A digital copy of this book was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The 3rd installation of the Detective Amanda Steele series and it's better than the last!
Amanda is called out of court to report to the double homicide of a couple and learns their 6 year old daughter, Zoe, is missing. Amanda finds her hiding and discovers that she witnessed the murder of her father. The killers learn that Zoe is still alive and come after her. Amanda will stop at nothing to protect her. From secrets her parents reveal, investigating the homicides, and keeping Zoe safe, Amanda has almost more than she can handle. The sex-trafficking ring from the previous 2 books makes another appearance. I didn't want to put this book down. Amanda and her partner, Trent's relationship is very strong and they seem to grow a little bit more together.
This book will be published on 9/24/21
Thank you Carolyn Arnold, Bookouture and NetGalley.
The Silent Witness is a heart pounding fast paced read.
Amanda and her partner Trent are called to the scene when the parents of a little girl are murdered in their home and Zoe is missing.
The action is non stop from here on in.
Although this is book 3 in the series, it is my first Amanda Steele book and I had no trouble following the relationships in the book.
I am amazed I have missed this series and I can tell you now that I will backtrack the series (and Carolyn Arnold's other books).
I cant wait to read book 4 in the Amanda Steele series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a great read and opening up a new authour for me.
Great read so glad I got the chance to read and review.
Wow, just brilliant - first 2chapters where a bit dragging slow but then the book warmed up nicely - Amanda searching for answers to Zoe’s parents murder while fighting her own demons of loss from the past - glued page turning loved
3.5 stars-The Silent Witness is the first Detective Amanda Steele Book I have read by this author. While easy to read, this book did not really stand out that much for me. I don't usually make a list of pros and cons but it feels appropriate for this book. Pros: strong female lead, interesting case, and easy to follow along. Cons: predictable, no surprises, and similar to other books I have read. This book was similar enough starting out to other books I have read I went to Goodreads and checked to make sure I had not already read it. I feel like there should be a genre offshoot featuring strong female detectives who have lost their families with major commitment issues. The case is interesting enough but I felt the book almost stalled in the first half before it picked up pace at about 60% mark. The bad guys were not shocking and there really was not any big surprises. This is like easy listening in mystery form. This book would be a good read on days when the nerves were jangled and you need an easy, steady whodunit. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
6 year old Zoe Parker is woken with a start by her parents in the middle of the night, they tell her to play hide and seek as they know a killer has broken in and attacks them both. When Detective Amanda Steele investigates they cannot find Zoe. She is finally discovered hiding in a chest and won’t talk. Steele is put in charge of guarding and looking after Zoe as the killer returns and attacks a close friend and the pair build up a bond.
Following on from previous Steele books, there is an underlying storyline of Steeles husband and daughter who we killed and her mother facing a murder trial, I enjoyed the continuing storyline and development of the characters. A gripping crime thriller and highly recommended.
I hadn't read the other books but it made no difference. Amanda Steele is a driven detective who has known heartache in her life . When a brutal killing of two parents which their young daughter witnessed she is determined to find the killer. What makes it harder is the little girl saw the killer which makes her a target.
Can Amanda protect her without getting emotionally involved, only time will tell.
I enjoyed this book and would read the other books in the series.
This latest installment finds Amanda dealing with a double murder and a little girl that reminds her of her daughter. It's emotional, action packed, and full of suspense and tension. Amanda's character has grown a lot and I really enjoyed her this book.
There are a lot of things from the previous two books that get resolved. There are answers to many questions. It's all wrapped up in this story and the ending leaves things open for a fresh direction for the series. It left me excited for the next book.
Fast paced and suspenseful and twisty read!
We get to see a more emotional side of Amanda as she tries to solve a double murder, protect the 6 year old witness and deal with her mother's trial. I recommend reading the first 2 books to fully appreciate the great character that is Amanda.
The Silent Witness by Carolyn Arnold is the 3rd book in her fantastic Detective Amanda Steele series. Having noted this numerous times, I am a big fan of Arnold, having read most of her series, and I feel this series is the best one yet.
Amanda Steele, our heroine, is a homicide detective in Dumfries, Virginia Police Department. She is called with her partner, Trent to the scene of a multiple homicide; which was a couple that were each shot three times. Upon questioning neighbors, they realize the 6-year-old daughter is missing. While Amanda and team, search the house, she notices the ottoman cover is crooked, and finds the daughter inside traumatized. Amanda fears that the murderer may come after Zoe (child), especially not knowing why her parents were killed. She and Trent begin to slowly unravel the mystery, which is centered on photos taken at random during a vacation, that someone does not want anyone to see. Amanda decides to take care of Zoe to keep her safe, but being buried on the case, who can she trust to watch over the child?
What follows is an exciting, intriguing, pulse pounding mystery that kept me unable to put the book down, especially knowing that Zoe’s life was in danger, as well as shocking revealing clues, who may behind the murder. In the previous book, Amanda found something that hinted at a possible pedophile ring, and she begins to suspect this could possibly be related. To say too much more would be spoilers, and this was a very good story that needs to be read from start to finish.
The Silent Witness was an excellent crime thriller that was suspenseful, intense, and kept us glued to the end. I loved the team of Amanda, Trent & her Sergeant, as well as many of the secondary characters; though I did not like the chief. Amanda is a great heroine, and a fantastic detective. The Silent Witness was so very well written by Carolyn Arnold, and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next. If you like mystery thrillers, police procedural, then you need to be reading this book.
I received an ARC for an honest review through "NetGalley"
The 3rd book in the series has Amanda involved in a double homicide where the parents were killed leaving a six year old daughter who was in hiding. After searching the house for Zoe and not having any luck, Amanda had an idea after search the main bedroom, she discovered a wicker hamper at the end of the bed and believed it was a good hiding place. As luck would have it, she was right and Zoe was found. After taking her to the police station, Zoe wound up going to Amanda's house for the night. Amanda thought it would only be for the night, but it turned out longer because, the 2nd night Zoe went to sty with a friend and that did not work out well. An individual came looking for ZOE and wound up shooting the friend. Amanda was called to the scene, and while searching the shooter they located him and in making his escape he wounded Amanda. In the end, Zoe wound up staying with Amanda where a bond was formed. Zoe originally would not say anything, but as time went by she started talking because of what she felt for Amanda. A sketch was made of the shooter and Zoe identified him as someone that was at her house when her parents were killed, but told Amanda that he was not their killer. Following leads that were developed, they ultimately discovered why the parents were killed and why it was so important to get ZOE.
They were able to develop enough information to determine who was behind this and how it indirectly led to Amanda's previous case where she wound up being suspended.
If you want to discover who was responsible and how the case connected to the earlier case even though it didn't seem that way in the beginning, then you need to read this book. Learn what Zoe's stay created for Amanda.
Behold! Detective Amanda Steele is back with a brand new case!
Plot:- How would you deal with a situation, when both parents are murdered at gun point and the only witness is the six year old girl who was hiding? Zoe Parker saw both her parents being murdered at gun point. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Trent are in charge of this case. While investigating this case, they find that the Parkers were on a vacation in Lake Chesdin, a few days before their murder but their vacation was cut short by returning early. And while investigating, they find out that Zoe Parker's father was a witness to a horrible crime committed at the lake and the detectives think that the they are both related. Then while in school, Zoe Parker was abducted and Amanda and her partner Trent realize that they are running out of time...
Good ones
Gosh, there are so many good things about this book!
* From the first chapter to the end, the story was so gripping that I was literally hooked into the story, not wanting to put the book down!
*I felt like I was watching some sort of acting-packed thriller and I felt like I was sitting at the edge of my seat while reading this book!--it was that good!
*The slow budding developing relationship between Zoe and Amanda sounds so maternal and touching--that Amanda in fact reminded Zoe of her deceased daughter Lindsey which was very touching to read.
*So many of twists and turns, many are unexpected and as I said earlier, quite unputdownable!
*The writing of this was intense, the author did a good job drawing the reader into the story!
*AND I cannot wait for the fourth book to come soon!
Bad things...not many!
Overall, this was an unputdownable, gripping twisty thriller that will keep you up all night!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
This is the third book in the Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold. I loved the first two books in this series and couldn’t wait to read this one and it didn’t disappoint. Amanda and her partner were called to the scene of a double murder of a husband and wife whose young daughter witnessed her father being killed. Amanda is not only searching for a killer but must provide protection for the young girl. This was fast paced and had some surprising twists. I highly recommend this book. Thanks Netgalley for my ARC.
The Silent Witness is book 3 of Detective Amanda Steele series. I loved the first two books, I was expecting alot from this one and was not disappointed! In this book in the series, Amanda is called in to a double homicide of little Zoe's parents, who saw her father being murdered and has been traumatized so badly, she's uncommunicative. Amanda must solve the murders as well as keep Zoe safe while also work to keep from becoming too attached to the little girl who reminds her so much of her own little girl that she's lost and misses desperately. This story is much more emotionally involved than the previous two and I loved that about it after learning so much about Amanda and her family from the earlier books. Still the same great characters and we get a couple of bombs of information thrown in to keep it interesting!
First off like always I want to say a huge thank you to the publisher Bookouture , the author Carolyn Arnold, and to NetGalley for the invite to join this blog tour as well as letting me read and review it.Wow out of the three that I read so far this might be my all time favorite one of them and that's hard to say, in this one you get to our main character Amanda grew more and you see her come more to live in this one, and while the crime is more going forward then meet the eye , and any questions you might have had from the last 2 books will be answered about who is friend or foe , who can be trusted , and secrets will be told. And yes to get a better idea on what is going on you have to read the first 2 books, because they interlink
This is such a great series, and this third book was the best one yet.
Amanda is called to a double murder, and the daughter, a six year old, is missing. When Amanda finds Zoe, the missing girl, she is tasked with the job of protecting her from those who murdered her parents. Amanda's heart is torn with the need to make this little girl's life better, and protecting her heart from the memories of her late daughter. Things with the case get tough, and an old case gets revisited . As always, danger and action seems to be at every turn.
Could not put this one down once I started.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Silent Witness, third book in the Detective Amanda Steele series, is a fast-paced, riveting thriller. In this novel, she is called in to a double homicide where she finds a witness, six-year-old Zoe Parker, daughter of the murder victims. Was it a home invasion, or something more? To add to her duties, the Chief insists that Detective Steele take Zoe home, to care and protect her. A double murder, a mother on trial for murder, the care of a young child who brings back memories of her own dead daughter…. Amanda has quite a lot to deal with in this page turner. Carolyn Arnold brings us another great novel with believable characters and a fantastic storyline. Though I love all of Ms. Arnold’s books, this series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I quite enjoyed the first two books, but I didn’t like this one at all. There was no reason for Amanda Steele to keep the child. The child had a godmother, it added nothing to the story, just took away from it. So cliche, mother of child that dies all sudden gets handed an orphaned child she comes across during her job as a detective.
Detective Amanda Steele has a new case that will take her heart hostage. The murder of a husband and wife presents many questions. Shot in their home during the wee hours of the morning, this seems to be the work of a professional; however, this professional made the mistake of leaving a witness behind. The young daughter of the deceased couple survived the violence by being hidden in a wicker storage piece in the bedroom. As Amanda and her partner try to solve the crime, she also is tasked with keeping the young witness safe. Bringing the child to her home reopens the wounds of losing her daughter and husband. While trying not to get attached to the little girl, the exact opposite happens; the girl connects with Amanda, and their shared grief cements a relationship. When the investigation puts the spotlight on persons in powerful positions, the chase to make those responsible pay will put lives at risk. It's a great book.
This fast-paced and unputdownable crime thriller is easily one of the top 5 thrillers I've read this year. It was filled with twists and surprises and kept me on my toes until the last page. The story is so nicely written and described that it is easy to keep up with all of the characters and twists. You get the opportunity to really get to know the characters which leaves you wanting to solve the crimes. From kidnapping, to murder to a sex-trafficking ring involving high profile characters, this book will leave you stunned.
Thanks NetGalley, Bookouture and Carolyn Arnold for an ARC to review.
The third installment in Detective Amanda Steele series, a double homicide, leaving a 6 years old girl as the sole witness to her parents murder.
A fast paced page turner which will leave you looking forward to Amanda's next case.
Can't wait for book 4!
