Looking for a light, fluffy, comical romance? MR WRONG NUMBER is just the ticket with its cackling good times, irresistible banter, and wonderful romantic premise. Starring beautiful, irrepressible Olivia Marshall, who is known for her klutzy behavior. She receives an eye popping text message from an unknown number. Thus starts a string of sexy, silly texts between her and Mr. Wrong Number.
After a string of bad luck, Olivia needs new digs and her brother offers her a place to stay. However, her brother's best friend, perfectly hunkalicious Colin, lives there too. Olivia and Colin never got along. Colin always perceived her as the pesky little sister. Olivia agonizes over her messed up life, but when she receives a hot, entertaining text message from a mystery man, she thinks it's a good sign. Maybe romance is lurking around the corner. She is turned on and looks forward to their sexy chats. Will she find her romeo?
Colin is intrigued with Miss Misdial, the lady he accidentally texted. She sounds adventurous, amorous, and hilarious! Just his kind of lady. Then, Olivia moves in, making his life difficult. Colin hasn't seen her in years and his eyes pop, when he sees gorgeous Olivia. Then, later he learns she's the lovely Misdial, the lady he's been texting. Colin is seriously attracted to her. But, it's Olivia, his best friend's little sister. What is he going to do?
MR. WRONG NUMBER is a breezy, steamy, funny romance that will lift your spirits! The quirky plot of a text message gone wrong is hot as sin! The author peppers the plot with perfect repartee and steamy, messy situations. Colin has foot in mouth syndrome and Olivia is accident prone, a true recipe for disaster and much laughter. I absolutely adore Olivia and Colin's sizzling relationship that they try to hide. I haven't laughed this much, while reading a romance! Their attraction is wickedly delish and clearly perfect. The story is so good, I didn't want it to end! MR. WRONG NUMBER is one to treasure for your beach reading pleasure!
Some humorous moments, but the story and characters felt thin and forgettable. And the book was not nearly as spicy/sexy as people were making it out to be.
This was such a cute epistolary romance! I loved the dynamic between Olivia and Colin. Consider me a fan of Lynn Painter from this point on!
WHEN I SAY THAT I IMMEDIATELY FINISHED THIS BOOK, OPENED INSTAGRAM, VOICE MESSAGED THE AUTHOR SCREAMING ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK, AS IF THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD IT MADE ME UNHINGED, I WOULD NOT BE LYING TO YOU.
I did that. I actually did. Because that’s how much I loved this book.
I finished it in one sitting and I just ADORED THE WHOLE THING.
Olivia and Colin have my whole heart and I’d really love more of their story because this JUST WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR MY GREEDY HEART.
Mr. Wrong Number is such a great take on falling for your best friend’s little sister, who also happens to be your chaotic polar opposite…. OH AND HAPPENS TO BE CRASHING IN YOUR APARTMENT. THAT YOU SHARE WITH HER BROTHER. The tension was *chef’s kiss* impeccable.
Olivia is starting over back home in Omaha after accidentally burning her whole life down (literally) in Chicago. Having nothing and no where to go, she moves in with her brother and Colin… and one night, she happens to get a text from a wrong number and it starts to give her fun and hope again. But then she and Colin start to have chemistry and jealousy and OMG ITS SO GOOD PLEASE JUST PICK IT UP AND DEVOUR IT!!!!!!!
Anyhoooooo, I’m just fan girling right now, but I will basically read anything Lynn writes, because not only is she able to give us swoony heroes and heroines that just are so freaking relatable, but she also gives us substance and depth!
*thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free eARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion*
I really enjoyed this book. It was funny with a lot of You've Got Mail vibes. I'm fast becoming a fan of this author and their works.
I can't wait to see what type of work they put out next!
I can't remember the last time I chose a book over sleep. Read this in one sitting. Stayed up way past 3am. I found myself laughing and hardcore swooning. I was crying happy tears... I wouldn't have it any other way.
First of all... the text exchange (The banter! The chemistry!) was absolutely brilliant. Someone get me my own Mr. Wrong Number. Please. LOL
I love that we got two POVs. I fell in love with Colin and Liv so bad, so fast. Liv with how she lives life so passionately and never without heart. She's so perfectly imperfect. I want to see life through her eyes because she finds genuine joy in the simple things and she never does anything halfway. I love her resilience. Love her love for words. And I love how she can be both bold and vulnerable. Did I mention I love her?! Don't even get me started on Colin. Colin with his perfectly gross abs, his showcase-worthy skills, his gorgeous Adam's apple, his heavenly sheets (this will make more sense when you read the book, I promise), his charm-your-pants-off personality and his unwavering determination to prove himself... I ADORE him. Did I mention the hardcore swooning? It's not an exaggeration, I swear.
Mr. Wrong Number is most assuredly one of the best romcoms I've read! Definitely a 2022 favorite! And I can't wait 'til I get to read it again.
PS. I'm devastated that the Epilogue wasn't longer. *cries myself to sleep*
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley to read and review.
Anything that can go wrong will for Olivia. She almost burnt her last apartment down and she has to move in suddenly with her brother when she receives a text that says “what are you wearing?” She answers back with a joke and they strike up a texting conversation, and then friendship. Olivia’s brother lives with his friend Colin who Olivia has had a crush on forever. But he’s a finance guy who lives a grown up life. Olivia barely can keep a job and accidents just seem to happen to her.
Colin is enamored with Miss Misdial when he realizes that she’s actually Olivia! After she has confessed some deep secrets, he doesn’t want to tell her he’s the wrong number. Obviously this backfires, but it’s so fun to watch it all unfold.
This book was absolutely hysterical! I don’t know how Olivia manages to cause so many messes, but she was endearing and sweet. It has the perfect amount of steam for me and I thought both characters blossomed when they were together. My favorite parts were when Olivia who was sleeping on the floor would sneak into Colin’s bed to take naps! Olivia needed to mature and I’m glad Colin could help with that. And at the same time, Colin needed a little help loosening up and letting go of the past.
Thank you so much to @berkleyromance and @lynnpainterkirkle for my gifted ebook. Mr. Wrong Number is on sale now!
Nobody does banter like Lynn Painter, nobody—I couldn't get enough!
Plus, I was yesterday-years-old when I learned what an epistolary novel was—it's a story that takes place largely through letters, emails, texts etc—but even before I knew it had a fancy name it has been one of my favorite devices in books. As the name would suggest, Mr. Wrong Number has a healthy amount of texting in the book, which made my epistolary-loving-heart happy. How many times can I squeeze the word into my review I wonder. 🤔
Anyway, back to the book. Oliva Marshall gets a late-night text from an unknown number, and fires back a funny response. They continue to text back and forth, and over time they develop a genuine friendship. That is, until Mr. Wrong Number realizes it's Olivia (his best friend's annoying younger sister) that he's been developing feelings for. Best to cut ties right? Right?
Olivia was such a hot mess she made my anxiety flare while reading the book, but you also can't help but love her. Plus, it was delightful to see the way they opened up to each other in a way they probably wouldn't have if it was face-to-face, rather than via texting. They developed a really lovely friendship and relationship before they even knew what each other looked like..or at least before they realized they did in fact know what they looked like.
So, if you love epistolary (that's number three) novels as much as I do, you will absolutely need to get your hands on this one!

I was pulled into the story immediately by the witty banter and hilarious texts between Olivia and the wrong number. The writing style was also fast and lively, pulling you forward into the tale. Sadly, I did not like Olivia. Yes, she was a walking disaster, but her disregard for other people’s property bothered me. I kept reading in hopes that she would grow on me. She did not. Therefore, I never understood the attraction from Colin. This would have been one of my favorite stories if she had just been likeable. The back and forth between the characters did make me smile and laugh, so I am giving this book a 3.5. I’ll try this author again because I enjoyed her writing style and pace.

Mr. Wrong Number was exactly what the doctor ordered. Olivia Marshall has always been kind of a loose thread, the fun...hot...younger sister of Colin Beck's best friend. A small apartment fire that Olivia swears wasn't her fault ends them up as unlikely roommates. When a "what are you wearing? (;" text gets sent to a wrong number, a flirtation-ship starts up. between two, strangers? or not. Can Miss. Dial and Mr. Wrong Number work out their hang-ups? is love way closer to home than we thought?
This is a fun read with steam and swoon worthy moments, it will leave you breathless and laughing. I absolutely loved all of it. Best friends sister trope? always in the feels.
I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. The banter between Olivia & Colin is everything! Their dynamic is the best thing. Olivia is one of my favorite female characters. She’s so funny, completely cursed and kind of chaotic. She is fun to read. Colin being billed as a Ryan Gosling lookalike put him high on the favorite character list as well. I do think my favorite character was Jack though. He’s a protective big brother, but still supportive. Overall, highly recommend this one! Especially if you’re a fan of the brothers best friend or enemies to lovers trope.
For all intense and purposes, I should have absolutely loved this book. And it was fun, it just didn't take my breath away. I personally was missing some depth between the characters. Colin is Olivia's brothers best friend, so they know each other relatively well. While they aren't close, I didn't feel much with their banter, nor did I feel a ton of depth between then when they were actually together. I wanted butterfly's and didn't get them. I recognize this book will work for a lot of people. It has great tropes and was built in a way that will hook most reader's attention. I personally just wanted a bit more depth and higher stakes between Colin and Olivia for their romance to become believable to me.
Ok this started out good. I liked the plot and I liked the pace everything was going at. I was starting to like the Mc(Olivia) and everything was going fine until the half waypoint.
Something with the bother’s best friend trope is that a lot of the times the trope can turn misogynistic. Though the big brother is protective they almost always act as if their sister is the same little kid as she was before and that she couldn’t possibly want to be with her best friend. I rlly liked the way Jack reacted when he learned about Collin and Olivia’s relationship but for a quick sec, it was headed somewhere that it shouldn’t have. But everything ended up turning well in that department.
But my oh my was Liv an annoying character sometimes. I rlly find it important to be able to like the character regardless of their morality. But oh my god was this girl judgmental. The only thing that made this a 3⭐️ read and not a 5⭐️ was her judgmental personality and the slight miscommunication.
This book has the same kind of level of miss-communication as most « friends with benefits » books have. Where both of them want it to be less of a temporary agreement and more of a long-term thing but both of them think the other doesn’t want that.
Overall I did enjoy the main plot but it was mostly the last 20% that made this almost unbearable at times.
I LOVED this book. Start to finish, I absolutely loved it and didn’t want it to end! I added the off-limits/brother’s best friend tropes to my list of favorites now!
This was a definite 5 star read for me! There were so many times I was literally laughing out loud. I loved the banter between Olivia and Colin, as well as the supporting characters. I don’t know if I loved Liv and Colin or their texting counterparts more. And the spice! It was steamy , but also realistic with Liv’s insecurities popping up inconveniently. I hope to see these characters again!
Thank you to @berkleypub for the gifted copy!
4 stars = Great! Might re-read.
This was so fun! LOL moments, great chemistry between the characters, hilarious and sarcastic banter. The set up is familiar, but the execution is well done. If you enjoy romantic comedies, check this one out! (Language, sex)
4.5 stars
The banter, the bsf little sister trope, the pacing and the spice was all so good
I didn't want to drop a full star level because I loved her writing style and the banter so much but I found the main character so frustrating at parts. But the main male interest was amazing
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was cute and sexy and so much fun. Perfect for fans of Tessa Bailey or anyone who loves enemies-to-lovers, brother's best friend, mistaken identity, forced proximity...SO MUCH TO LOVE HERE!
DNF. I really liked the premise but the writing did not work for me at all. It wouldn't be fair to the book if I finished reading and gave it a low rating.
I’ve had author Lynn Painter’s books on my radar to read for awhile, but after getting the recommendation to start MR WRONG NUMBER at my favorite local indie bookstore recently, I’m kicking myself for not reading her books sooner!
I absolutely loved it! I cackled while reading, and just loved the banter between Olivia (Livvie) and Colin, her older brother’s friend and sexy roommate.
Right away I knew that Olivia would become one of my new favorite characters, with her larger than life personality, and clumsy yet chaotic shenanigans that seem to happen when she’s around. The hot chemistry between her and sexy Colin is undeniable, and the grumpy hero is quickly becoming a favorite new romance trope for me!
*many thanks to Berkley and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review
Thank you, Berkley, for gifting me a copy of Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter.
I love the previous books I've read by Lynn Painter, and Mr. Wrong Number did not disappoint! Olivia and Colin's enemies-to-lovers, brother's-best-friend, secret identity, and forced proximity romance tropes are delightful! All these tropes work so well in this book. I laughed so many times during this story. The witty banter was excellent! I appreciate how Olivia and Colin are both relatable because they are flawed humans but still deserve to have their happiness. I highly recommend this book!
