I was disappointed this book didn't much of anything new about Keanu. The author dives into all the movies he has made but not about the actor himself.
This was not what I expected. It details the movies he has been involved in and I take it as the author’s opinions of what he thinks Keanu is like. Considering what a private person he is, I don’t think many people really know, and that’s why so many like him.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to review.
If you want to learn about Keanu Reeves and his movies, try another book. This author came across as a lukewarm-Reeves fan critic. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm giving this a solid three stars.
It was good and I appreciated most of the stories but it also felt like the heart of Keanu Reeves was missing. It was probably because I thought it was going to be about Keanu and wound up being about his movies. Still, the information about the movies was fun! There was so much that I didn't realize I missed or didn't even know.
That in itself was intriguing and fun but I still wanted more. There are surprisingly many films that I haven't watched. So reading the book also gave me a list of movies to watch for homework.
Overall, a decent read. I wanted more but I definitely was glad I was able to review.
Thank you to ABRAMS and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
This book is mostly a deep dive into the films of Keanu Reeves more so than him as a person. I felt like it could have been done a little better. With that said I really enjoyed the chapter about My Own Private Idaho (One of my All time favorite films) . It talks a lot about River Phoenix who I also enjoyed. This book was just ok for me.
Keanu Reeves is one of those celebrities who has kept his nose clean, ya know? But part of that is keeping his private business more-or-less private. We know what's public record, which are some pretty deep personal tragedies, but there really isn't public record of his personal responses.
With that said, this author tried to build a more personal journey into the movies that Keanu Reeves has been in, and the order that he worked on them. There were some insightful observations, but nothing really 'personal' from Keanu Reeves. Maybe this is the coverage a star gets when he prefers to remain private?
Overall, this book made me want to watch the movies - re-watch the ones I've already seen, but maybe even start from the beginning and watch all these movies. The author is obviously a very true fan, as he was able to comment extensively about most of the moves, and even the movies that were not crowd favorites got some positive observations.
Overall, I'm only able to give this book 2 out of 5 stars. I just wasn't the audience. As I said, the book made me think of watching the movies, but I really don't have time for that. I'm a reader, and this was really a book written for movie fans. It felt like a personal discussion, but I didn't walk away with much more knowledge of Keanu Reeves than I started with - I felt unable to hold up my end of the discussion without quite a few extra hours to watch the movies.
I really enjoy Keanu Reeves' movies and was hoping to learn more about the impact he's had on the industry. This is a great criticism of Keanu Reeves' filmography, but less about him as a person. Not a bad read if that's what you're looking for, but it was not what I expected.
Feels like it could have been better? Appreciate the author's instinct to deep dive on the lesser known roles though even if it meant reading lots of pages about Keanu movies that I will never watch and seem bad.
I should have known this was going to be more about the author's take on the actors films and nothing new about his personal life. I like that Keanu keeps things quiet and to himself. The writing in the book was engaging and it made me want to revisit some of Keanu's works. Mostly it felt like I was learning about the authors's opinions.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!
Looking for a great book about Keanu? Then this is the one for you! This book spans his career and up to current and if you are a fan, then you should definitely read this book!
This book was ok but I was disappointed there wasn't really much new about Keanu. If someone wants to delve into all the movies he made, this is the book for them.
This books isn’t bad, per say, I just wish the author had included more from Keanu Reeves. Especially considering the fact that the actors alive and well, why wouldn’t you include more personal stories and anecdotes that haven’t already been told? It feels like this book is more about the authors opinions rather than Keanu Reeves and his life/career
When I first got this book, I didn't even see who had written it. I wished I did because Keanu didn't really contribute much to this. The stories were interesting but overall I really wanted more from him.
What a fun ride through Keanu's filmography. Not a lot biographical, per se but if you love his movies like I do and want a cinephile's perspective on his roles; this book is definitely for you!
Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant by Alex Pappademas is a nice read about Keanu. I learned some things I didn’t know. It reads well. I could have done with less of the psychological analysis. Overall, I enjoyed it. I was surprised to find that Keanu was in a movie with Charles Bronson - another of my favorites! I’m glad I got a chance to read it.
As a long-time fan of Keanu Reeves I wanted to like this book so much! I’m always interested in learning a little bit more about the behind the scenes reality of my favorite movies and actors. Unfortunately Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant just didn’t deliver for me.
The author seems to have made a valiant attempt to give some deeper meaning to the film and characters Keanu Reeves has helped bring to life, but it varies between long recaps of the films intertwined with chaotic breaks to mention what was happening in society and with costars at the same time. The effect doesn’t tie it all together, but rather just feels disjointed and unfocused. I don’t feel I walked away from this book with any greater understanding of Keanu Reeves nor did I feel any “profound lessons” were revealed.
I appreciate the chance to read and review this book and wish I could have given it a higher review, but I was left unsatisfied.
*I received a copy of Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant from Netgalley and Abrams Image in exchange for an honest review*
Unfortunately this book was dull and difficult to read. I forced myself to finish. My hope and perspective were disappointed by what this book actually delivered.
#keanureevesmosttriumphant is a excellent read about one of the coolest dudes in Hollywood. I didn’t think I could like him more but this book helped me on that journey. Thank you #alexpappademas for your great book. Thank you #netgalley and #abrams for giving me the chance to read this most excellent book.
Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant may seem like a book someone like Ted (from Bill and Ted) would read, but it actually is a very thoughtful in-depth look at the actor’s career. I was impressed with the thorough examination of Keanu’s movieography, and pleased to see a feminist analysis of his work. The author is clearly a fan of Keanu, and explores how the idea of Keanu has become so important to American culture. It was the perfect book in the way it talked about a public figure who has largely remained private and unknowable, even after decades in the public eye, and effectively argued that to understand Keanu, you need to study his choice of movie roles.
Thank you to NetGalley for the review copy!
Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Keanu Reeves: Most Triumphant by Alex Pappademas in exchange for an honest review. I've grown up watching Keanu Reeves and he has always been a man of mystery. I like when actors keep their private lives and careers separate. It was interesting to see how the author viewed Keanu and how each role embodied a piece of him.
