A mystery/thriller that throws in a little women's fiction along the way. Lawyer Jessica "Jay" Wells has a perfect life, she thinks. She's a defense lawyer and her new client has convinced her he is innocent. The investigation is moving along but Jay feels certain she can prove he's not guilty, but she is sure he's hiding something. When Jay's husband shares his secret with her, the inside of her life does not look as perfect as the outside. While not an original story line, Susan Lewis does a good job of mixing personal and professional to add depth to the characters. I have several people in my reading group who will enjoy this book.
What a phenomenal read! When Jessica “Jay” takes on a murder case to defend Edward Blake in the murder of his wife, you will not want to out this down. This book takes you in a wild ride of who did it. I really enjoyed the characters in this book.
I received an eARC of I Have Something to Tell You by Susan Lewis from Harper 360 and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I give this book 3 stars. This was a slow read for me, but overall a decent one.
I liked this book, found it very suspenseful and the characters were enjoyable. I enjoyed the dynamics of the relationships and found myself flying through the pages. 'm looking forward to reading more by Susan Lewis.
I Have Something to Tell You by Susan Lewis was a thriller that I couldn't put down! Ms. Lewis's characters are lifelike and relatable, and I wanted to know more about Jessica and her life.
Jessica Wells is a lawyer who has a client that may have killed his wife. She believes he is innocent but even if he's not it is her job to defend him. She is juggling home, her husband and his problems (no spoilers) and multiple cases but she always finds time for Edward Blake - accused wife murderer.
She wants nothing more than to prove that Edward is innocent - but is he? Things aren't looking great for him; the police believe he is a murderer, but Jessica doesn't. Is she getting too involved? Will this cloud her judgement?
Lots going on in this book and I loved it. I wanted to know more about Jessica's life and as a reader, I felt her pain and sorrow and heartache loud and clear. I can't wait to read more from Ms. Lewis!
absolutely loved this book and kept me excited to keep
Reading. Will read more from this author
Thank you
I Have Something to Tell You follows Jessica (or Jay) when she takes on a case to defend a man who is accused of killing his wife. The accused, Edward is not your typical client, he is not cold hearted or cruel so her heart goes out to him while he talks about his wife and his life. Through conversations with him and his family who think he could never do something like that, she senses they are all hiding something so she must uncover what they are hiding. Jay pieces things together but the combination of her personal family issues and the actual case throws off the balance. The book could have focused less on her family issues but that is just a personal preference and didn't stop me from liking the book. There is a twist which is to be expected but still great until the very end
Thank you NetGalley for providing this book for an honest review. I was very excited to read this book. I was hooked from the beginning. Susan Lewis does a beautiful job drawing in the reader!! There were many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. This book is a definite read!!
Whoa! I Have Something to Tell You blew me away. I read this in one sitting, finishing as the sun was coming up and living every word. Susan Lewis is one hell of a storyteller.

This is a pretty good contemporary mystery/thriller. Jessica "Jay" Wells is a high-profile criminal defense attorney outside of London. She is married to Tom, a criminal barrister, and they have two college-aged children. When Edward Blake, a well-known architect and developer, is arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Jay is hired by the family to represent him. The family insists that there is no way that Ed killed his wife, and are desperate for Jay to free him.
Edward is not Jay's typical client. He does not seem cold, hard, cruel or manipulative. Her heart goes out to him and her gut tells her he's innocent. As Jay begins to investigate the murder and try to clear Edward from the crime, she gets the sense that the family is hiding something. Slowly Jay pierces the family's secrets, but is it enough to set Edward free? As Jay deals with Edward's case, she uncovers secrets in her own family as well, and like Edward's, it will never be the same again.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I did have issues with the uneven pacing. The book started off fairly well, but as it alternated between Jay's case and her family troubles, the momentum dragged. Without going into spoilers, the secrets of Jay's family was not unexpected or original, and took up far too much time of the book. I didn't need to know every inner thought that she had, and better editing to shrink down this part of the book would greatly help it. Clocking in at 512 pages, this book would be better served at around 400 pages instead.
The twists and turns of Edward's case were written better. While some of the twists were predictable, others were not. Where the author really lost me was in Jay's actions toward the last third of the book. They seemed so completely out of character and inconsistent with her behavior in the rest of the book, I just didn't buy it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and HarperCollins. All opinions are my own.
3 stars (or slightly less)
This one was, in my opinion, mediocre at best. I took a break of several weeks from it partway through, not because it was awful but because it just wasn’t holding my attention the same way other stories were. I didn’t love anything about it; I know this writer is popular and successful, so maybe it’s just that something about her style isn’t for me. Some of the characters were okay, but several felt like a combination of badly-written tropes and just downright irritating traits and speech patterns. The plot was alright, but I thought it was going to be more focused on the mystery/thriller elements, and the family drama arc kind of took over. I’m normally a fan of multiple plot lines being woven together, but again, something here just didn’t work for me; I almost felt like the romance/relationship drama arc was largely unnecessary, at least to the extent that it was dragged out. The ending, even the entire last third/quarter, was just odd to me and felt unbelievable in a fairytale-like kind of way that didn’t seem to fit with the characterization or plot development of the rest of the story. This one just wasn’t for me, and while I won’t completely disregard the writer’s other books in the future, they probably won’t be at the top of my TBR list.
I want to say I loved this book but I am afraid I didn’t, which is a real shame as I loved My Lies, Your Lies. But this was too predictable. I guessed the twist right at the beginning and I was waiting for other great reveals which just didn’t happen
Weeelllll shhhnnaahhpppsss!! 😳
What a fabulous psychological thriller of a defence attorney being thrown round and round about a murder involving her client. The entire time I had NO idea what was coming and completely blind-sided by the killer! And all the crazy family issues & secrets; plus Jay's own life issues! Such a great, engaging, well done novel! I couldn't get enough of this slightly longer novel - which suited me just fine because I didn't want it to end. Man did my brain take major whiplash from it all!
Thanks to netgalley for this read.
I give this a strong 4 / 5 snowflakes! ❄️
Great new release from Susan Lewis! I Have Something to Tell You follows high-flying lawyer, Jessica Weeks as she represents Edward Blake when he is accused of murdering his wife. As Jessica comes to terms with the breakdown of her own marriage, she is forced to push herself and fight for justice for Edward.
Lots of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Highly recommended for all!
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley and HarperCollins in exchange for my honest review
Whew. A lot happens in this one. Right from the very beginning it reels you in with the opening line "Suspected wife-killer, line two."
When lawyer, Jay Wells takes the case of Edward Blake, suspected of killing his wife, she takes on more than she could have imagined.
What I loved ~ The multiple mysterious questions , surrounding the men in Jay's life, waiting to be answered. I really loved the character development of the B characters as well as the overall plot. I really enjoyed the author's writing style. It flowed well and really grabbed your attention.
What wasn't my favorite ~ The lack of character development of the main character, Jay. Some of her relationships felt codependent. Maybe that was on purpose? She felt too shallow of a character overall to me.
Overall, as a whodunit, I give this one 4 stars.

Edward Blake just came across his wife bound on their bed and very much…dead!
He claims his innocence and quickly hires Jessica Wells to represent him.
Is there more to the dashing Mr. Blake? Can Jessica secure his freedom? More importantly, will Jessica come away from this case unscathed?
Another case of very unlikable characters. I had a hard time with Jessica’s behaviors as a lawyer. And her husband, well the only word to describe him would be…despicable.
This was my first read by this author. It is a lengthy book, and I found the pace to be rather slow at times.
Though this was not a favorite read, I would be interested in trying another book by this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360
This thriller was so well done! I was hooked from the very beginning. I love a book that just keeps me on my toes and this did just that.
2.5 stars. I really liked the first 3/4 of this book - it was a good mystery and I liked Jay - she was a strong, smart female. I absolutely hated her husband, Tom - he was so self absorbed and just an all around awful person. But the last 1/4 of the book ruined it for me - it became more like a mushy romance novel that I would never read. Jay turned into a teenager constantly gushing over her new love. And I did not like the ending at all. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.
Jessica and Tom are married. Jessica, a hard working attorney and Tom, the supportive doting husband.
When Jessica takes on a high profile case of a man, Edward Blake, killing is wife in cold blood. The thing is Edward claims he was downstairs watching television while his wife was being murdered in the spare bedroom upstairs. How is that even possible. Could it be possible that Edward is trying to protect someone? Nothing is lining up and Jessica is determined to figure out what happened and bring justice against the real killer.
The thing is......... not everything is as it seems, right?
Is Blake innocent? Jessica is starting to think so. Is Jessica's own husband hiding secrets from her?
This is one of those books that when you start you just cant help but keep going. I was completely addicted within the first chapter. This is a highly suspenseful book filled with twists and turns and an ending that will leave you speechless.
Let me start by saying don’t be misled by the blurb because it’s misleading. This was a great novel about lawyer Jay and her barrister husband Tom. Jay is called to represent a man, Edward Blake after he is arrested for murdering his wife. Everything is very unclear and honestly, it seems to be a hasty arrest, but Edward is arrested for tying his wife to a bed and smothering her. All the while, Jay is still trying to recover from her husband Tom’s indiscretions a few years prior, and just as she thinks she may have a grasp on it, he has something to tell her. I won’t mislead you like the blurb, his “something” has nothing to do with Edward Blake’s case, so don’t go into this thinking something that’s not accurate. And FYI, this isn’t a spoiler, it’s irrelevant.
I won’t lie, this seemed like the longest book ever. Honestly, that seems the norm lately. But seriously, whereas I usually finish a book in 2-3 hours, this took at least 5. Jay is representing Edward and with help from her investigative team, she is trying to discover other suspects and cause for releasing her client. Meanwhile, her home life is completely falling apart. Not only has she been deceived multiple times, it seems that all of her friends are mutual friends of her and her husband so they want things to work themselves out. At times, I found myself frustrated with Jay’s complacency, but after I thought about it, I realized that she had no singular friends that were not also friends with her husband.
This one had all kinds of twists and turns and then at about 82% things seemed to be resolved, however, I knew some kind of twist was coming. I will say that I knew what the twist was, however, I wasn’t sure how it would be presented. And then….. The ending came…. Susan Lewis is a new to me author but I have decided that she must have a dark and twisted side in order to be able to finish a book like that.
What the hell happened???
I Have Something to Tell You had me hooked from page 1. I felt that it dragged out a bit too much and the ending absolutely infuriated me, but overall, this was a great read. Despite my anger at the ending, I give this a sturdy 4 stars!
