Excellent read, always go to author. This book kept me gripped throughout, looking forward to more from this author
'The Nurse' is Nelle's story - of her disappearance and the mystery behind it - but it is also Marian's story. The what's and why's of her behaviour in the when's of the events and with the who's around her make a very interesting plot in itself. I particularly enjoyed reading Marian's accounts more than anyone else's.
As an author, she has been successfully able to educate a reader, living just on the other side of the sea and yet unaware of this so-called 'movement' that has led the main plot in the book. I, for one, would definitely be more careful and aware while I am out of the safer confines of my home after reading this book.
Definitely recommended for readers of psychological thrillers/women's fiction. I would love to read more books by the author.
The Nurse hooked me from the very beginning. Based in N. Ireland first of all meant that I could relate to many aspects of the story and could picture areas being described meant that this book was all the more believable to me.
Marian's daughter, Nell, is a nurse at a local hospital and can do no wrong in her mother's eyes. But when Nell goes missing Marian starts to unravel aspects of Nell's life that she was unaware of. Despite this, Nell was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and happened to be prey to a local incel who took ideas from online forums to seek his revenge on women who have 'wronged' him.
The twists and turns of this book truly had me gasping out loud at times and I truly mean there is a twist of all twists in this book that I did not see coming. As the book came to its climax I truly was on the edge of my seat. When I say that this book is amazing I am not lying, it is a must read! The focus on incel groups is chilling but gives a true insight to these men and it is truly terrifying but gives the reader a chance to question what would I do in this situation.
I would 100% recommend.
Me, a nurse. Reading about the worst possible thing that can happen to a human being, but who also happens to be a nurse. Okay, sign me in. A heartbreaking story that had me flying through this book like I was drinking water on a hot day. I simply could not put it down.
Taut. Tight. REAL. WOW. this was an excellent read that i could not put down. This was a very well plotted book.. I liked the whole premise of it and it was written quite well!! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!
3.5 star tense thriller. The Nurse makes for chilling reading as it focused on an INCEL group on the dark web: a group of involuntary celibates who blame women for their problems. They feel slighted and overlooked and harbour a lot of hatred towards women. It is a group, where they find solace in each others' gripes, but also dangerously whip each other up into a frenzy and encourage each other in malicious behaviour towards women. A few of the men take their hatred to another level, making videos of the women being stalked as they walk alone. One decides to take his punishment of women to another level and a young nurse Nell is the unwitting victim. The novel is told from the perspective of HIM, Nell herself and Nell's distraught mother. A quick and tension filled read with a great twist towards the final chapters. A little slow in places, but binge-worthy and you won't want to put it down. The perfect summer thriller for a quick nail biting read. #thenurse #claireallan #netgalley #thriller #summerthriller #bingeworthyread #unputdownable
OMG this book scared me. It was a very different storyline from what Im used to reading and it suprised me that we heard more from the other characters than the nurse herself.
Even though I had purchased a physical copy of this book, I would still like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for also providing a copy for me to read and review.
Honestly so far, this is my least favourite from this author. Don't me wrong, it's not terrible but the plot just didn't grip me as much as other books. I didn't find myself particularly excited to read on, or massively intrigued. It wasn't boring and it flowed steadly, but definitely not my favourite.
A brilliant book
Absolutely loved this from the first page to the last
You will not want to put it down
Thanks NetGalley
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. WOW!!! What a story!! A creepy thriller that kept me on the edge all the way through the book! Sooooo hard to put down so it was a quick read. The story is told from multiple POV - I love to know what all of the characters are thinking. Definitely recommend!! 5 stars!!
This book was creepy and an interesting start. The character development was great, but it fell a bit flat for me. Nothing drew me back to it when I put it down. I ended up not finishing it, it started off promising, but just wasn’t for me.
I love Claire Allen’s book and The nurse didn’t disappoint.
Its a good story based on solid foundations. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and just the right pace.
I did find the basis and detail of the story hard to read at times. Appreciate its true to life and it happens, possibly needs a trigger warning.
I am a huge fan of Claire Allan’s thrillers and this one didn’t disappoint. It had me hooked right away and shocked me with a twist near the end. I really love a book when you don’t see the twist coming. I also like the fact her books are set in Northern Ireland,. It makes you feel as if you know the people in the story and makes you feel connected to them. I would highly recommend this book and you really need to read the rest of them as well. You won’t regret it.
Great read. Disturbing in parts. It would make you think twice about going out alone after dark in any town. It gives an insight in the dark side on the internet.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It covers a difficult subject so was not the easiest book to read, but it was well written and the twists and the tension kept me engrossed, would definitely recommend.
The Nurse by Claire Allan was utterly brilliant! I have read all of Claire’s books but this is in another league. The book is told from different viewpoints and is about a missing person. The title of the book is ambiguous it really gives nothing away about this hard-hitting, engrossing, addictive thriller. There are four main characters and without giving anything away, one of them has a major shift in their behaviour and thinking. At first I found this 180° change in personality quite jarring but it made sense as the story went on. I adored the minor characters also and could imagine a whole series based around Heather the policewoman in the PSNI. I am really impressed with this book I devoured it and I’m already Looking forward to the next. Everyone is obsessed with Derry Girls at the moment and Claire Allen is one Derry girl who deserves all the accolades.
This psychological thriller inspired by contemporary issues is dark and disturbing. Nell, a nurse, goes missing, and the story unfolds from her mother Marian and an anonymous male voice who instigates the activity that leads to Nell's disappearance.
It's topical, well-researched, and hard to read because of its believability. Relatably flawed characters and a menacing ethos make this a compelling read that resonates.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.
A nurse, Nell Sweeney, was kidnapped on her way home from work. Nell's parents were shattered and in the course of the events that followed their marriage crumbled. The story was told in multiple POVs that kept me gripped to the story to know who could have taken a prank of scaring women to kidnapping. This was a dark web of tangled weaves, that had me shuddering and feeling happy that I worked from home. A good, slightly darker read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and and review this book. It was a really great read. An unsettling storyline that hooked me from the beginning. Good writing and characters made this a very enjoyable book that I’d highly recommend!
This thriller DID NOT DISAPPOINT!This book had intrigue, suspense, and a very interesting storyline. It is a well written story told from the point of view of three of the characters with enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a story about a young nurse named Nell, that while trying to find some fun in her life turns up missing. Creepy, dark and disturbing at time. I enjoyed it very much!
