The Overnight Guest grabbed a hold of me for 24 hours and didn’t let go. Every spare moment was spent deep into this unique, creative, heart wrenching mystery. Imagine finding a small child almost frozen to death in the middle of a storm that has you snowbound with no means of communication. And that’s only the beginning. With unexpected twists and turns throughout the story, You will think you have figured it all out time and again, only to see clearly the flaws in your thinking when the truth is revealed. This is a great original mystery that I will gladly recommend to my friends. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced read copy.

Another amazing book by Heather Gudenkauf. She is an author in which I will always put everything down to start her books. And The Overnight Guest did not disappoint.
Wylie Lark is a true crime author finishing her latest book, or she may just be hiding out from life’s mistakes. While snowed in during a storm, she finds a small child, nearly frozen to death. But how did this child get here in the middle of nowhere? And surely someone is looking for a child…but why?

Not the most original premise sure, but don't let it turn you down, because it's a cool premise and this author was able to bring forward a very interesting thriller and give her own color to this story. I like it and would recommend reading it!

This is a quick suspenseful book by a talented author. The book begins with a tragic event that holds your heart in it’s grip till the end. There are three storylines that converge into one as they are skillfully sewn together. A true crime writer is piecing together her past as she writes her book in a isolated area during a severe snowstorm. This sets the stage for many twists and turns in this who done it. Heather Gudenkauf is a go to author for me and this book does not disappoint. #TheOvernightGuest #HeatherGudenkauf #NetGalley

I was a little confused with the different stories at first but then it all started making sense. Very suspenseful . I was holding my breathe! She is one of my favorite authors and I highly recommend this book. I have also met her and it was great to hear her speak.

More like 2.5 stars. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. The premise of this book sounded right up my alley, but unfortunately I couldn't really get into it so it took me awhile to finish it.

A quick and enjoyable read. I liked the different uses in time jumps, and I was really hooked on knowing how it ended. That said, there were some choices I didn’t love but can’t really elaborate on without spoilers. I just felt some of the plot lacked… reason? Not enough buildup to the big finish for there to be any real satisfaction from learning the secret.

*thanks to netgalley for this ARC*

A page turner with enough twists to keep it interesting. The number of details were spot on.
Did anyone else see the Cutter reference and think hmm, In Cold Blood similarities here and there? Not a lot, but enough to make the connection?

Gudenkauf has done it again! Three distinct storylines will have you on the edge of your seat frantically flipping the pages to discover who killed a family in a small Iowa farming community. I couldn't put the book down!

Solid and enjoyable, with the appropriate mix of suspense and tiny revelations. But. Occasionally time moved in ways that may have made more sense for the writer than the reader. Like, there is meticulous detail about every creaking board in this hallway, but then, instead of opening the door and going to the driveway (this is a fairly loose example) the MC is just on the driveway talking to someone. Oh. Umm. Okay...It only happened a couple of times but was off putting enough to mention.

Wylie Lark wanted to be alone to finish her new true crime thriller. Being snowed in at the old farmhouse suits her just fine. The fact that the house was the scene of a double homicide and missing, perhaps kidnapped girl does make it a little creepy. Being alone is a little tense, but when Wylie finds a child alone in the snow and brings her inside to warm up, she begins to realize that the decades old murder has very modern repercussions. NOT to be read alone

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Love Heather Gudenkauf and tore through this book in one sitting! Wylie has come to a small town in Iowa to research her upcoming true crime project. After a snowstorm leaves her housebound with an unexpected visitor or two, she finds herself entangled in a whole new predicament. Being from Iowa, I enjoyed the setting and could relate to many things in this novel. I did have the twists predicted before I got to them, but they still didn't disappoint. A thrilling read perfect for a chilly night.
