This a book once you start reading it you can not put it down, it is that good. The two main characters are Robyn and Austin. Robyn is a divorced mother of two children, Austin is a retired military man. Austin had an cousin that after his death he would inherit his house. Robyn has an aunt upon her death she would inherit all the furnishings and the cats of that house. This is the way they meet, they both went to the house at the same time. Robyn’s aunt is still alive, she invites Austin upon his retirement to come and check out the house. Robyn is trying to figure out what she wants to do for the rest of her life after her divorce. She has some big decisions to make. She decides to go see her Aunt. She meets Austin. They have some issues they both need to face and the aunt dies. They figure out together the issues and fall in love.
The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery Plenty of family and relationship drama, romance which at times was quite steamy and explicit. While I thoroughly enjoyed Ms Mallery's previous book (The Christmas Wedding Guest, This book not so much. Did not appreciate the use of the F word (not once but numerous times) especially in a Harlequin romance.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Susan Mallery has done it again! She never fails to provide a great romance novel and it always delivers!
As a huge Susan Mallery fan I feel her stand alone stories usually eave me feeling melancholy and not in the greatest of moods. The Summer Getaway was not one of those! Mallery weaves the story around Robyn, her children and her Aunt Lillian. The story is a completely`original take on a main character who married too young, divorced her cheating husband and is trying to find herself. A total pleasure to read. Here is hoping for a sequel to see where these fascinating characters are a year or two down the road.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This book had my attention on the first page. Great plot, characters, and realism. I read this book almost straight through because I really loved all the characters and wanted to know how this would wrap up.
If you're looking for a book with some family drama, some romance, and family relationships that are relatable, look no further. Susan Mallery once again delivers a book that gave me all of that in a book that was fun to read. Everyone needs an Aunt Lillian in their life. Definitely recommend.
I loved this book from start to finish. The characters were people you could relate to and I loved the setting. I highly recommend this book
Susan Mallery always delivers. The family drama was just enough to not become cloying and frustrating. There were some moments that were completely ridiculous and would have been best left out (related to the inheritance.) The relationships were interesting and the kids ended up winning me over.
Robyn feels the need to get away and regroup. Her two young adult children are driving her crazy, as is her ex-husband, the owner of a charter boat business they started together before their divorce. When things don't go well for her, she does as she has in the past -- goes from her home in Florida to Santa Barbara, California, to the home of Lillian, a widowed family friend. Lillian lives in a giant, historic home that fronts 25 acres of Pacific coastline. Robyn knows that someday she will inherit the contents of the house, but that a distant relative, Mason, a retired military man, will inherit the house itself. This works out well, because Mason and Robyn fall in love. I truly enjoyed this breezy romance, and look forward to recommending it to readers who have enjoyed Susan Mallery's previous books, as well as to readers who like books by Elin Hilderbrand and Mary Alice Monroe.
Another happy relationship book from Susan Mallery. Robyn Caldwell is surprised to find herself in a financial pickle four years after her divorce once her youngest is out of the house. Simultaneously her daughter is angry that she isn't more supportive of her rapid wedding plans, her youngest refuses to even consider college, and her ex is dating the very much younger sister of her daughter's fiancee. An escape across the country to her Great Aunt's house seems called for, although almost everyone she knows ends up following her out there.
Plenty of good relationship advice, a steamy romance, and much introspection on how much of your life should be devoted to nurturing others vs nurturing yourself. While Mallery is always a fun read, I was a tiny bit irritated that everuone seemed to have a lot of financial help from relatives and surprise bequests. While Robyn's daughter finally understands how privileged she is, she doesn't exactly have to learn it the hard way.
