterious. So not for me.
I was really disappointed in this book. I had high hopes and I was left feeling disappointed. It started off really well but after half way it fell flat. I found it to be a bit far fetched and over the top.
Superb read, a really dark and tasty thriller that grabs you from the First page.
The Stepford Wives feel of the other parents was quite creepy and it was almost a relief to find they had plenty hidden away behind the perfect facade, the ending was very satisfying too.
This is my 2nd book by this author, and it did not disappoint. When Patti decides to give her family a new start after her husband's death, she gets to know a group of local parents who seem very welcoming. All of a sudden secrets start spilling out about each other. This was definitely a page turner. Can Patti give her children a do over and stop the turmoil that could destroy them?
What a suspenseful read!
Got this from netgalley this is my first Claire Seeber book but jt won’t be my last at the end it gave snippets of her other books and I was going to say I can’t wait for Street Party but really all of them sound great and are all going on the TBR! This reminds me Lucy Foley books so if you like her this is up your alley- there are a lot of characters but it is written in a way that helps you keep it sorted without being overly detailed or wordy and there is a list at the start for reference (awesome!!!) this story made me think of the tv show the Game and real housewives mixed with Gossip Girl… THE DRAMA but it is also not overdone or to far fetched it tackles real life struggles and things most keep secret also showing the pain of keeping secrets and not being authentic , talks about parenting and being a sport parent and if you have been in sports or have kids in them you know this is already a sess pool for issues and drama … I really liked the story! I wasn’t sure at first with talk of witches and moon cycles etc but that isnt a huge part of the story line and I would said it isn’t really sci fi at all but maybe a touch or hint (maybe sci fi is isn’t the right word but whatever deals with all that stuff) - if you like any of the shows I mentioned , if you like drama, if you like a good “who done it” this is a great book for you
The Parents by Claire Seeber
I was excited to receive The Parents by Claire Seeber because the premise sounded so good. And I can't resist a book, especially a thriller, with a house on the cover (am I the only one? ha!).
Alex suddenly becomes a widow and decides to move to England with her two children. They all want and need a fresh start but soon wonder if they made the right decision. Secrets start to be anonymously exposed among the group of parents of the local football team that Alex's son plays for. And of course, someone does end up dead.
Unfortunately, this one fell a bit flat for me. I found myself not really into the story and it did drag a bit. I give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars.
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced readers copy in exchange for my review.
I typically love multiple point of view stories, as well as domestic thrillers, so The Parents should have been right up my alley! However, I found the writing to be a bit clunky for me. The book was fine, just not great.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy for my kindle. The Parents was an okay psychological thriller for me. I thought there were way too many characters to keep track of. That put me out right away. I also thought this one was slow building. I'm fine with a slow build ever now and then, but not like this. How we, I was invested in the last 20%. That is why I'm giving The Parents 3 stars instead of 2.
Lies, lies, lies! Everyone in this picturesque village has secrets. The perfect facade of harmony and bliss is gradually being chipped away as truths are revealed and lives are changed forever. This book is a family soapy drama about deception and betrayal. Tension builds to a jaw dropping conclusion I could have ever predicted. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.
The Parents by Claire Seeber.
I was excited to read this but unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the 'unputdownable thriller' tag line.
It started out good, but I had to push through most of the 2nd half.
It wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing, but I was hoping for a little more.
2.5 stars
I’m sure others would enjoy this book as it was fairly easy to read and follow, despite the narrative frequently changing between characters. However, I found the storyline a little dull and slow to develop. I was left feeling disappointed with the overall plot once I had finished reading.
A pacy read with plenty of punch and grip to keep me reading on to find out more..first time having read Claire Seeber.
What a unique and thrilling mystery! I wasn’t sure what to expect, it was my first from this author and the blurb was super vague but I really enjoyed it! Yay
2.5 stars, the synopsis d8dnt really match up with the books. Didn't want to finish but pushed through to be able to leave a review.
A bit late posting this review, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, very gripping well worth a read!
