I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly the kind of story I was expecting, but yet it was stoll thrilling. Would recommend.
Absolutely brilliant and unputdownable book.
I read a lot of thrillers and I was pleasantly surprised by how unique and original this book is; I recommend highly!
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy. It was my pleasure to write an honest review!
Well where do i start. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review. I really enjoyed this book i enjoyed the twists in the story. A very good read
Gripping story with great characters, three women looking for love think they have found the one online only to find out that their perfect man isn't who they thought he was.
So many plot twists, a captivating read.
I was given a copy of Just Another Liar by NetGalley and the publishers in return for an unbiased review.
This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley. Three women want a happy ending with…the same man. The characters are quirky…
A darker read than the title and cover would lead you to believe. A really good mystery based around online dating. Three women, one man. All fall in love with David who they have not met yet. He loves them too. A really gripping story of scamming, lies and fraud. Three very different woman. A stunning read with a great finale.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A little different from the norm. Twisty, unpredictable. Well written. It kept me interested throughout. Recommended.
An 8ntriguing read. Denise Petra and Anna become connected after joining an online dating site. The connection is David Kingfisher. All 3 women are " in a relationship" with this mystery man . A clever plot and a great debut by this author. The suspense certainly increases with each page . Look forward to reading more from this author
Anyone who has ever done online dating will relate to this book. Or anyone who has ever been let down by a guy or stood up...or lied t....or mislead by a man. Its a thrilling book and you cannot guess which way its going to go. The 3 women are so well written, especially the woman who is taking care of her manipulative mother. A good read, I got through it in a couple of days. Worth a read.
This story centres round three women, Anna, Denise and Petra. They’re all very different but have one thing in common, they’ve all been online dating and fallen for the charming David Kingfisher.
Of course, he’s too good to be true and always has an excuse as to why he can’t meet up. After Denise lends him a lot of money, she puts a message out on social media to see if anyone knows who he is. The three women meet up and form an unlikely group on a mission to find out who David Kingfisher really is.
Romance fraud is a very topical and current issue and I thought it was portrayed well. The vulnerabilities of the women are exploited by the fraudster, and they’re manipulated to provide money or explicit images.
The plot was quite good with plenty of red herrings. I had a few people I suspected were Kingfisher, but only guessed correctly a few pages before it was revealed. At times, it did plod along a little bit, but the pace really picks up towards the end.
I didn’t really like any of the characters apart from Denise, I felt sorry for her and found her to be the most relatable character.
Petra seems to have a tic where her leg jumps when she’s feeling nervous or stressed. I felt this was mentioned so much to the point it became irritating. Unless I missed something, I’m not sure what this added to the story?
The ending is fine. I was pleased to see a certain character get their comeuppance but I can’t say I was wowed by the reveal of Kingfisher.
Overall, I did enjoy the book. It held my interest and was something a bit different for me.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK, Avon Books and NetGalley for a copy to review.
Just Another Liar follows the story of David. Three women love him but he’s lying to them all. Denise, Petra and Anna all have their reasons for being alone but David seems to be the answer to their problems. However, they’ve only met him online. Each woman wants a happy ending but who if any them will get it?
This is a very typical psychological thriller that keeps you hooked throughout. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
3.5/5.
I found this novel intriguing from the description. Three women all involved with on line dating for various reasons, but the object of their affections is not who they seem.
I mostly enjoyed this novel but did find the various points of view quite confusing. There were parts of it that I found did not add anything to the story and just confused things. I did not see the ending at all but it did leave me feeling it was very contrived.
Overall it was an enjoyable read. Thank you to Netgalley for my ARC copy of this novel
Wow that was not the way I thought this book was going to go. This is a fast placed dark thriller about internet catfishing and a group of women thrown together after meeting David online. As their lives are torn apart in the search for this mystery man this book take a surprising turn as it comes crashing to its conclusion.
I saw this book recommended on a Facebook group I'm in and loved the cover; it's an eye-catching design. As a fan of mysteries, thrillers, and psychological fiction, this seemed right up my street, and I couldn't wait to read it.
The plot is a great idea. It is an accurate portrayal of the perils of online dating, which is so popular nowadays and a great example of what happens when things go wrong and how things and people aren't always as they appear. The three main female characters discover all is not sunshine and roses and become amateur detectives to try and find the identity of the 'One' that they have all fallen in love with, David Kingfisher.
It's evident to the reader that Dr David Kingfisher isn't whom he says, but it's not clear at all to Denise, Anna and Petra. After one of their posts on Facebook, they find each other, trying to find out if anyone has seen him after he stops contact, following her 'lending' him some money. It turns out Petra is in the same situation, though Anna, who is not, is convinced it's just that he is fed up with those girls and is in love with her. The story is told from numerous perspectives of each female and the liar himself.
Each of the three main characters come from a different but equally sad backgrounds. Denise is the most likeable, and I sympathised with her. She cares for her mother, who isn't very nice; she's overweight and lives a miserable and solitary life. Anna desperately seeks love to forget about her past heartbreak, and Petra is married to Sam in a marriage that isn't going so well. Both Anna and Petra are more complex characters, but neither felt likeable and were quite competitive for no apparent reason aside from looks. All three are gullible and the perfect target for such a crime.
While I enjoyed this debut novel, I struggled a little with the slower pace than I am used to. In addition, while the writing shows promise, it's not yet up to standard with other authors who can build incredible suspense, such as Adele Parks.
I didn't see the big twist coming at all, which made for a good ending but unfortunately, I just found that after that twist, I got a little confused, and it didn't flow so well for me, though it was a faster pace which was nice.
This is a substantial three-star read from me and a great start to a promising career.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't too sure what to make of this book, the blurb had me intrigued and keen to read it - Internet dating and 3 women being catfished, OK I'm interested.
However I found the story went on way too long, none of the characters were likeable and there were too many characters (trying to be red herrings maybe?)
I felt the build up was too long and the ending had me all kinds of confused, how we could come to that conclusion when there was barely a hint in the story I still don't know.
Also something else really annoyed me throughout but it would be a spoiler so can't even mention it.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for my eARC in return for my honest review.
JUST ANOTHER LIAR - MANDY BYATT
4⭐
Denise, Petra and Anna all have their reasons for being alone.
David Kingfisher is the answer to all their problems..but they have only met them online.
Each woman wants a happy ending but only 1 can get it and one will end up dead.
But which one?
MY THOUGHTS -
The book did take time to get into the plot and after halfway things started getting interesting with all the plot twists!
I had my guess as to the person responsible ...though I wasn't aware of the motive ..
The character development of all the 3 female characters was done well.
The concept of online dating and it's drawbacks being incorporated into a debut thriller...a good job by the author.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Aargh, I don't know where to start with this. I'm torn. Ok, let's start with the problematic content. While reading this book it was very clear the author placed a lot of relevance on how people looked. When describing the characters the author used their appearance to determine their worth. Without giving too much away a character was described as disgusting and grotesque and their house was filthy which are damaging stereotypes of those who are overweight. It's like she thought overweight people were unworthy of love and were lazy. There was another character that was “fat” and was always being referred to because of her size and it turns out she is a size 12. It was just very uncomfortable to read.
Then we move on to the sexual assaults that some of the main characters faced. It wasn’t really dealt with until a token consequence towards the end. It wasn’t tackled well at all. The book could have done so much more to address the issues of sexual assault and the dangers of online dating but sadly it fell flat.
The book was also a bit disjointed at times and it was difficult to follow who’s perspective it was because it jumped with no warning.
It disappoints me that this book had these issues because it put a dark cloud over the full thing. It could have been so good. The plot was great and I loved the twists, some I saw coming and others I didn’t.
This debut thriller has some great twists and 3 strong leading female characters that I could easily see transferring across to the screen.
Denise, Petra and Anna have little in common until they meet Dr David Kingfisher online. They believe that they have met someone who will give them what they need in their lives but things are rarely what they appear to be on the internet.
I honestly didn’t see the conclusion of this coming in a novel that started off quite slowly. The second half is considerably stronger than the first half with the exception of one issue which still doesn’t quite make sense to me, hence the docking of a star. A great stab at a first novel though!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Avon, Harper Collins for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
An intriguing story of Internet dating gone very wrong. We are introduced to the main characters as they meet then try to track down an elusive man they have only met on-line. He is very plausible but who is he and can they get back what they need. Twisty, the story has an unexpected outcome.
Just Another Liar was a book I wasn’t sure I was going to like when looking at reviews for this but I did actually like it a lot.
David Kingfisher, who is he??? That was my main question throughout this book and I never guessed correctly so that was a bonus for me. Three women at different stages of their lives and indeed leading very different lives decide to online date for various different reasons. They find out that they are all dating the same man, David Kingfisher but non of them have actually met him, they’ve texted each other and even spoken to him on occasions but none have met him. He has sent a picture of himself and obviously the one used on the dating app but even though they’ve never met him they think he’s the best thing since sliced bread until he asks for something off the women and there’s not a chance they are getting it back.
I thought the start was a little slow but it did speed up after a third of the way in. I did genuinely like the characters of the women and did think how many times does this kind of thing happen? There were a lot of red herrings along the way which kept me off finding out who the real David Kingfisher was.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
