First rate thriller - plot flows well without any problems following past and present narratives. Red herrings aplenty, well shaped characters, a story meant for reading, not seeing. I’ll look for other books by this author.
Another wonderful thriller bu the author! This one was more of a slow burn but fabulous. Wylie, an author, finds an unexpected younger guest at a farmhouse she has rented. This guest oo2n's up a Pandora's box of excitement, fear, and evil. A wonderful read!
Just WOW! This is one of those books that the momentum builds the more you read. And even though I had figured most of it out, I couldn't put it down. This is a must read for next year!
Thank you #netgalley and #htp #parkrow for the eARC.
I really love Heather Gudenkauf and always look forward to a new release. This one was more of a slow burn but I really liked it. I did not see the twist coming and I enjoyed it very much!
My first experience with a book written by the talented Heather Gudenkauf was a heart-stopping violent novel. It was one that kept me on my toes and that's what I love about trying new to me authors, I never know what I'm walking into.
An unexpected guest shows up during a hellacious snowstorm and then she finds another. She never thought bringing people into her home to help would bring forth a nightmare. And she never imagined that she would be reliving that tragedy that befell her when she was younger all over again. Writing her true crime novel in the middle of nowhere was supposed to give her inspiration and peace. What shows up is just the opposite and now Wylie must fight to keep her walls from crumbling.
Wow! Just wow! This definitely kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through and that intense finale had my heart in my throat. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this. It was astounding. It was a fast-paced read with never a dull moment. Your brain will go over all the details until you think you have all the answers and then the truth will shock you.
The Overnight Guest was an amazing thrill ride through the tunnels of terror. This is what true terror feels like and I was hooked from page one. It was suspenseful and left you guessing until the very end. This twisted thriller will answer all your prayers for an author to terrify you with a single story. This is one thriller you'll want to read and then hug your friends and family a little tighter.
This is a creepy mystery which grabbed me from the start. This one was violent though, more than I expected
Wylie Lark is a true crime author that has been staying in an isolated farmhouse where she is working on her next book. The isolation is intended to help her focus on the task at hand, but the farmhouse has a gruesome past that consists of 2 murders and a missing girl. Wylie finds herself trapped in the house due to a snowstorm and is surprised to see a little boy out in the snow. She immediately takes him in and gets him warm and safe. Where did the boy come from and what other surprises are in store at the farmhouse?
Another brilliant book by Heather Gudenkauf! The snow storm setting was perfect for this creepy mystery. I always enjoy alternating timelines and this one used the concept to perfection. The story firmly held my attention with just the right amount of twists and a great ending. I highly recommend THE OVERNIGHT GUEST.

Many thanks to Park Row and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Overnight Guest shows great promise as a murder mystery wrapped up inside of the writing of a true crime novel. With an easy writing style, the pages seem to turn themselves. I was caught up in the story of Wylie, who was writing about the mysterious disappearance of a girl in conjunction with a horrific murder. The story is very well paced and characters are crafted so I could envision them as I read. Definitely a great read.
This is a dark and mysterious novel...It was sent to me on Kindle by Netgalley for review...Although there are several red herrings, the story comes together with a surprise ending. I do NOT like reading books in two different time periods...just absolutely too confusing. I prefer authors to remain in the time period in which the characters are living...however...I enjoyed this book...
I love reading books based in Iowa, so I was excited to read this advanced copy! I thought this was a good book, but it’s all predicated on a very big coincidence that I find hard to accept. Other than that, it was great!
Heather Gudenkauf is definitely one of my go to reads for psychological thrillers and this one is just another great notch on her belt of awesomeness.
I absolutely loved this novel and plan to buy it for my library branches. Really exciting and moves fast!
I loved this book from the start! The cover itself was creepy, mysterious and exciting on its own- so good pick for that one! And the story line is perfect, I love that you jump into the scene right away. The three stories merging into one story is also awesome. I thought I had it figured out early but then quickly realized that I was wrong. This book was great and especially perfect for your thriller readers! I have read one other book by this author and I loved it. This one is going to be a hit- I have shared it all over my GoodReads and social meda! Thank you for giving me this book to preview and review ahead of time.
Very interesting mystery. I like how the chapters alternate and you don’t find out how they fit together until the end. This pushed my reading comfort level to the edge of what I can handle as far as violence goes, but it’s well written and kept me going. I had to find out if these females ended up ok! Really like the long lost friendship that appears.
I’ve never read Heather Gudenkauf before but this will make me pick up some of her past novels. This was a fast paced thriller told in two different time frames. The back and forth between the two starts to connect midway through the book and the ending was a total surprise. I enjoyed this and give it 3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A page-turning suspense book that kept my turning the pages as fast as I could. Wylie is staying in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, doing research for her latest book. In a bad storm, someone unexpectedly shows up at her house. Don't read this one at night or if you're alone in an isolated area!
The overnight guest., is a great book. I was working at the library while trying to read. I hated people would disturb me to check out books. Darn them. This is told by three different aspects. Which come together. Let no one take your strength. Keep fighting
Quite a violent page turner. The book is about a young girl whose parents get shot dead in her home and she narrowly escapes being shot in the arm. Her brother and best friend (who was sleeping over) disappear at the same time. The story then toggles to a crime writer wo is writing about the violent crimes committed in the same town. She finds a young child outside the house she is renting during a snow storm and slowly the puzzle about what happened so many years ago is solved (with a lot more violence). Good story and good suspense.
Heather Gudenkauf knocked it out of the park with this book. All her books take place in Iowa and though some places are fiction, and as an Iowan, it helps visualize the story that much more. This book doesn't come out until Jan 2022 and it's the perfect read after the holidays when it's too cold to go outside and do anything. The ending had a very good twist which added another level to this book. If you don't get this book via NetGalley, preorder it or ask for it as a stocking stuffer for Christmas!
Another fabulous suspense novel by Heather Gudenkauf . Wylie is staying at a desolated farmhouse to finish her book . Away from her family during a deadly snowstorm she receives an unexpected guest . Full of twists and turns and tons of suspense this novel is beyond addictive
