I am currently writing this review with blurry eyes! I made the mistake of starting this book in the middle of the day. Therefore, I had to stay up all night so I could finish. It was that good!
This book is beautifully written. Jo Wilde managed to weave a stunning love story into the global pandemic that is Covid-19. Her turn around time for writing this book was certainly impressive.
The entire world knows now what it is to be in lockdown and how it caused many of our personal, professional, and relational issues to come to a head. I loved the story of Julie and Michael so much. I felt that this was one of the most relatable books I have read in a long time. Marriage is one of the most difficult things. Although I myself have never been married, I felt seen and heard in both protagonists.
As a fan of romance, the genre can easily go in the direction of corny but this did not. It was rooted in real life struggles. Wilde takes her readers on a lovely ride through one couples journey of new romance all the way to empty nesters.
I will be checking out her other works and recommending this book to everyone I know.
Special thanks to NetGalley.com and Forever( Grand Central Publishing) for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Net Galley for a copy of The Two Of Us. I really don't know what to say about this one. I didn't like it. It was so hard to get through. Sorry.
I wasn't sure going into this I was ready for a book taking place in the pandemic. That being said, it's a different take on the pandemic. It doesn't focus on the virus itself, but what people did during lockdown and how our lives changed while being stuck at home.
I loved this second chance romance and definitely recommend to anyone looking for something different!
This book was soooo unique!!! Not only do we not get many real and raw divorce stories but add in the global pandemic and you get such a relatable story. The characters were emotional, the plot was fantastic and overall I really really loved this book!
Julie and Michael, on the verge of their 35th anniversary, live like roommates. In fact, Julie is prepared to serve her husband with divorce papers, but then lockdown begins.
Only having each other to interact with forces the couple to be brutally honest with each other and past grudges and hurts. Subsequent chapters show key times in their marriage where it all began to go wrong.
It’s an interesting story. I’m well past the pandemic stress so reading about the early days didn’t bother me.
However, I do wonder if the couple would last after lockdown.
I picked up this book probably 10 times over the past 5 days, and I couldn’t push through. I just couldn’t get into it.
If you asked me what the worst part of this book is? For me, it’s the fact that I can’t look at the title without thinking of the song (the one from the 1980’s song, the one that just gets stuck in your head and won’t leave).
A really sweet second chance romance.
A beautiful story on reconnecting during the pandemic.
Michael and Julie are just shy of their 35 year wedding anniversary when Julie decides she wants a divorce. However when she gets home to gibe Michael the papers, the unthinkable happens: pandemic lockdown.
I try to stay away from any new books published that include Covid but I am a sucker for a marriage in trouble and the description was too good to resist. I definitely was NOT disappointed.
Michael is a sweet and sensitive husband and father to his adult kids. He senses the disconnect in his marriage and tries so desperately to get to the bottom of it. His emotion towards his kids had time tearing up.
Julie is closed off and fears being vulnerable even when she’s been married so long. As their isolation goes on she wonders if the divorce is really what she wants.
Quarantine and isolation has been so tough on so many marriages so it was so nice to read about real world problems. Also loved how this included a book club guide in the back for my fellow book clubbers!
There were many parts that made me chuckle and a few that made me laugh out loud. Both Julie and Michael were extremely likable and I loved the banter between the two.
This, I think is what makes the characters and the story so well-developed and engaging.
And this story I found to be very unique.
A story that will not only consume your mind but also your heart. A unique and breathtaking storyline, sensationally written witty banter, quirky characters, laughs. giggles, feels galore, and an authentic view of all different forms of love and how they shape us into the people we are and sometimes the people we want to be.
I really enjoyed reading JUST THE TWO OF US by Jo Wilde.
And hope to read more contemporary romance stories by her!
Forever Publishing,
Thank you for this cute eARC!
A second chance romance that was sweeter than I thought it would be. I’m finding that second chance romances are growing on me as it was subgenre that I didn’t use to.
