Miles falls in love with his best friend Nessa. She is getting over the person she had feelings for falling in love with someone else and both of them are her friends. Now getting drunk she remembers kissing someone but it could not be Miles. So she goes out with someone else and that guy is a creeper, and she begins to see Miles in a totally different light. A good story but had me going there for a while. Worth the read and good characters.

While I did enjoy this book there were some parts that seem to drag or seemed unnecessary. I will say I loved Miles and found Nessa to be so so (& a little self-centered) and that the parental units needed a therapist but other than that. I wished we had more examples of Nessa being more supportive of Miles instead of focused solely on herself and had some character growth before her issues had a particle solution.

My Next Play is a new adult type steamy romance. This book contains plenty of drama and spicy scenes! My Next Play is actually the third books in a series but you do not have to read the first two to figure out this story line. Overall I found it to be a pretty good read. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

What happens when you fall for your best friend, but they fall in love with someone else? Nothing is what it seems in this unrequited love, new adult romance.

This is truly an unstoppable read! And I loved every minute of it!

My Next Play is the third book in the On My Own series by Carrie Ann Ryan. It can be read on its own, but returning readers will have a head start on understanding the characters and relationship dynamics.

What happens when you fall for your best friend, but they fall in love with someone else? Nothing is what it seems in this unrequited love, new adult romance. Miles knew Nessa never had eyes for him. Only when someone new tries to hurt her, he knows he can’t stand back any longer. It’s time she finds out the man he is behind the glasses and beneath the shell he wrapped himself in. But now he has to hope that once she sees the real him, she’ll stay. Because he doesn’t want to let go, even if someone else tries to make that choice for them both.

My Next Play is a contemporary romance with dynamic characters and high tension on a number of levels. I have not read the previous books in this series, but I have read other books by the author set in the same area, and recognized some of the secondary characters. I think that dedicated readers of the author in general, and series in particular, will already know about the tension between Nessa and the guy roommates in the series as well as some of the more serious issues that are mentioned. However, the author does a good job of giving enough information to remind returning readers with out rehashing past plots too much and giving new readers the information they need to get context for current story lines. This balance can be hard, but Ryan nailed it here. I liked the tension between Nessa and Miles, and really enjoyed the use communication, consent, and heat between them. The worries and issues they each had to face, not even including their relationship, were hard and a big part of their characters even when they tried not to share it. The character depth and growth was very well done. I thought the tension level of the book was high, I spent most of the book waiting for the big moment, and there were a couple time jumps that had me going back a page worried that I had missed a clue or big moment. I also loved the secondary characters, and now I want to go back and catch up on what I missed, and see what happens next with the whole group.

My Next Play is a highly engaging romance with great characters.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. I have read many of Carrie Ann Ryan's work and enjoyed them. This is the first book that I have read of her "On My Own" series. It can be read as a stand alone but I'm thinking it would be helpful to read books 1 & 2 so you get the background of the all of the roommates.

This book follows Miles, a bit of a hot nerd, and Nessa, a friend who never saw Miles as anything more. In the previous book, it appears that Nessa had a huge crush on Pacey and is now getting over that. She has feelings for Miles but she refuses to put herself in the same situation again of liking one of the roommates and not having feelings returned. Miles has always liked Nessa but he never thought she liked him. Eventually they decide as friends to explore what they have both knowing it won't last since they plan to go to different grad schools. At the same time as this, there is a bit of a stalker in Nessa's life that provides an underlying thread of suspense.

Overall a well written book and good story. I can't say it was my favorite work of hers. Felt like a lot of repetition of the same thoughts by the main characters and just not a lot of variety in the work. I did like the underlying suspense in the work to keep you on your toes.

My Next Play (On My Own Book 3)

📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚

Thirds times charm!!

In the 3rd book in the On Your Own series we get a front road seat to Nessa and Miles and this friends to everything love story. We get angst and fear and pride all in two prideful soles. The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

My Next Play was a college-type romance with some drama, but lots of steamy love as well!

Nessa and Miles are friends who are attracted to each other. They are both struggling with family issues and refusing to talk about them. Nessa needs help with some classes and Miles helps her.

I can't wait to read more about this characters and from this author!

ARC received for review

Miles has been watching Nessa for a while. He's seen her watching someone else. When Nessa's crush falls in love with her friend, Miles comforts her and they kiss. Nessa doesn't remember it cause she was drunk, and starts dating a new guy (who turns out to be a creeper). Miles again saves her, and this time something more happens. They develop a relationship but Nessa pushes him away. Miles persists and true love wins in the end.

I can't wait for the last of the room mates to hook up and fall in love.
