I originally gave this a 4 but after a month, I came back to change it to 5 stars because I truly cannot stop thinking about this book. It's no secret that I love Renée Ahdieh's writing, I've posted her books MANY times. She continues to astound me with her characters and the ability to suck me into a story so fast. This books focuses on Pippa and Arjun's story, which was a pleasant move on from Bastien and Celine. I sometimes struggle when a series shifts character focus but this was done extremely well and when I tell you I was INVESTED in Pippa and Arjun.
Which brings to me to the best part of this book: PIPPA AND ARJUN. I LOVE THEM. Dare I say even more than Bastien and Celine. The pure serotonin I was getting from their interactions led to so many screaming voice notes to my friend who buddy read with me. The tropes were spot on and I got my FAVORITE trope, which is terms of endearments in another language and it makes me so happy.
One of the reasons this was originally a four was because the plot outside of the character growth was a tad weak but honestly I don't even care, I was grinning like an idiot during this entire read. And uh the ending??? Way to end a book, oh my goodness. I have so many questions and will be staring outside my window until the next book releases.
The Damned series really has been quite a ride, while the series has an overall cohesive vibe, each book really has taken on a personality of its own. We started our journey in the dark underbelly of New Orleans and now our characters have find themselves in a totally different realm in the land of fae.
While it is hard to write a review for a third book in a series and not even the last book at that, I will say that this one was probably my favorite in the series. Why? PIPPA AND ARJUN. I really don't care what happens to anyone else at this point in the series but if you hurt my babies Renee then I will be seriously doubting my overall love for this series as a whole. Can the next book please have their POVs. For the love of all that is good and pure. Honestly their backstories were so well done, and their connection was so sweet. Any time the book was on their POV's I was hooked. I loved the magic system in these chapters along with the twist that I didn't see coming but really really enjoyed.
I was a little taken aback by how Celine and Bastiens relationship feels at this point. I feel like a lot of their chemistry has fizzled and Celine almost feels like a different character as she plays puppet to certain characters in this book. The ending was a little out there. There was A LOT to take it. It was like a band of all the evil villains came together and made a statement but you're not quite sure exactly what that statement was and who's on the right side of good vs. evil.
I definitely will go on to read the last book in this series, but mainly just to see if I get more of PIppa and Arjun, because currently at this point, this is what my heart has come to care about.
After one of The Court of the Lions own gets mortally wounded, it's left to Arjun to make a journey between realms to find a healer. Meanwhile Pippa has been looking for Celine and she ends up following Arjun into a very dangerous situation.
Usually what happens to me is that, by the third in a series, I'm getting tired of the characters and how they keep making the same mistakes. With The Righteous, I didn't have that problem. I really enjoyed the switch in the story to following Pippa and Arjun. They were able to break up the narrative in a way that kept the main plot progressing, while at the same time, kept the reader from getting too fatigued by Celine and Bastien's relationship. Pippa and Arjun actually became my favorite characters. The ending definitely left me wanting to know more and I'm very interested to see what happens in the final book but so far this one has been my favorite. For me, this was a 4/5.
If you like getting married to save a life, a woman handy with a sword, or have ever thought traveling to a land of faeries would be fun, this is the one for you.
I received a digital copy of this book free from Penguin Young Readers Group and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Was The Righteous what I was expecting? No. Did I still love it? Yes!! While I was really worried that I wouldn’t like this because in the middle of a series the author decided to make some side characters the main characters of this book. I love Celine and Sebastian and was a little hurt that I wouldn’t be reading about them, and would be instead reading about Pippa and Arjun. I am so glad that Ahdieh decided to do this because I really love where this book went and Pippa and Arjun are *chefs kiss*.
I will say that the beginning of this is slow and I didn’t like that there wasn’t really any action, when The Damned left off with so much happening. Once I got about a third of the way in, things started to pick up and I could not put this book down. I will forever love Ahdieh’s writing style and become entranced with the world she creates. I like how we learned SO much more about the fae world. The slow burn between Pippa and Arjun was everything, although I was disappointed there wasn’t more!
The ending was absolutely chaos, but in the best way possible. I have so many questions and was entirely too stressed reading the last like 50 pages. I am really excited with the way this series is going and how it will wrap up in the last book. Also, no spoiler’s but if you’ve read this that ending !?!?! OMG! If you know you know.
The only downside to this is that we do see a tiny bit of Celine and Sebastiana and honestly I did not like Celine. She didn’t feel like the same character from the first two books. I can’t put my finger on what it was, but I honestly didn’t care for reading her parts. I still loved Bastien just as much! I do wish that one of the main points of this book would have been figured out and completed, because I feel like a lot of things happened towards the end and I am scared what that means for the final book. A lot has to be wrapped up.
I am really glad that Ahdieh decided to go this route because it kept my entertained and added so much more to the plot.
This book reminded me of stars in a dark velvet sky. It captivated me from the first words, sent shivers up my arms. I loved the first two in The Beautiful series so much, and I am so glad the adventures continue! The writing was lush, decadent, glamorous, and yet had just enough edge and grit. I could experience every sense, feel every emotion. I loved traveling to a new world that was akin to a dreamy nightmare, but through everything, I felt like I was still within The Beautiful universe. The dynamic between the two main characters was breathtaking, and my stomach filled with butterflies at every occurrence of banter. I wanted to live in this world forever and get lost in it. With every plot twist, I became more and more submerged in the story to where I never wanted it to end. The Gothic atmosphere woven through each page was so beautiful it almost stopped my heart. I will re-read this book and this gorgeous series for years to come!
If you thought that The Beautiful and The Damned were hauntingly beautiful books that sank their fangs into you, just wait for the spell The Righteous is about to cast on you. The haunted streets of New Orleans are traded for the snow-filled forests of the Sylvan Vale; beautifully expanding Ahdieh's world and making you wish you could live in it. Celine and Bastien have gone into a world they aren't quite prepared for, Odette is clinging to her undead life, Pippa is missing her best friend and is being haunted by her past, and Arjun is waiting to be held to the oath he made to save his family. Despite so many stories, The Righteous will tell you all of them and will hook you with each story line. You'll learn more about all your favorites, but you'll fall in love with Arjun and Pippa- at the same time that their feelings for one another become impossible for them to ignore. The last 50 pages are a whirlwind of emotions and the end will literally leave you gasping and marveling at Ahdieh's genius. Ahdieh's prose, as always, is lyrical and utterly engrossing. The Righteous is a story of family, friendship, mystery, perseverance, and romance, and one that will leave you begging for book 4. Do yourself a favor and pick this up the day it hit stores; or even better, pre-order it and receive a gorgeous pre-order gift.
3.5/5 Stars: THE RIGHTEOUS was an interesting book in that Renee Ahdieh deviates from her dual POVs of Celine and Bastien and gives us POVs from Pippa and Arjun for the majority of the book. We also get snippets from Michael Grimaldi and other auxiliary characters. Ahdieh also gives us a major expansion of the world of THE BEAUTIFUL by taking us deep into the heart of the land of the fey. For the most part, I thought that these choices paid off. Pippa and Arjun were a really sweet pair to watch as they find their fates intertwined as Arjun searches for a healer for Odette and Pippa tries to figure out what happened to Celine. The banter and the romance between them was to die for and made me smile more often than not. Ahdieh's writing style and sense of romance remains absolutely impeccable and her prose is flawless. I really enjoyed seeing more of how the Sylvan Vale and Sylvan Wyld worked and the different power dynamics and characters at play there. At the same time, though, there were times when the complex world-building and the multiple POVs made me feel confused as to what was going on, especially towards the latter half of the book. However, I still remain an avid fan of Ahdieh and this world, this story and these characters. THE RIGHTEOUS is a story about the lengths we'd go to to help those we love, and the unexpected connections made when we follow our hearts.
Renée Ahdieh never fails to miss with her books and "The Righteous" is no exception to that rule. Ahdieh's writing is just phenomenal as we follow Pippa, on the hunt to find Celine, and Arjun, trying to save Odette, when the two of them both end up in the fae realm (EEEEEE!!!), where nothing is as it seems. I love to see the spotlight in Pippa, and while I wasn't the biggest fan of her in the previous books, I loved how her story was developed and we got to see so much more insight into who she is. While Ahdieh's writing is truly a joy to read, I must say that this book is certainly character-driven and relatively slow paced, but the characters and lush setting make it overall an enjoyable read. I CANNOT wait for the final installment in the series and I dont know how I'll be able to wait this long after that ending!
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Teen for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review!
What an ending! Yet another masterfully woven story by Renee Ahdieh and a wonderful addition to the series. I’m obsessed with Pippa and Arjun! I loved getting to know more of their backstories, especially Pippa’s. She was such a mystery to me in the previous books. She and Arjun make an incredible team and I liked reading about how the attraction between them grew the more they learned about each other. This book introduced more of the fey world, and all is not as it seems. The mystery that shrouded the previous two books doubled in this one, and I was left with more questions than answers. There is so much left unknown about the Vale and its inhabitants, and I think the way the book ended is the perfect setup for the next one. While I missed the characters from the Court of Lions, I did love getting to know the fey characters. I’m completely enamored by this world and these books! *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Can I just say that Renée Ahdieh is the queen of wham, bam, crazy cliffhanger endings that leave you reeling while you wait for the next installment?! I am so sad that I have to wait for the final book to be published! This book read like a fantasy romance more than adventure and I was here for it.
This is the third book and I think the story REALLY takes a turn in this one. We leave New Orleans behind....and Celine/Bastien who? Time to meet the newest couple - Pippa and Arjun. And I miiiiiight have to say…..are they my new favorite couple of the series?! I love forced proximity and here is a fantastic one! The way they slowly open up to each other in a way they haven't with anyone else is lovely to read and I felt like their romance was the sole focus of most of this book (which I can't complain about honestly). The way Arjun respects Pippa and wants her to make choices for herself without any coercion despite his own feelings is fantastic.
I have to say, this book seems much different from the series. Not only does it take place away from New Orleans, but we also don’t see The Court of Lions. There is a new court and a whole new cast of characters to focus on. It’s also more of a slow burn; setting up the romance and the drama ahead. I didn’t dislike it, but it took me longer to adapt to these bigger changes and get into the stories. By the end though I was completely invested and now after that cliffhanger…. WE WAIT FOR MORE .
Thank you to PenguinTeen for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Any book that leaves me on the edge of my seat or finger ready to get to the next page is always one to hype about.
I loved the character development in this third installment. The culture being embraced was another thing I really enjoyed to read about.
Read the book of course read the first two first but read them. I recommend them!!
What the heck was that ending?!?! I'm reeling, this was phenomena, truly enjoyed this one and made up for my lack of interest in the first book! I'm just speechless at the moment!! Without a doubt an amazing read!!!
This is the perfect third book in this trilogy that is actually a quartet! Thank you to the publisher for sending me the widget which I co-read alongside the physical ARC. I absolutely loved following Pippa and Arjun in their dangerous adventures in the Sylvan Vale. Epic and magical!
The Righteous by Renee Ahdieh is another solid fantasy romance with drama, intrigue, and betrayals.
This book in her series features the romance of Pippa and Arjun, and I really enjoyed their dynamic and chemistry.
It was a little strange for book 3 to be focused on side characters from books one and two, but I feel like this author is so talented she pulled it off.
The Righteous is the enchanting third book in The Beautiful series by Renee Ahdieh. However, this book differs from the first two books in that it follows two different characters. The Righteous is Pippa and Arjun’s story, and, trust me, you don’t want to miss it.
This book picks up right after the events in The Damned. Pippa is worried about Celine and is desperately trying to find her. Meanwhile, Arjun and the Court of Lions are trying to find a way to save Odette. They decide the best course of action is for Arjun to go to Sylvan Vale and find a healer for Odette. However, what Arjun doesn’t expect is for Pippa to follow him to the fae realm.
I really enjoyed getting to know Pippa and Arjun better in this book. Ahdieh does an incredible job fleshing out Pippa’s character. We learn a lot about her in this book. In the previous books, Pippa was strictly a side character. Not much was known about her. In The Righteous, we get to see the real Pippa. The same happens with Arjun in this book. These two characters finally come to life for us readers, and I loved getting to know them. Plus, watching these two characters interact is endlessly entertaining. You can expect banter and flirtation.
A quote from Alice's Adventures Through the Looking Glass can be found before each chapter which I love. It helped set the tone of a dark fairytale where the setting is lush and beautiful yet deadly. Nothing is quite as it seems in this book. True to the lore of the fae, they are very sneaky creatures despite the fact they are not able to tell a lie. Fans of fae will definitely enjoy this book.
I can’t wait to see what for the next and final book! I’m not ready for this series to end yet. I could hang out with these characters forever. The sense of found family is a common thread throughout these books. Each character has felt out of place in society before. Then, they meet each other and finally have a family of their own. It’s so heartwarming. If you enjoyed the previous two books, I think you’ll enjoy Pippa and Arjun’s story. Arjun is the sweetest little cinnamon roll.
Thank you to James at Penguin Teen for sending me the ARC of The Righteous in exchange for an honest review!
I can say, without a doubt that, this was the best book in The Beautiful series. Maybe I’m biased because I'm literally in love with Arjun Desai but I digress. The Righteous starts off just a bit after The Damned ends and focuses on Pippa trying to find Celine. She tails Arjun to a travelling mirror and unwittingly follows him to the Fey realm. In an effort to save her from the Fey, Arjun claims that Pippa is his betrothed. So you got fake engagement, rivals to lovers, and forced proximity right there.
One thing I absolutely loved was the way Ahdieh incorporates Hindu mythology into Arjun's perspectives, often comparing Pippa to Draupadi (which I found funny because Arjuna was the one to win Draupadi’s hand in marriage). Also the way Arjun calls Pippa “meri pyaari”? Had me screaming, crying, and throwing up. Seeing bits of Celine and Bastien was so nice, especially as you start to realise that the two couples are closer to finding each other more and more with every passing page and that hell is sure to break loose when they do.
The story kind of drags on a little as the entire book takes place over just a few days. However as you get closer to the ending, the anticipation of everyone meeting again really builds up. And the ending?? Oh my gods the ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Y’all I didn't even know that Renee had confirmed that there would be a crossover with The Wrath and The Dawn until I read some of the reviews of The Righteous to make sure it wasn't a fever dream. And then on top of the epic crossover is the Epilogue of ultimate betrayal. Has me on the edge of my seat for the fourth book.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Penguin Random House. All opinions are my own!
Pippa is tired of her life being dictated by men. When her best friend goes missing into the world of fey, she follows closely behind, only to find a bit more than she bargained for along the way.
Where do I start with my obsession for this series?! How about the amazingly rich and beautiful fantasy world that has been created in these books? The story of vampires, werewolves, and the fey may seem like one that you've heard over and over again. But there's something about the way that Ahdieh crafts her version that makes it feel like nothing I've ever encountered before. Between the stunning backdrop of New Orleans to the mystical world of the fey that this book brings in, you feel immersed in these worlds from the very beginning.
And don't get me started on the characters. They are all so real and raw that it's pretty much impossible to not fall in love with them. They each have their own flaws that make them heartbreakingly relatable, and even though they are mythical creatures, they are so horribly human. I have absolutely loved watching their stories unfold. They are some of my favorite characters - you'll just have to read for yourself to find out why!
I will say that the first half of the book felt a little weird to me. I hadn't been expecting such a heavy shift of POV to Pippa and Arjun. But in the end, I found myself fangirling over them just as hard (if not harder) as I have over Celine and Bastien. And in the end, I was screaming because I need to know what's going to happen next! I need to know - like yesterday!
If you're looking for a unique story about the world of vampires, werewolves, and fey, this is the stunning series for you!
You GUYS!!!! This BOOK!!! Okay, I've been really enjoying the entire series, but The Righteous steps up with so much drama, tension, romance, and some solid twists! It's got the fake engagement trope (LOVE), and spends most of the book in the world of the fae, so if you're into that you really need to get on this series! It's also got casual diversity, intersectional feminism, sex positivity. So really what more do I need to say to sell you on it??
Okay, but I have to mention a THING that she does at the end of the book because I literally SCREAMED. I won't spoil the specifics so that you can discover it for yourself, but she does a thing that connects the world of The Beautiful series with the world of The Wrath and the Dawn!!! Yes, really! (for those who don't know, this was the first series she wrote) Suffice to say I freaking loved this and cannot wait to see where book 4 takes us! I received an advance copy of this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
The Righteous brings fairytales and nightmares to life in this alluring and beautifully poetic story about stepping into the unknown and taking charge of one’s own fate.
After the shocking events of The Damned, we follow the story of the British outcast, Pippa, and the charismatic Court of the Lions member, Arjun, as they fall into a world full of traps, riddles and illusions, and only can depend on one thing to survive, each other.
After finishing this book, I am left completely SPEECHLESS. Wow, just wow. Renée has expanded her world of supernatural creatures beyond the streets of New Orleans and into uncharted territories, much like Alice’s adventures through the looking glass, and it was truly enchanting!
This book was full of endearing moments, witty banter, and heartwarming romance, and I have to say, I fell for these two cuties with their adorable quirks and unexpected love story. (Arjun completely MELTED my heart!!) You can’t help but want to root for them individually and as a team. And they make one awesome team!
This series will always be a favorite of mine because it speaks to the lost, the broken, and the misfits with strong themes of choosing your own family, loving fiercely, and being unapologetically yourself. And after that ending, I’m absolutely DYING for the next book! (And extremely sad it will be the last.)
4.25/5

*Thanks Penguin Teen for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
OMG! Let me start by saying, this is Arjun and Pippa's book, 100 percent! It was giving very much novella vibes BUT I was absolutely HERE. FOR. IT! This book was non-stop action. One thing after another and I loved every minute of it.
There are many things I love about this book. One being that there is all different types of representation. I especially liked the part where Arjun contemplates the pros and cons of religion. It really resonated with me.
"I don't have to smell sh*t to know it stinks."-Arjun
Haha, I'm sorry. I'm trying really hard not to let this review just be an ode to Mr. Desai but like, come on! Can you blame me?
So, yea. I really enjoyed this book. But I will say that one big reveal had no effect on me whatsoever. I don't know if that's because it was mentioned earlier in the book and just went over my head or if it's just a flaw in the writing.
There were so many gems said in this that had me all the way in my feelings. Here's a few.
"I suppose I could be a penguin then. As long as you were a penguin, too."
"My family will never know want for all their lives."
"You....are loved, Arjun Desai," she said softly. "so loved"
Arjun swallowed. He pressed his brow to hers. "As high as the sky, and as deep as the ocean," he said.
"That is how much you are loved"
Like, seriously! Can you hear me crying?
Renee Ahdieh has done it again. This is such a beautiful, action-packed, and heartwarming addition to the series. 5 stars!
