In this opposites-attract rom com we meet a down-but-not-out journalist heroine who finds herself living in the apartment of her brother and his long-time best friend. He's from an affluent family and is *polished.* She is the hot mess that burned her apartment building down. They have always antagonized each other and really are opposites in their appearance and demeanor, but as they live together they step into new territory. Add in a plot line that she's unknowingly got a text chain going with him after he accidentally misdials her in the first scene (he figures it out later) and you've got that opening for anonymous vulnerability and the conflict of whether or not to reveal yourself IRL.
This book was unexpectedly good. The antics and situations were creative, the characters were endearing. My only (nitpicky) complaint is that I had hoped that Livvie (Olivia) would have grown in her view of Colin as much as Colin grew in his vision of her. He has this beautiful revelation about what makes Livvie tick and the underlying reason for her chaotic energy and even at the end she's not as revelatory in her understanding of him as it relates to his wealthy family and his lifestyle choices. I just wanted to see her come into that maturity a little bit for the sake of their relationship.
Solid offering in the contemporary romantic comedy scene right now.
Thanks so much for the ARC!

Mr. Wrong Number is an adorable retelling of You’ve Got Mail and I absolutely loved it. It is the story of Olivia, post break-up and a hot mess, moves in with her brother and his pompous but hunky best friend, Colin, when she mistakenly gets a text intended for someone else. Witty and flirty texting banter continues and you can do the math and figure out where this is going… This book had me giggling, smiling and swooning. I always love an enemy to lovers trope but this also had such snarky texting dialogue and laugh out loud moments and quirky characters galore. And Colin gave me all the Mr. Darcy vibes. All the love for this book - the quintessential romcom. Thank you partner, @berkleyromance for my gifted copy.

I really wanted to like this one, but I could not stand our main character, Olivia. She was so selfish and she literally burned down an entire apartment building burning love letters from an ex and seemed to feel like no guilt about it. I think some of it was very humorous, but I really couldn't jive with the main character.

Absolutely love this book! It is so fast paced and the flow in this was amazing. The chemistry the two main characters had was just sizzling!! The banter between them was just perfect to read and it should definitely be on your wish list if your looking for a good contemporary romance. The writing style in this book was also easy to understand and so fun to read.

3 stars!

I wanted to love this because I’m a Lynn Painter fan but I can’t say I did. It was a very cute story though. I do think it was just me

From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.

A really cute rom-com following Colin - who has his life together, and Olivia - a mess. This book was really cute and quite funny at times, it also has the brother's best friend trope which is one of my favourites.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.

I was so excited to read this book. It was one of my most anticipated romcoms of the year but it ended up being one of my most disappointing reads. A lot of this book just didn't end up working out for me. The writing style and characters dialogue was not for me. It felt like it was written by an older adult trying to sound young. Olivia was the absolute worst. It just felt like she was completely entitled and felt almost no remorse for burning down her apartment building. I've seen so many people give this 4 or 5 stars so I'm definitely in the minority with my opinions.

This was a sweet treat. I enjoyed the concept and the flow of the book was smooth.
The characters were fun. The heroine was a little quick to place the blame on the hero for something
that kind of annoyed me. It just seemed like a juvenile reaction in the moment. The hero took his lie to an
extra extent that I didn't think was necessary or cool. Other than that, I liked it. It was sweet and spicy - just like I like them!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the ARC.

This was such a fun and hilarious rom-com! I haven't read a romance book that had most, if not all, of my favorite tropes, wrapped up into one - so thank you, Lynn Painter! I also thought the steam was solid, and Olivia and Colin were great characters.

Thank you so much, Berkley Pub for a copy of Mr. Wrong Number in exchange for my review!

DNF @ 22%: I really wanted to like this one, but I could not stand our main character, Olivia. She was so selfish and she literally burned down an entire apartment building burning love letters from an ex and seemed to feel like no guilt about it??? And lied to and/or was just generally awful to everyone around her???? This was truly just not for me.

I should start this by saying I initially rated this book 4 stars for some reason, but it just didn't leave my mind for days after finishing it so I bumped it up to a five star read. I was just so consumed by this book!

I LOVE a "You've Got Mail" retelling and this one hit just right. With all the right tropes, Colin and Olivia were so easy to fall in love with. I absolutely adored Olivia. SHe's a complete trainwreck, but she's so endearing! As we see later through Colin's eyes, it's not that she's just clumsy. Rather, she's so overjoyed to be alive that she doesn't have time to be careful. And watching Colin discover that and love that was so freaking beautiful and precious. And COLIN our snark master. I reluctantly call him grumpy because I see him more as snide but I loved him! I think so many books nowadays are "been in love the entire time" so when that doesn't happen, it feels like a breath of fresh air. Also, these two had CHEMISTRY. Some of the best banter I had read in a really long time and that really added to the overall tension between them. They were definitely so hot together but I had to admit I was a little disappointed with the closed door, fade to black scenes because there was such an intense build up, but it was still great. The ENDING though. Wow. Like him admitting his love and then her running back to him!!! I had hearts in my eyes!!! I just feel like you watched them begin to fall for each other and because of that you're so invested in their relationship (it's dual pov, we won). I'm really amazed by this book and I can't wait to read more by this author!!!

This was a hilarious rom com that I thoroughly enjoyed. Some parts were a tiny bit ridiculous but overall it was a really fun read. I loved the main character even though she was pretty much the definition of a hot mess. Her ridiculous was somehow a bit endearing. I loved the enemies to lovers trope and overall it was a fantastic read.

For starters, Mr. Wrong Number is such a fun and light-hearted romcom which will undoubtedly lift anyone's mood after reading the first page. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed savoring this book far more than I ever expected to. I mean, romcom isn't really my cup of tea most of the time but guess what, I seriously can't get enough of the main characters here, Olivia and Colin, and their hilarious banters are to die for.

To briefly summarize this book, Olivia is the little sister of Colin's best friend, and she "met" a humorous guy named Mr. Wrong Number via a text message which later became a string of unforgettable and interesting emotional outlets for both of them. As a result, Miss Misdial and Mr. Wrong Number seemed to have a great time together until one of them figured out whom they'd been texting the whole time...and well, things started to get intriguing from then on.

What I loved most about Olivia and Colin's slow-burn romance was that the former always seemed to be a disaster in all occasions whereas the latter was perpetually composed. The love between the two was almost too impossible to be true, but you never knew when that sneaky spark would ignite even under the most incredulous circumstances. Besides, there were several moments I caught myself not only laughing out loud but giggling--I meant, REALLY GIGGLING like a little girl--nonstop throughout the book and I had to admit the entire reading experience was pretty pleasant.

What's more, Olivia's down-to-earth personality made me want to be friends with her. She wasn't living some picture perfect life filled with all sorts of success in her career, social life, and relationship status; instead, she was embracing all the imperfections and "C'est la vie" moments in life, just like most of us did. All of her character flaws made us feel less alone to some extent, so I truly appreciated a protagonist like her.

All in all, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mr. Wrong Number as it's the kind of story which will get rid of your reading slump and cheer you up effortlessly. Olivia and Colin's love story is a cute one that'll give your heart a flutter and bring a huge smile to your face. This book is also my first read from Lynn Painter, and I can guarantee you that it won't be the last.

Mr. Wrong Number, with its fantastic premise, had some cute and funny moments. The couple had good banter but there were far too many misunderstandings/miscommunication between them. Ultimately, that made it very hard to completely enjoy this story. The sex scenes also irritated me because they were neither close door nor were they open door. They were all super vague descriptions with barely any foreplay which was strange given how comfortable the two were talking about sex. I'll say that if you like rom-com movies, give this one a try!

Thank you to @berkleyromance and @netgalley for my review copy. Yup, that text thread in the picture is the first convo our two main characters have over text. Fun right? Ha.
.
-Best friends younger sister
-Fun txt banter
-Fun spirited heroine who is prone to accidents
-Forced Proximity
-Enemies to lovers (sort of)
.
This book was quick and fun read. Olivia moves in with her brother (and his roommate) after being cheated on by her ex and her building burning down that may or may not have been her fault. Turns out her brother lives the one friend that she’s always butted heads with. He unknowingly sends her text meant for someone else and they begin a fun txt banter without knowing who the other is. Colin eventually pieces together that Miss. Misdial is actually his temporary roommate but doesn’t tell her. Not good right?. There were a few times where I felt the connection was fully there and the heroine a tad bit immature. Overall, I still enjoyed it and thought it was quick fun read.

*looks up from ugly crying* uh, review to come soon

Okay, now that I've had time to collect myself... This book is my trope catnip. Enemies to lovers, mistaken identities, best friend's sibling, online (or, okay, text-based) romance. It definitely requires some suspension of disbelief, but is a fun and sometimes heart-wrenching ride. I laughed, I cried - a true rom-com experience!

Olivia is a walking disaster and I immediately fell in love with her and her seize the day attitude. Her chemistry with both Mr. Wrong Number and Colin was so fun - witty banter abounds! There is definitely plenty of heat and chemistry, with sparks flying both via text and in real life.

This was my first book by Lynn Painter, but it definitely won't be my last. I highly, HIGHLY recommend reading Mr. Wrong Number!

4.5/5⭐️

SOBS BECAUSE THIS WAS ACTUALLY THE CUTEST THING EVER. This is the first Lynn Painter book I’ve read and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed.

I mean BROTHERS BEST FRIEND? TEMPORARY ROOMIES? SECRET PEN PALS KINDA? SEMI ENEMIES TO LOVERS? AND SO MUCH MORE??? LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I love Olivia so so much. She’s so relatable and funny. I would definitely burn letters from my ex bc if he broke up with me. Her brother Jack. Ohmigod. I want to have a whole separate book about him and Vanessa. I feel like it would be so cute.

Let me tell ya about Colin. I NEVER KNEW A GUY NAMED COLIN COULD BE HOT. I MEAN A GUY IN A SUIT * CHEFS FUCKING KISS OHMYGOD*

Now there was a some things that knocked off a half star but yeah.

So sad that I finished this book. I adored it so much. If you’ve read this far, this is your sign to go read it.

A few nights ago, I was looking for a book to start before bed and thought, oh I'll check Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter off my list. Next thing I know, it's 1:30 AM and I've finished the whole thing and I was completely enamored by the journey. The heat, the heart, the laughs, the cries, the cringe - it was all there.

This one had me rolling in laughter from the very beginning. Olivia lives quite the life, and I was so invested in how she was going to relaunch herself after a seriously memorable exit from Chicago. As soon as we met Colin in Olivia's brother's kitchen, I was like, oh this boy is going to be delicious trouble.

I love a dual POV, and I think this one was really enhanced by having Colin's POV included. We learned a lot about his family and background and watching him have lovely realizations about the way that Olivia just embraced life? It was magical.

This one does contain some cringe-humor; the Office is one of my top 3 favorite TV shows, so I'm pretty immersed in Michael Scott's world on a daily basis, but I do know that type of humor isn't going to work for everyone. The steam level hit the spot for me- it wasn't over the top, but definitely satisfied my preference for a bit of heat in my romance.

I think this is my new favorite brother's best friend story, and I look forward to more laugh out loud adult rom-coms (I haven't read her YA yet, but it's going on my list!) from Lynn in the future!
