<b>Yes, this is the start of another book series! And although I don’t care for them, I've decided audiobook is the way to go. If I could listen to a whole series at once, it would be heaven. I’d feel like I was binge-watching a Netflix series, lol!</b>

This is Boyle & Keneally #1 and if you like ritualistic murders, creepy serial killers, and disturbing mythology, you need to read this one! The narrator and the two mismatched detectives were excellent.

There is too much to this story to give a clear picture of what kind of a wild ride you are in for, but I highly recommend this one! Dunphy is a new-to-me author and his writing is extraordinary. There wasn’t a boring moment!

I’m extremely sorry, but I couldn’t get into this book. Not sure if I just couldn’t get interested in the story line or the accent of the narrator just kept me from concentrating. I tried, at 30% I just couldn’t force myself anymore as I just couldn’t keep interested.

I loved the characters and can see the three of them developing into a strong brand for future books. The research was clearly very thorough but I did get somewhat lost in the ancient Irish folklore. I did enjoy the story but the tension was diluted by the heavy information.

Once again, I have found a new author who is simply superb. I really loved this audiobook and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I hope to read more by this author and I highly recommend this book. The narrator was fantastic and I loved her Irish accent.

The story is about a profiler called Jessie who goes back to Ireland after her boyfriend is killed. She is contacted by a friend who pulls her into a new case. A female is kidnapped and she helps to find her, along with Seamus and Terri, a policeman and a genealogist. I enjoyed the highly paced feel of the book and I was excited to find out what happened at the end. This is a great book!

This book had me hooked from the prologue. Shelley Atkinson narrated the book brilliantly, her performance was top notch and I will be looking for other books she has performed.

I will be hunting for more books written by S.A. Dunphy because he is extremely good at crafting a story and writing characters that the reader engages with on a very deep level.

Through short flashbacks or peeks into the characters lives, the reader becomes more emotionally connected to characters that we have not actually spent that long with. Criminal behaviourist Jessie Boyle and Detective Seamus Keneally are such well developed characters and I will definitely be continuing reading the series.

I call "Shotgun" to reading the next book as soon as it is available.

What a story to kick off a series. I’ve been awake most of the night wanting to know where the investigation was heading next.

There’s a serial killer on the loose; a woman has been abducted and will be killed in a couple of weeks. The investigating team is being watched and in part, it’s a police procedural in a race against time to find her. But it’s so much more than that. The story is set in Eire and the investigation involves a police chief, a former First Minister, corrupt business deals, a psychological profiler, a long term prisoner who knows everything, Irish,, a genealogist and more. The story is woven around Celtic mythology and the pace and plotting throughout is superb.

As a police procedural, it adds a couple of new dimensions. A genealogist whose approach and mindset is different to the police reviews earlier cases and discovers new leads. A profiler, seconded from the Met after a personal tragedy, works with the Garda and has a different mindset and a wealth of experience. There’s a real feel for rural Ireland as the investigation moves to Kerry and the nuances of local traditions, secrets and lifestyle, very different to Dublin. The characters have personality and life and I could picture them all. It’s sharply observed and I was sorry when I finished. Cant wait for more in this cracking series.

I loved this audiobook which has been well written and well read. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Audio version of this book 📕 This is first book in the Boyle & Keneally series. It was an enjoyable read/listen though i found it a little slow in places but once the storyline got going it was a gripping read , based on Irish ancient folklore and a deranged serial killer it had an usual plot , a change from normal police procedurals. I would read more in this series.

The narrator was ok but she did tend do use an ‘old lady’ type voice for the main character which really didn’t fit with the character.

I really enjoyed this book. Despite identifying the boogeyman as soon as the character is introduced, there was plenty of suspense, character development - oh, yay for strong female characters - and a spoonful of mythology.
There was one avenue of investigation that I felt only filled pages and didn't contribute to the overall story. I'm keen to read more by this author, and specifically in this series.
It wasn't too predictable, and difficult to turn off; if you can, listen to it in one go.

First time reading this author, absolutely loved it. Kept me on edge of seat all the way through. Well researched descriptions of the local areas and culture was very welcome and quickly got the background story of the main characters, just enough suspense and a lot of psychological analysing through out the plot. Really enjoyed it and the narration. Thanks to #NetGalley for audiobook version to review.

I listened to this as an audio book - I had to be honest the irish accent was too strong to keep me focused.

Penny O Dwyer is kidnapped and a video is sent of her in captivity. A ransom is requested and she will be killed in 10 days if not paid.

Criminal profile expert Jessie Boyle is called in to help the police solve . She finds other girls were taken in similar manners.

I did like the general mystery of this. Very good narrator. .My only issue is the Celtic History that figured in with the serial killer. Lost me a bit.

Complete with descriptive writing, this thriller does a fantastic job of engaging the reader. Each chapter starts with the quote of a serial killer. With a fast pace and hints of Irish mythology this is a relatively quick read.

Audiobook review.

My first time 'reading' this Irish author, for a serial thriller killer woven through with Celtic mythology.

The central characters are really well put together, with depth and character, I didn't fully connect with some of the second tier characters however. The plot takes us to locations I've never been before in books including Irish bogs, mountains and caves.

The voice acting is excellent, with clear distinction between the characters without resorting to silly accents. I feel the voice really added to the characters.

I enjoyed it overall, though in parts found it a little long and rambling. Not an essential read, but I would be interested to pick up the next in the series and see how these characters develop. There's definitely enough distinctive and original characteristics to keep them Interesting.

I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator was amazing, loved their voice and I could happily listen to them read a phone book. The story itself was great, it was the first in a new series and I cannot wait to read the next one!

An excellent start to a new series, with great characters that certainly have some legs to keep this pair running for quite a while.

Encompassing the myths and legends of Ireland amongst its story adds an interesting extra layer of mystery and detail to the overall book.

Well paced with an ideal narrator whose Irish lilt compliments the tale well, this is wholly recommended.

I enjoyed the mix of crime, mistery and mithology. All together really worked and I would love to read or listen more. It was the first time I did not wanted to guess who was the killer. I just went with the flow.

I loved the case trio and all their back stories. Really interesting greeping story. So sad but anyway positive caracters.

Lovely Irish accent makes Shelley Atkinson's narration a pleasure to listen to.
I listened to this book over the course of a couple of days up the allotment and was sad when it ended.
The tale begins with a murder from the past, explaining why Jessie has retired from her London Police role. She moves back to her home country, Ireland, where she becomes embroiled in a case of a kidnapped girl which appears to be linked to the original murder in some way.
Jessie and her team discover links to ancient Irish mythology and a archaeological dig that took place many years past.
Dunphy paints a vibrant picture with strong characters and I look forward to reading her next novel.
