As an elementary school teacher, I’m always on the lookout for books that teach about emotions. Children have a difficult time putting their feelings into words and books like this held provide them with the tools to help. This book is one in a series and the focus is on feeling excitement. I really love the pictures in this one as they capture excitement so well! There are photographs of real children which is more helpful for kids to relate to than illustrations. I highly recommend this series of feelings books for those who work with young children.

This is an excellent children's book, which talks about what feeling excited is, how it feels, when you might feel excited, and it gives advice on what to do to help you feel excited, such as dancing, or going to the playpark or a funfair. It also gives advice on what to do if you feel too excited, such talking more slowly or shaking your hands around to get rid of extra energy.

The book is full of easy to read text and photographs of children and objects, which help to portray the message of the book to young children. It also has a word list at the end of the book, which shows high-frequency words and content words. My daughter and I really enjoyed the book and we both learned a lot from it. She especially loved to look at the photographs of the children and their excited faces and she liked the photo of the author at the end of the book.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Norwood House Press for a copy of "Feeling Excited" in exchange for my honest review.

This book is a great tool for parents/caregivers and children to have a dialogue about how to show they are excited. The book have wonderful photos that clearly depict the emotion. It opens conversation about what makes us excited, does learning something new do that, how to calm down if they are too excited.

There are questions at the back of the book to help lead a discussion on what makes us excited and how to show it. Fluency in reading is brought about by re-reading the book. The word list has high-frequency and context words.

The titles in this series are all designed to help children recognize their emotions and, when needed, to cope with those that are difficult. This social-emotional learning will help children in many areas of their lives. Think, for example, of how a child would do better in school if not distracted by upsetting feelings.

This entry is about a happy emotion though. Readers are invited to think about how they react when they are excited. There are photos of children from many backgrounds leading the way by showing what they do at such moments. Examples are also given of times when a child might feel excited and asking if these times are true for them. Suggestions are also gently given for times when a child is over excited and needs to calm down.

The end of this helpful short book offers additional resources for reading and for discussing the book’s content.

I recommend this series and this title. It is critical for kids to be able to acknowledge their feelings in different situations and figure out how to live with them.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Along with the fantastic content and how helpful the illustrations are for emotional recognition/discussion inspiration, I'm really enjoying the wonderful representation in this series. Kids and families of all walks of life are featured, making it easy for most readers to recognize themselves on the page and identify with the story.

The text explains excitement as a continuum--sometimes you may experience a little, and sometimes a little too much! Simple suggestions for managing excess excitement will be helpful to young readers.

Useful extra material--reading list, discussion questions, fluency resources--are included and very valuable. This would be an excellent addition to school, classroom, and personal libraries for pre-K/elementary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
